Totally disgusted by those rioting in Southport

Bex5490 · 30/07/2024 22:18

Southport has experienced the most unbelievable tragedy.

Their emergency services had to respond to probably the most traumatic calls they’ve ever had, yet tonight they are being attacked by thugs?

The latest is that these people are destroying people’s homes to get bricks with which to throw at the police.

I am heartbroken, bewildered and disgusted. How dare they destroy the homes of that grieving town.

The facts are always the most important things (and actions, not words).

bookworm14 · 31/07/2024 21:36

Why the fuck are they protesting at Downing Street? The perpetrator was born in Britain and we still have no idea as to his motivation, so we can’t yet point the finger at radicalisation, failure of multiculturalism or whatever else they’ve decided is the problem. Why is it the current government’s fault that some (most likely Christian) Rwandans were able to immigrate to the UK decades ago and have kids? What point are the protesters making? It’s absolutely grotesque and so disrespectful to the grieving families to have their children used in this way.

They have t shirts with dead children’s faces on in London. So respectful

That's vile

sagalooshoe · 31/07/2024 21:48

A BBC journalist in Whitehall just said that a tourist was asking what the protest was about, and she said she found it impossible to answer.

No one knows, that's why.
There is no reason, that's why.
They just jumped on an incredibly tragic event and hoped to take British citizens out on a mass riot with them.

Instead we close our doors, close our curtains and hope to god the police are strong enough in numbers to hold them back.

They do not represent the British people. Not at all.

sunflowrsngunpowdr · 31/07/2024 21:50

If I was born in China it doesn't make me Chinese. If I was born in India it doesn't make me Indian. As it happens I was born in England and I'm not stupid enough to think I'm English.

Your memories have reminded me of some of my own.

My parents took us on many anti-apartheid marches in London in the 80's, 90's.
The marches would be lined with shouting, snarling, spitting National Front white English skinheads. They spat at us kids, screamed in our faces, they called us horrific names I can't even repeat. I was 8,10,12 years old. It happened on every march. It was terrifying to feel such venom and aggression as a child from adult men. However, it drove home exactly why we needed to be marching.

I still can't believe this violent, aggressive racism existed - I thought it had slowly died 20 years ago. Don't get me wrong - I know racism didn't die, but this 'in your face', screaming, violent, maniacal racism - is fucking terrifying.

It's back, it's dangerous and it's being exploited by English white supremacists trying to garner support from ordinary people who are exhausted by the poverty of the last 14 years.

Don't give them your support. It will unleash war in our neighbourhoods.

We must have been on the same marches!

I know the words they hurled at you. I heard them every day in the youth club. The hatred was so extreme, especially towards black or asian people. Constantly talking about how Nazis were right, how white people had superior blood. How ENGLISH people had superior blood. If I hadn't lived through it, and witnessed it, I wouldn't have known such ultra right wing views were so prevalent among this group of people. My parents had threats of violence all the time just trying to run a community centre that was wholly focussed on the local community. Because they weren't English... yet we were British! As I said, I cannot imagine what my black and asian peers went through. The national front/British movement love even permeated my school. You think your friends are your friends and then they tell you how you'll get deported...

As Angela Y Davis said: "It's not enough to be non-racist, we must be anti-racist."

Thats even worse..if it was their children I could understand if the families had asked for this again understand but fact they have said opposite and then for someone to make tee shirts...very disrespectful

sagalooshoe · 31/07/2024 21:56

"It's not enough to be non-racist, we must be anti-racist."

so true @TheDogIsInCharge

I wonder if it's time to resurrect the anti-racism marches

My husband was born in St Helen's, Merseyside. His dad is Indian, his mum is from Lancashire. What is he then? He spent the majority of his childhood in India - is he Indian? He's lived here from age 0 - 6 and then 18 to now? Is he allowed to be British, like his passport says he is?

Are my kids allowed to be British? I mean after all, according to National Front types, being half Scottish and a quarter English (if you can concede their mixed race dad is English) doesn't quite pass the racist sniff test. Where does everyone get sent back to?

I'm watching the images from London and there is a huge police presence there. Obviously I understand that it's the centre of government, etc., etc. but I can't help comparing it to the situation in Leeds when terrified people were pretty much left to the mercy of the rioters. I'd like to think that an elderly lady with a mob outside her house is as worthy of protection as the prime minister.

Also, if any fucker hurts a whisker on Larry the Cat's head or even just scares him off, I say we bring back hanging, drawing and quartering. No joke.

along with 39 human police officers, 3 police dogs were also injured yesterday by the thugs.
I'm with you, anything happens to Larry and I will personally hunt down the perpetrator. although given Larry's record of attacking foxes, I don't think he will take any aggression lying down

Csnt they just round up these EDF imbeciles and lock them up for the foreseeable?

Unfortunately there's no room in prisons.

Plenty of beds going spare in Rwanda. All paid for. There’d be a certain poetic justice, too.

The irony is that after all the work the government has done you can probably legally offshore a prison.

Arafina · 31/07/2024 23:33

I really don't understand this obsession from some people to know everything there is to know about the perpetrator, it's not as if he's on the run or anything and we need to look out for him, he's in custody for gods sake, what difference does it make? They're more invested in him than his victims and as for the drunk, drug addled idiots creating more havoc, I have no words

YANBU @Bex5490.

The people of Southport have been through enough without a bunch of EDL thugs turning up wrecking the place. They're disgusting.Angry

As are all their cheerleaders on the internet.

Who is in the edl? I thought it ended 10 year ago...

Soroe · 31/07/2024 23:40

Been kicking off in Manchester and Hartlepool tonight too.

Mothlike · 31/07/2024 23:43

It obviously didn't end 10 years ago, as much as we all hoped. No, they're still skulking around, being nasty far right, violent, racist cunts fueled by Putin.

Scumbags!

Crikeyalmighty · 31/07/2024 23:54

You know how all those huge Tory fans on here seemed to melt away post election- well there's a whole bunch of Reform nutters now posting on here, although trying to sound oh so sensible to start with-

More than 100 people have been arrested

MrsSkylerWhite · 01/08/2024 00:16

Where/why?

mommatoone · 01/08/2024 00:16

I found the actions of those vile yobs last night absolutely disgusting. They rioted on a street just five minutes away from where tragedy struck. Those residents on that street must have been absolutely petrified. Mindless idiots who have no clue about humanity, nor do they give a shit. Not sure if anyone saw the clip where Karma landed on one of the rioters? Someone threw a brick that hit him on his head, then another in his nether regions. Serves him right.

urbanbuddha · 01/08/2024 00:22

The Independent is reporting that the boy, 17, has been charged with the murder of the three girls.
