Totally disgusted by those rioting in Southport

Bex5490 · 30/07/2024 22:18

Southport has experienced the most unbelievable tragedy.

Their emergency services had to respond to probably the most traumatic calls they’ve ever had, yet tonight they are being attacked by thugs?

The latest is that these people are destroying people’s homes to get bricks with which to throw at the police.

I am heartbroken, bewildered and disgusted. How dare they destroy the homes of that grieving town.

@WorriedMama12

Not this specific attack, but these types of attacks.

These types of attacks? How many mass killings of children have there been in the UK in recent years?

The only ones I can remember have been committed by British nationals.

If you are going to try to use examples like this to make a point you have to make your facts stand up.

Lentilweaver · 31/07/2024 12:52

@thepeopleversuswork The last sentence of your post is probably many people consider relevant, sadly.

WorriedMama12 · 31/07/2024 12:49

Of course it would be. If Catholics were carrying out random attacks like this in our society today, and it was shown that it was a repeated problem, then yes, it should be spoken about and tackled. Why wouldn't it be reasonable?

Do you have evidence of the religion (if any) in which this attacker believed?

Twistybranch · 31/07/2024 12:53

Piggywaspushed · 31/07/2024 12:42

Are the EDL, pulling down people's front walls ,having a conversation?

When issues are shut down, ‘no debate’ and people wanting threads deleted because of people talking about an uncomfortable subject. Then what happens is you allow the extremists (EDL) to take over the conversation.

It’s all very well calling these men thugs etc but it is collectively all our fault for not allowing for reasoned discussion around the topic of immigration.

All around the world this topic is being discussed. It’s not unique to Europe or the UK.
In South Africa and Pakistan, there are huge debates right now about the influx of refugees and economic migrants. A democratic society must be able to debate the issues of the day

Wetherspoons · 31/07/2024 12:53

"Some people believe having many cultures in the UK can be enriching, others believe that multiculturalism can lead to disharmony.

This is a conversation that needs to be had."

Exactly- let's ban Welsh people, Welsh culture and anything else Welsh (especially Huw) from England

🗣INGERLAND, INGERLAND, INGERLANDDDDDDDD

The country is not like a powder keg.

What a load of rubbish.

It's just a handful of racist troublemakers that want everyone to think that.

My town is full of immigrants and refugees and all the better for it. The town pull together and take care of them - the children are thriving at school alongside ours, we love the languages and foods this has brought to our town. It has made us richer.

Funny that I live in a northern town full of integration and its not working at all its bloody awful and every one I speak to seem to agree even if its not openly. The narrative now days is that you cannot speak openly as it does not fit the woke ideology pushed in most of the mainstream media and government.

There is a huge white elephant in the room and no ones allowed to talk about it. That is why people are becoming more and more militant and it is brewing.

TBF I suspect your one of those in a leafy green suburb not impacted by it, I see it all the time.

OK, but as we still have absolutely no idea at this point what his motives were or what "ideology" he may or may not have subscribed to and how that may or may not intersect with any MH issue he may or may not have, that leaves the question of what exactly were the far Right rent a mob last night protesting (far from peacefully) about? It certainly wasn't Nazi occultism.

We all know why they were there and who the targets were and to suggest otherwise is disingenuous in the extreme.

No, but eventually I have no doubt there'll be a government enquiry so we will know more about it. Or it'll come out at the trial.

On the assumption that whatever ideology he may have been influenced by was bad, I absolutely support people protesting peacefully against it. In fact, if it was MGTOW as seems to be the case, I'll probably attend the protest myself.

LaeralSilverhand · 31/07/2024 12:51

What religion was the person who carried out the attack in Southport?

I don't know what religion they were, nor have I claimed to know what religion they were. Are you trying to make a point?

Lentilweaver · 31/07/2024 12:58

Every murdering scumbag like the Southport one makes life for law abiding people of colour harder. Because an individual's crime is everybody's crime.

DS, a six-foot tall well built brown man, says he doesnt want to move out of London or the big cities, because people view him with so much suspicion. I tell him: keep your head down.
I am reminded of all the senseless attacks on Sikhs after 9/11 and on East Asians after Covid.

@WorriedMama12

Go on then, I’ll bite. What is particularly dumb about my comment?

You have talked about “these types of attacks” and tried to link them to some idea of cultural differences without a shred of evidence to underpin your argument and you’re calling me dumb?

Scirocco · 31/07/2024 13:01

WorriedMama12 · 31/07/2024 12:57

If you don't have information about what religion he believes in (if any), then presumably you would condemn the Islamophobic violence being carried out? Because you came across as suggesting it's valid to be attacking or condemning Islam as a reaction.

JaneVtwaddle · 31/07/2024 13:02

@Twistybranch I completely agree and we also need to look at that demographic of edl types
Who are they, why are they like this what level of education, are there any sen needs, what support and provision do they have at school and in the community.

Mondaysocial · 31/07/2024 13:02

I completely agree OP. I cannot fathom how anyone can be such a self-obsessed absolute arse as to descend on a community that has had little girls massacred and then start a riot. Absolute bastards.

I totally disagree.

I come from a small northern town which has been over 30% Bangladeshi and Pakistani since 1974. The north has benefited hugely for half a century from a rich culture that was invited in,

I now live in a small southern coastal town in an area of high deprivation which has a large and direct influx of people arriving across the channel.
These people are desperate.

England is an amazing country that benefits from the richest and most diverse cultural heritage of probably anywhere in the world.

We need to embrace that.

Not vilify it.

Exactly, talking about immigration doesn’t mean you are against immigration.

The US has done far better than Europe with integration because they all see themselves under one flag, trying to reach the American dream. Small things like all school kids pledge allegiance to the flag etc. I’m not saying we should do that here, seems very un-British but we as a society can and should be doing more to help integrate those that settle here.

CassieMaddox · 31/07/2024 13:05

bombastix · 31/07/2024 12:34

It’s rubbish. The EDL are criminal. They showed that last night.

A discussion about immigration is totally separate. Why should the country have to tolerate violent criminals tearing up English towns so they feel heard?

These creeps love violence; it is an excuse to indulge their racism.

We are a civilized country and can have a discussion about immigration without enabling a bunch of racists. It’s just they would rather it wasn’t so.

Well said bomb 👏

Economic downturns are always bad for minorities as they become the scapegoats whether Irish or Polish people, people of colour, single mothers.

Oh, is that why trump wanted to build a bigly wall to keep out Mexicans? #sarcasm
