Totally disgusted by those rioting in Southport

1000 replies

Bex5490 · 30/07/2024 22:18

Southport has experienced the most unbelievable tragedy.

Their emergency services had to respond to probably the most traumatic calls they’ve ever had, yet tonight they are being attacked by thugs?

The latest is that these people are destroying people’s homes to get bricks with which to throw at the police.

I am heartbroken, bewildered and disgusted. How dare they destroy the homes of that grieving town.

I reported one of those threads earlier because the OP started innocuously enough then started dripfeeding links from Britain First and implying the rioting was in response to an Asian man with a machete (the EDL types having only travelled to Southport to join the peaceful protest, naturally).
That thread is now gone but the same OP has started a new thread in News with a similar racial undercurrent.

I'm pretty sure that's why most of these threads are being deleted. There are a lot of posters trying to stir the pot tonight.

And was there an Asian man with a machete?

OneTC · 31/07/2024 13:08

If they were allowed to fight at the footy they'd all fuck off and do that.

Twistybranch · 31/07/2024 13:08

CassieMaddox · 31/07/2024 13:07

Oh, is that why trump wanted to build a bigly wall to keep out Mexicans? #sarcasm
What rubbish

What are you talking about?

Immigration and those crossing the border illegally are two different things.

Shakeoffyourchains · 31/07/2024 13:08

Scammersarescum · 31/07/2024 12:00

How?

We have a thing called freedom of speech.

I'm anti Farage and what he stands for, but this is a democracy and people support and vote for him.

Wanting to 'hold him to account' for his opinions is a very slippery somewhat fascist slope.

Understanding why people support him and the roots of their disconnect is key to solving the issue of the far right.

We do not have 'freedom of speech' that means you can say what you want, when you want, where you want. We have the right to freedom of expression, which carries duties and responsibilities and is subject to "formalities, conditions, restrictions or penalties as are prescribed by law and are necessary in a democratic society". A right that Farage et al are very keen to curtail by the way.

And we already know why people support them and what they think the root of their discontent is, but there comes a point in time where you need to stop pandering to the petulant child.

That's where we are now, these people want to blame everything wrong with their lives and society on migrants instead of accepting the truth, which is that their apathy, ignorance, refusal to engage and refusal to accept reality makes them the architects of their own misery.

Livelovebehappy · 31/07/2024 13:07

And was there an Asian man with a machete?

No! A man from Wigan, race not specified, was arrested and a flick knife confiscated.

ginasevern · 31/07/2024 13:09

ll09sm · 30/07/2024 22:26

Feeling heart broken or outraged won’t help.

We need to ask why. Because all of these events have a greater propensity to turn into a protest against mass migration. Irrespective of whether the issue is immigration related or not, this is what is in danger of happening.

You can shout racist and dismiss the people doing it. But it doesn’t make the problem go away. This is how far right movements take hold. Do not sweep this under the carpet by calling people names. Ask why, despite repeated warnings, the corrupt politicians in this country have failed and refused to do anything about the rapid change in people’s surroundings, neighbourhoods, cultural experiences and assimilation impact.

There is nothing racist about calling this out. Burying your head in the sand and namecalling is utter stupidity and makes the problem worse.

I agree. You can't always expect people to put up and shut up. I'm not trying to derail the thread but, as an analogy, it's rather like the trans issue. Women are expected to accept transwomen boxers and "women" still capable of rape and fathering children. There's no discussion, exploration or halfway meeting. Nothing. We must be silenced because otherwise we are transphobic, evil and stupid. The same applies to racism in many respects. I posted on a thread yesterday about housing shortages. I said that I lived on a council estate where there had always been immigrants and a good community vibe. Over the last 5 years however the influx of immigrants has vastly increased. For example, out of my block of 20 council flats 16 are now occupied by immigrants. Unless you live on a council estate or in a "deprived" area, you won't be noticing or feeling it. We haven't got the housing stock, the infrastructure or the money to sustain it. We really haven't. Even the existing "immigrants", many of whom were born here, are opposed to this mass influx and have held community meetings about it. This isn't racism, this is practicality.

