Totally disgusted by those rioting in Southport

Bex5490 · 30/07/2024 22:18

Southport has experienced the most unbelievable tragedy.

Their emergency services had to respond to probably the most traumatic calls they’ve ever had, yet tonight they are being attacked by thugs?

The latest is that these people are destroying people’s homes to get bricks with which to throw at the police.

I am heartbroken, bewildered and disgusted. How dare they destroy the homes of that grieving town.

How could "the man with the knife" have sparked the riot? Weren't the rioters already there getting tanked up and ready

Twistybranch · 01/08/2024 10:48

CassieMaddox · 01/08/2024 10:43

Boo hoo, someone got hit by a brick that their mates were chucking at police at a riot they attended. Cry me a river.

I think its called karma??

Perhaps but does highlight the hypocrisy of asking for a thread to be deleted because they believe it is stirring hatred….only to use it to express joy at the injuries of others

PandoraSox · 01/08/2024 10:32

The brick to the bollox was hilarious.

He is a bit old for all this to be fair. Nearly as decrepit as myself. Perhaps Tommy can treat him to a holiday in that Spanish villa to recuperate.

malificent7 · 01/08/2024 10:49

The young offender was born in Britain. He clearly had mental heath issues..as did many other perpetrators of knife crime.
I would also argue that many protesters have mh issues too.
The Tories cut mh provision.
As a non racist I am sad that multiculturalism isn't working as well as it could as so many people cannot tolerate it and I am asking myself some searching questions.

Lentilweaver · 01/08/2024 10:50

Being born in Britain isn't enough these days. You have to be from a white or semi-white culture.

Someone should have told Freddie Mercury he's from the wrong part of the world to be British.

Userjfxkgxkgxkgxkgx · 01/08/2024 10:54

The man with the knife was 32 year old Jordan Davies. His arrest has been widely reported.

Twistybranch · 01/08/2024 10:38

@PandoraSox

You were calling for this thread to be deleted not that long ago, now you see to be rejoicing that there are injuries?

Not rejoicing.

I would have much preferred no riots and no injuries, even to thugs.

But that thug was rioting and was the making of his own misfortune, injured by rocks his companions were chucking at the police. I have zero sympathy for him.

Because scumbags rip apart residential property to throw at mosques and try to set fire to them?

Deleted as you are right! I was getting my thugs confused!

Saucery · 01/08/2024 11:07

lol at the narrative that all those respectful men were just ambling home from the vigil, no doubt in peaceful contemplation when a bloke in a balaclava made them start destroying a community most aren’t even part of, setting fire to mosques, shops, police vans……the poor little lambs.

The point is that to these rioters he never would have been. Being born in Britain isn’t their criteria and never was.

These are white English nationalists. They aren’t going to persuaded out of it.

PandoraSox · 01/08/2024 11:11

@DecusCulinae why do you think we should have another general election? Genuinely curious to understand your reasoning.

IItisymoi · 01/08/2024 11:24

I used to take my daughter to a 'mother and baby' club in Southport every week, 20 years ago and of course I am horrified and actually rather surprised to see Southport being the focus here. I am finding this thread interesting because it highlights various aspects beyond the wild and rather foolish simplifications.
The UK does not have mandatort ID for EVERYONE and as such many are essentially undocumented and one IN the UK it is relatively easy to fly under the radar and not pay tax or contribute to society. tHIS is why immigration is an issue. I am now an immigrant myself, to France and literally this morning I have paid this trimester's income tax to the French government and try to integrate as far as possible and accept that I as an immigrant (and especially post Brexit) do not have the same rights as other Europeans (Thanks Brexiteers). In france the 'riot police' (CRS) carry arms and if you are involved in a serious incident there is a fair chance you will end up in hospital, which brings a certain respect to many disturbances. I went along to a protest last summer and was cheerfully greeted by the usual Gendarmes and it was almost surreal walking to the protest alonf with parents and children in pushchairs enjoying the day out. i acknowlege there are towns with very serious drugs related problems but this occurs across the world as indeed was the case in Roundhay Leeds around 40 years ago.

bombastix · 01/08/2024 11:27

An interesting thought about ID - but I don’t think these rioters would be much in carrying it, still less confirming who they are. Their attitude would be that’s for non whites, they get their freedom.

IItisymoi · 01/08/2024 11:29

Just to add, I am from the generation where babies of unmarried mothers could and were dispatched to Australia or to a convent in Ireland if Catholic with a fair chance of being abused with either possibility. I never knew who my birth mother was, or even where she came from as all I do know is the town where I was born.

The UK has Biometric Residence Permits. Until you get citizenship. Police can ask to see them, AFAIK?

IItisymoi · 01/08/2024 11:38

The point about ID is pertinent to businesses acting illegally and hiring undocumented people which means that wages are unregulated and untaxed and then in turn local planning authorities cannot plan for housing, health etc so the 'free for all' approach to running a country is not all that good for society in general. My French ID includes my address so that it would be VERY easy for a person in authority to identify whether I am roughly where I 'should' be and of course it is not so strict that I can easily explain I am on holiday which would end the discussion very quickly, assuming I am NOT hurling bricks or molatov coctails at the time of being asked.

justasking111 · 01/08/2024 11:41

I watched the kids in Southend footage the other evening it was supposed to be a beach party organised on tik tok. Some young lads started a fight with machetes, they were chasing each other around with these long knives. Police and other services were there standing by.

I thought how the heck do you stop a group of youths armed like this. They were moving so fast. They were jumping over seating running back and forth across the road dodging traffic.

Police have a stick, pepper spray and a taser, all needing a fairly stationery person.

bombastix · 01/08/2024 11:54

Knife crime is something that needs to change. At the moment there is a real void in the law for young people because currently the penalty for carrying is too little. We had problems with guns a while back and mandatory sentences apples and the judiciary applied them. Currently the law compels the youth of the offender to be taken into account on knife possession which means the mandatory sentence does not get applied in cases where the danger is clear. Without reasonable excuse then you should be sent to prison for four years. There is much piss taking on the age issue and truthfully young men are more dangerous and not that vulnerable. Get it changed

Multiculturalism isn't working as well as it could?

I think this is what's known as "understatement".

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 01/08/2024 12:01

If you can jail a JSO protester for 5 years for a thought crime, it should be possible to jail someone for rioting for 10 years, and for carrying a knife for 15 years.

Lampzade · 01/08/2024 12:03

Uricon2 · 01/08/2024 10:44

"there’s now loads of petitions to address knife crime and calling for general election. Definitely signing those."

So after 14 years of Tory rule, Labour are in power for 4 weeks and your answer to all social ills is.... a general election? Perhaps you think Reform would win this time, if so, think again.

Some people are so bloody stupid and obviously have an agenda.
Keir Starmer hasn’t even packed his Calvin Klein boxers for his move to Downing Street and idiots are calling for knife crime legislation
What the fuck have the Tories been doing for fourteen years?

Mothlike · 01/08/2024 12:05

I guess the bad actors stirring up the riots know that prisons are at breaking point.

I just don’t understand white supremacy or why people are susceptible to it. The whole planet is facing economic uncertainty, climate change, billions of displaced people. It’s not a solution to any of it, to divide communities against one another. What is the actual end game?

I seriously doubt whether these hard-of-thinking thugs are that analytical.
