Totally disgusted by those rioting in Southport

Southport has experienced the most unbelievable tragedy.

Their emergency services had to respond to probably the most traumatic calls they’ve ever had, yet tonight they are being attacked by thugs?

The latest is that these people are destroying people’s homes to get bricks with which to throw at the police.

I am heartbroken, bewildered and disgusted. How dare they destroy the homes of that grieving town.

Yeah I know, not the thugs but their puppet masters. What’s it for?

It’s convenient that BBC is blaming it all on EDL, which hasn’t existed for a decade. I do not believe a zilch that these people on the streets are from EDL, and watching how the protest outside of Whitehall and Downing Street yesterday evolved, it looks like we are living in Soviet Union. The police arrested even those who were just standing there and not being aggressive or shouting! It’s nuts.

very quick to condemn the acts of Russia and Russian state media, but precisely the same thing happens here. Of course we don’t have state media, but it’s is interesting how BBC tries to withhold facts and publish other facts without verification( such as EDL) and how some stories are simply not being reported. For instance, the Merseyside police website shows the arrest at 6:50pm of a man with knife 300yards away from vigil (what a nutter!!) and he had balaclava with him. A couple of newspapers have published the story including the pictures of the arrest. the BBC has completely taken it out of the “timeline of riot events” as if not relevant. How’s it not relevant? Or are they pushing agenda?

The lack of movement from Starmer and colleagues also speaks volumes. Overall, the absences speak louder than anything - it looks like he is in hiding.

there’s now loads of petitions to address knife crime and calling for general election. Definitely signing those. Knife crime is out of order and I can’t believe nothing is being done about it.

we are definitely manipulated.

Wait, what? You're definitely signing a petition calling for a general election because Keir Starmer hasn't addressed knife crime in what, 4 weeks? Give the bloke a chance FFS.

Say what you like about the BBC, but I don't think they infiltrate information spaces in order to destabilise other countries and embolden the far right (or far left for that matter).

I guess the bad actors stirring up the riots know that prisons are at breaking point.

I just don’t understand white supremacy or why people are susceptible to it. The whole planet is facing economic uncertainty, climate change, billions of displaced people. It’s not a solution to any of it, to divide communities against one another. What is the actual end game?

It was apparently Russian disinfo which originally stated the murderer in Southport was Muslim and arrived as an “illegal” immigrant.

It has been widely reported that Farage is funded by Russia, in order to influence UK and US politics.

I would not be surprised if Russia is driving a lot of the divisive rhetoric to cause chaos and destabilise the UK. I would also not be surprised if they’re enabling the “trafficking gangs” and helping get these boats into the channel.

It would be a great way for them to attack the UK by dividing the population, causing societal breakdown and more. Brexit was part of this too as well as rhetoric about leaving the ECHR and WHO and Trump’s position on leaving NATO. Whatever they can do to isolate the UK and weaken our democracy.

And we’re falling for it. Horrific.

The point about ID is pertinent to businesses acting illegally and hiring undocumented people which means that wages are unregulated and untaxed and then in turn local planning authorities cannot plan for housing, health etc so the 'free for all' approach to running a country is not all that good for society in general. My French ID includes my address so that it would be VERY easy for a person in authority to identify whether I am roughly where I 'should' be and of course it is not so strict that I can easily explain I am on holiday which would end the discussion very quickly, assuming I am NOT hurling bricks or molatov coctails at the time of being asked.

There are ID checks and requirements on employers though. The people that employ others illegally do so without paperwork. So mandated ID makes no difference to that scenario.

It just allows the police to stop you whenever

Multiculturalism isn't working as well as it could?

I think this is what's known as "understatement".

Many of us live in multicultural areas which are working well. I posted earlier about our community - my daughter has friends from Muslim, Hindu, Sikh, Jewish communities (plus plenty of Christians and atheists). All the families get on well, are friends, help each other out, socialise. The key thing about our area is that it's fairly affluent compared to others.
When I see problems, they're often in very deprived, crime ridden areas. I do wonder how many tensions are more related to poverty than race. Kids at the bottom of the pile, with no hope for the future, joining gangs for status and respect.

Thanks, well hopefully not many of us are falling for it. That’s why I’m a bit torn between reporting posts and letting them stand and be challenged so everyone can see how they’re scripted from the same playbook.

I think they did fall for it in their millions, voting for Brexit & Reform for example.

I watched the kids in Southend footage the other evening it was supposed to be a beach party organised on tik tok. Some young lads started a fight with machetes, they were chasing each other around with these long knives. Police and other services were there standing by.

I thought how the heck do you stop a group of youths armed like this. They were moving so fast. They were jumping over seating running back and forth across the road dodging traffic.

Police have a stick, pepper spray and a taser, all needing a fairly stationery person.

Armed police. They soon stop running around with a machete when someone points an MP5 at them and issues a warning.

Rubber bullets should be permitted for those running around with a drawn weapon in public.

He’s been named

bombastix · 01/08/2024 12:43

Nearly 18. I hope he pleads guilty to save everyone the agony of a trial. I doubt it however

TwigletsAndRadishes · 01/08/2024 12:43

It's interesting that the only photo released of him is one where he looks no more than 12 years old.

Funny that I live in a northern town full of integration and its not working at all its bloody awful and every one I speak to seem to agree even if its not openly. The narrative now days is that you cannot speak openly as it does not fit the woke ideology pushed in most of the mainstream media and government.

There is a huge white elephant in the room and no ones allowed to talk about it. That is why people are becoming more and more militant and it is brewing.

TBF I suspect your one of those in a leafy green suburb not impacted by it, I see it all the time.

I'm only catching up with this thread so apologies if it's been asked/answered...can you explain why and how you think it's not working?

Not really. It’s probably one his parents have allowed to be used. A school photo? I don’t know, I haven’t looked because I don’t really care what he looks like, but it’s not unusual for photo opportunities of teenage boys to become rarer as they get older.

How can there be a picture released when there are reporting restrictions?

Where have you seen a picture?

Knife crime is something that needs to change. At the moment there is a real void in the law for young people because currently the penalty for carrying is too little. We had problems with guns a while back and mandatory sentences apples and the judiciary applied them. Currently the law compels the youth of the offender to be taken into account on knife possession which means the mandatory sentence does not get applied in cases where the danger is clear. Without reasonable excuse then you should be sent to prison for four years. There is much piss taking on the age issue and truthfully young men are more dangerous and not that vulnerable. Get it changed

On the Southend video they could hurdle over benches. They're young fit, agile, like watching gazelles.

His name has been released so every journalist and armchair detective will be trawling the internet for photos of him.

This is what Tasers are for. We don't need more armed police thanks.

The pic on twitter was accompanied by a post about how he was expelled from school, he’s in uniform so it’s probably a few years old

Just to add, I am from the generation where babies of unmarried mothers could and were dispatched to Australia or to a convent in Ireland if Catholic with a fair chance of being abused with either possibility. I never knew who my birth mother was, or even where she came from as all I do know is the town where I was born.

I'm so sorry. When my mother was a child in Ireland they walked past a large house in Ireland my mother asked what it was grannies answer, it's where bad girls go.

A friend who ran a laundry in the UK asked the rep where obsolete washing machines went the answer Magdalene. This rep bloody hated those places

Get over yourself they're not going to shoot kids. Go read about the Charles Menendez case. Police go through hell internally if they graze the ear of anyone

ErrolTheDragon · 01/08/2024 13:16

The latest bbc report says that photo was 'obtained', not that it was 'released', and explicitly says it's when he was 'much younger'.
It's not 'interesting', it's normal developing coverage.