We don’t have ‘rights’, thats an Americanism. We have civil liberties in this country

Perzival · 31/07/2024 13:10

I live near Rochdale. A conversation about multiculturalism needs to be had at a national level, in Parliament and on tv. People need to be allowed to have a sensible discussion rather than it being allowed to fester further. It isn't working here. How things move forward, I don't know but yes It feels like a powder keg in the town centre. It's awful.

orchiddottyback · 31/07/2024 13:10

😂😂😂 Sorry for not replying to any one quoting me, the responses are typical MN pitch fever. MN never disappoints the replies are always the same haha.

Lentilweaver · 31/07/2024 13:10

I should tell that to my American sister who is constantly being told to go back to Mexico. And lives in fear of the police or a racially motivated white shooter as in Buffalo or Texas. Only going to get worse with Trump. Because one brown person's crime is everyone's. However much you pledge allegiance. White killers are of course all mentally disturbed.

midgetastic · 31/07/2024 13:11

It seems somewhat unlikely - one of those rumours that once launched run wild as "no smoke without fire "

can lead to horrible consequences

There was something in Southend on sea that involved machetes

Lentilweaver · 31/07/2024 13:11

Well quote failed but I was replying to poster who claims the US has done great with integration.

masomenos · 31/07/2024 13:12

All the posters earnestly saying “he’s WELSH, BRITISH what do you mean by send him home?” aren’t getting the point: what these thugs are trying to say is he shouldn’t, actually cannot possibly be British if he’s got not-white skin. And you can extrapolate that to the islamophobes: you can’t possibly be British if you’re Muslim.

It’s straight out of the Trump playbook, the most recent overtly racist leader the West has seen. Farage is the same, and his acolytes are worse (because they’re too thick to understand the value to themselves (let alone anyone else) of compromise). When they say they’re anti-woke, what they mean is that they’re anti-modernisation, anti-globalisation, anti-consequences-of-your-own-actions: they want “their” countries to go back to the way they were, when white people were superior and in charge in these lands for the colour of their skin/being indigenous (oh the irony) and everyone else had fewer and lesser - or no - rights.

It’s about them feeling threatened in “their own” country. Every attack like this is grist to the mill. If they just got back to no non-white people, or non-white people accepting their second class status and only ever being on the receiving end and living in ghettos out of sight, everything would be fine for them. They feel they’re protecting their heritage, their culture, their very identity in their own country.

Mondaysocial · 31/07/2024 13:12

These creeps love violence; it is an excuse to indulge their racism

I suspect its the other way round: their racism is an excuse to indulge their violence.

User135644 · 31/07/2024 13:13

*Some people believe having many cultures in the UK can be enriching, others believe that multiculturalism can lead to disharmony.

This is a conversation that needs to be had.*

The problem is the numbers. People were generally okay with immigration in the tens of thousands a year. Hundreds of thousands a year (on a small island) mostly from countries with vastly different cultures/war torn countries (like Rwanda) is changing the fabric of the country in real time.

Considering the extent to which immigration dominates so much discussion in the media and the range of opinions offered elsewhere I do wonder what it is people feel they aren't allowed to say...

TL;DR

Let me guess any one who does not see the world through my woke glasses are thick. Am I right?

Fullyflavoured · 31/07/2024 13:14

It's not right that a mother of one of the murdered girls has to call for calm because thick racists have 'had enough' Because multiculturalism is not working and all the bullshit excuses the racists on MN and elsewhere on SM spout.

Stop forced teaming GC women concerned about a demonstrable, quantifiable safety threat with far right thuggish men who are more of a danger to themselves and others than any "cultural immigration" issues.

It's disgusting.

Some people don't deserve to be spoken to civilly. Especially Scottishlassie who has been banned from MN for being a racist cunt.

Well scammersarescum. I do indeed take it personally when she/he has my country in her username title and I stand by what I said.😑

I hadn't seen this. How very tragic. My heart goes out to her, the other parents, the Southport community and the police.

No one will ever convince me EDL thugs are there to have a conversation about immigration.

The large scale illegal crossings from South America has lead to such a situation. For the sake of all Americans living in the US, its needs stopped and routes to legal entry adopted.
