Totally disgusted by those rioting in Southport

Bex5490 · 30/07/2024 22:18

Southport has experienced the most unbelievable tragedy.

Their emergency services had to respond to probably the most traumatic calls they’ve ever had, yet tonight they are being attacked by thugs?

The latest is that these people are destroying people’s homes to get bricks with which to throw at the police.

I am heartbroken, bewildered and disgusted. How dare they destroy the homes of that grieving town.

@Piggywaspushed yup. Impossible to get a gun, and we have special places for sports shooting. As for stabbing a they are incredibly rare - we can go whole year without a single one. If stabs happen, they are in drug gangs near borders, and there’s a lot of coverage of it. Generally biggest crime is drug possession! Second largest is theft. Then there are a few rapes happening too. But nothing ever targeted in girl, randomly, and no child grooming gangs like in the UK.

we’ve taken migrants when EU made us take them, but they left less than a month later to France 🤣 goes without saying that the public loved it.

Eh?

He appears to be an Asian thug. We can clearly see from the film footage that he isn't white. What we can't see however, is whether is he identifies as right wing, left wing, or anything else. He clearly went tooled up and ready for some bother though, whatever his politics.

It's not like people who go about tooled up as standard have left them at home since this happened.

stop policing what other women do with their bodies.
are you sure it was pro hamas propaganda and not simply pro Palestinian activism. a lot of people conflate the two. give us an example of her prohamas sentiment. and even if she is extremist, so the fuck what? what has that got to do with general Muslim population or brown people in this country? are you responsible for the nazis because you are European?

if you are reading the daily mail, that says a lot about you, frankly.

I didn’t confuse the two, it was very pro-Hamas, and the attacks in Jews were not condemned at all. And unfortunately it still continues in her feed. I can deal with pro-Palestine argument. I can’t however deal with pro-Hamas…

The EDL are just an offshoot of these thugs. This was in the 1970s. They are just violent racist idiots. This country is in a mess and immigrants are an easy target. The UK was also a mess in the 1970s.

There is a lack of housing, healthcare and jobs which pay enough to enable working people to have a good standard of living in the the UK at the moment but demonising immigrants is not going to solve the issue. It will just cause more social unrest on top of all the other problems.

These rioters are scum and I really feel for the people of Southport who have suffered such a terrible tragedy and now have to put up with this.

yep these people definitely look like they are respectfully grieving. apparently this is British culture (so the twats in this riot kept saying). as a Muslim mumsnetter who has had to performatively apologise every time a twat in the Muslim community does something, I would like to see the English/British mumsnetters (although I am one too, so not sure where this leaves me) apologise and distance themselves from this behaviour. I would also like a detailed discussion about how English culture leads to these kinds of behaviours. thanks.

that's fair enough. and of course her behaviour is abhorrent
but that doesn't mean it should be extrapolated to ALL Muslims or azerbaijanis

Whippetlovely · 31/07/2024 15:54

Of course these thugs are complete morons no excuse for assaulting the police. The BLM marches smashing up shops and injuring police was also vile. The recent Romanian rioters who burnt police vans. These rioters don’t care about any of the causes they pretend to just want to have fights and stir up trouble. Divide and conquer and we fall for it every time.

No it doesn’t. I agree!

I only posted this as a bit of perspective. There’s something to be said about the “radicalisation” ground in the UK. For some reason it’s easy to go this way here - doesn’t matter where you’re from. It’s also worrying how easy it is to report someone on the grounds of racism, although there may not have been racism, but rather a lot of fuming and anger coming out at government (and police, although they have got nothing to do with it, poor people).

after all, I blame the government for what we’ve been experiencing for the pat 3 days and 20 years.

pandasorous · 31/07/2024 15:47

@justasking111 aah yes, you met one weird mixed Asian family. we must all be weirdos then. I will give my neighbours a call and make sure I am not weirding them out with my brown skin and Asian food smells.

I didn't say that.

My SIL is Asian and the sweetest person. As are my nephew, niece and their children.

As is my Chinese SIL my niece and all their extended family.

It is a source of patriotism for us, we’ve voted many times to keep our borders more intact and have stringent checks on who comes in and out. I’m not Hungarian btw. They have it worse!

it’s a proud moment because we, ordinary citizens, feel in control. And our children play on the streets without supervision. Whereas France is struggling with riots, killings, jihadists, journalists’ murders l. It’s scary to live in the country like that and I have a concern that the UK is beginning to take after France in many ways. Strangely l, even after BREXIT! surely not to do with geography, but with failing government policies. We’re 3 days into stabbing and still not a single word about policies to tackle knife crime.

Yep. So would I

I'm sick and tired of the racism that exists in this country. As an Indian Malaysian I'm just supposed to smile, nod my head, be polite while white entitled males make derogatory remarks. Men are the problem!

You can absolutely report it to the police. https://www.report-it.org.uk/
Whether they will act I have no idea, but you should report it if she is genuinely sharing hate speech or pro terror materials.

I am absolutely not pro-Hamas. However, I can perfectly imagine being a Muslim, seeing what is done in Palestine and having some sense of affiliation with Hamas. I'm not saying it's right but seeing hundreds of Palestinian kids blown up can do funny things to you.

I've been to those areas. no such thing as no go areas. there are poverty ridden areas with high knife crime etc. where anybody and everybody is at risk late at night etc. that has nothing to do with race.
as long as people don't go around flashing expensive watches/jewellery or get involved with the gangs, they are fine.

I have family in one of those areas and they don't seem to have any problem getting out and about. What astonishing me as an outsider is the really high level of poverty. The level of education is shocking. We are talking about a basic lack of literacy from a lot of them not they don't have degrees or know Shakespeare but they cant really type out a legible sentence. The drug use is alarming, probably due to the poverty. Health is awful, so many of them die young, have stillbirths, have really life limiting illnesses.

We have 2 groups in the family one who stayed in the poverty ridden UK area and one who left to another country. So multiple family members UK and multiple family members somewhere else where an ancestor came from. The difference in the lives between the 2 is so pronounced. Degrees vs can't spell basic words. Careers vs long term unemployed/v low wage jobs. Healthy sport playing vs many illnesses. Healthy children vs multiple still births/premature births. The difference is so pronounced.

This is all to say the problem in their area isn't immigrants. It's appalling education, appalling healthcare, appalling quality of life and extreme poverty. They were failed from the very beginning, years and years of a lack of investment in the area and a lack of services. The government failed them and it's petty handy for the government that now every bodies fingers are pointing at immigrants rather than them.

Seeing hundreds of women and children stabbed in Israel also did things to me. I just think it is fairer to not take sides, but to condemn the violence on both sides. Otherwise, it’s a slippery slope.

In the interests of accuracy the family were Romany, not Romanian. The rioters were varied. One arrested was called something like Mark Mitchell.

An additional factor is the weather. It's very warm at the moment. Stuff like this notoriously happens more frequently in hot weather.

It's like a lads' picnic.
