Totally disgusted by those rioting in Southport

Southport has experienced the most unbelievable tragedy.

Their emergency services had to respond to probably the most traumatic calls they’ve ever had, yet tonight they are being attacked by thugs?

The latest is that these people are destroying people’s homes to get bricks with which to throw at the police.

I am heartbroken, bewildered and disgusted. How dare they destroy the homes of that grieving town.

Because being right wing doesn’t mean you have to be violent or resort to mob rule.

Like being left wing doesn’t mean you have to do extreme things either , including violence.

These were just mindless thugs who wanted a fight..

These were thugs with an overtly right-wing agenda for their violence. Of course non violent right wingers exist (some merely fan the flames) - as do violent and non violent left wingers.

Just what my Muslim friends have said, perhaps it’s a local thing.

Your memories have reminded me of some of my own.

My parents took us on many anti-apartheid marches in London in the 80's, 90's.
The marches would be lined with shouting, snarling, spitting National Front white English skinheads. They spat at us kids, screamed in our faces, they called us horrific names I can't even repeat. I was 8,10,12 years old. It happened on every march. It was terrifying to feel such venom and aggression as a child from adult men. However, it drove home exactly why we needed to be marching.

I still can't believe this violent, aggressive racism existed - I thought it had slowly died 20 years ago. Don't get me wrong - I know racism didn't die, but this 'in your face', screaming, violent, maniacal racism - is fucking terrifying.

It's back, it's dangerous and it's being exploited by English white supremacists trying to garner support from ordinary people who are exhausted by the poverty of the last 14 years.

Don't give them your support. It will unleash war in our neighbourhoods.

I didn't generalise. This family left us all stunned by their latest complaint about dogs and cats being disgusting animals.

Their refusal to allow their children to mix with their school friends outside school imo makes them racist not us.

I'm watching the images from London and there is a huge police presence there. Obviously I understand that it's the centre of government, etc., etc. but I can't help comparing it to the situation in Leeds when terrified people were pretty much left to the mercy of the rioters. I'd like to think that an elderly lady with a mob outside her house is as worthy of protection as the prime minister.

Also, if any fucker hurts a whisker on Larry the Cat's head or even just scares him off, I say we bring back hanging, drawing and quartering. No joke.

Well, most of us with Asian neighbours don't recognise what you're saying as typical behaviour. They're probably just an odd family (like some white families).

I live on a mainly Muslim cul-de-sac, don’t have any pets and haven’t had any problems with my neighbours. This last week I have started to wonder if they think all white people hate them for living their peaceful lives. This is a direct result of the EDL, Reform and the EDL splinter groups. I’ve noticed Yaxley-Lennon has done a runner from his arrest for contempt of court and is posting hate speech videos from outside the UK and Ireland. Obviously he thinks he’s above the law and so do his followers. He needs to be arrested via Interpol and brought back to England to account for inciting racial hatred.
