Totally disgusted by those rioting in Southport

Southport has experienced the most unbelievable tragedy.

Their emergency services had to respond to probably the most traumatic calls they’ve ever had, yet tonight they are being attacked by thugs?

The latest is that these people are destroying people’s homes to get bricks with which to throw at the police.

I am heartbroken, bewildered and disgusted. How dare they destroy the homes of that grieving town.

The EDL are disgusting. There is a story of some intending to burn down a shop where a quick witted woman living above claimed it was hers. They left it because she was white. The shop was not hers. But she could have been burned alive with her children because of their racism and cruelty.

DancelikeFredAstaire · 31/07/2024 11:51

How fucking low can these thugs go, using the memories of dead children as an excuse for what they did. They didn't care about those girls, their families or the distress their actions would cause. Each and everyone of them and those who fuelled the flames including the likes of Lee Anderson, Nigel Farage and the head fuckwit Stephen Yaxley-Lennon should all be held to account.

And you ought to be ashamed posting personal attacks on here which aren't allowed.

Disagree by all means but do so civilly.

Who is justifying it?

Your outrage doesn’t change the situation. Standing on he sidelines going ‘oh how bad’ doesn’t change why this is happening. It’s happening because people, irrespective of being right or wrong, good or bad, smart or stupid, have been told that they are racist for questioning how they feel about mass migration.

Shutting people up instead of listening to whatever they are saying, no matter he merits of the argument, is the stupidest thing that you can do. Strangely enough the progressive liberals are some of the stupidest people, never acknowledging the unintended consequences of their virtue signalling.

Thats what this is about.

What has mass immigration got to do with this?

Racist and bigoted language/rhetoric is not allowed on MN. These posts will be deleted.

However, this is a free society and people must be allowed to discuss current issues.

No debate- is a tactic used to shut down those with moderate views and only results in those with extremist views being heard.

People should be able to discuss issues with respect. Calling for a thread to be deleted is playing into the hands of extremism

Posting stuff that carefully stays just across the line from outright racism/prejudice whilst still carefully designed to resonate with those with a prejudiced/racist view is also playing into the hands of extremists.

start discussing why men commit such violent acts

This inquiry is long long long overdue.

And label it, track it just like we do with 'terrorism' & 'extremism'. It will very VERY quickly put it into perspective.

There's a reason why it's easy to name monstrous women. It's impossible to reel of the names of monstrous men.

And I say that as someone who quite likes men. I married one, made 3 & currently live with 3. I also live with 3 dogs & know full well whom I'm statistically more at risk from.

Some people don't deserve to be spoken to civilly. Especially Scottishlassie who has been banned from MN for being a racist cunt.

Fifty police officers were injured yesterday.
These police officers will be out of action
These racist thugs constantly wax lyrical about our depleted police force.…..
Now these idiots have ensured that the police force in the Southport area is further depleted.

Oddly enough I've not seen any of the posters from the Manchester Airport thread, who were so quick to express outrage over police being attacked, rush to condemn this attack on emergency services.

I wonder what's different this time?

How?

We have a thing called freedom of speech.

I'm anti Farage and what he stands for, but this is a democracy and people support and vote for him.

Wanting to 'hold him to account' for his opinions is a very slippery somewhat fascist slope.

Understanding why people support him and the roots of their disconnect is key to solving the issue of the far right.

Mothlike · 31/07/2024 12:00

I agree it’s important to listen to people and their concerns, it’s our best and only defence against the rise of populist authoritarian regimes worldwide.

Lemony3 · 31/07/2024 12:01

I’m presuming those behaving this way haven’t got children who are scared to go to clubs now because of the situation locally. The police are doing their job. Those children could now be witnessing violence in the streets. Sadly there has a lot to be said for mental health and the lack of support in this country when a 17 year old thinks he can set out to harm children with a knife. A few weeks ago an ex boyfriend thought he could harm his girlfriend and her family with a crossbow. The people that carry out these acts are missing out on some kind of support before in escalates scarily meaning others are at harm.

ll09sm · 30/07/2024 22:49

All of that irrelevant. Because it changes nothing. Pissed up thugs don’t occur in a vacuum. And these groups don’t stay localised for long.

As I say, either we can all go tut tut tut or acknowledge that there is a deeper cause.

Putin's troll farms?
The pathetic individuals who spread his misinformation because they, not the police, know what's going on?

The pissed up thugs who attacked a mosque because they wanted to?

To everyone who spread shite about the atrocity: You are responsible for further traumatising Southport. You are responsible for the attack on our emergency services. Give yourselves a slow hand clap.

Give it a rest! DHs grandad lived in the midst of a largely Muslim Community up north with a large family occupying several houses next to & around him. They had a lovely relationship & looked after him. When we bought the grumpy git frivolities like Easter eggs (true Yorkshireman), he'd save them & give them to the children. They'd exchange gifts at Christmas despite not celebrating it themselves. When he died, they were there to commiserate & be kind to us & he would have been delighted that they bought his house to knock through & allow them more space.

This was a grumpy, intolerant, old-fashioned, tight-fisted, DM-reading Yorkshireman. The difference between him & the morons throwing bricks at the police (and each other 😂) is that he knew, when it comes to it, people are people not homogeneous, faceless groups.

Csnt they just round up these EDF imbeciles and lock them up for the foreseeable?

Unfortunately there's no room in prisons.

All we really know for sure is that the perpetrator of the attacks in Southport is 17 and was born in Wales. It is thought that his parents were from Rwanda, a predominately Christian country where 2% of the population are Muslim. We know nothing about his motivations or his mental health so far.

So what "ideology" are you talking about?

Edited

Mass killers of strangers are frequently motivated by a dark ideology that they often pick up online - not always - but past mass killings (Columbine, Anders Breivik, 7/7, Manchester Aerna) have been motivated by diverse ideologies such as Naxi Occultism, facism, MGTOW or Islamist extremism.

Usually, there's a mental health factor too - sometimes schizophrenia or schizo-affective disorder. It's unclear as to what extent pre-existing mental illnesses make extreme ideologies more attractive, as they can offer a reassuring-seeming framework for viewing what can seem a confusing and frightening world world to a mentally ill individual. Sometimes, marinating in these evil ideologies can make the symptoms of the mental illness worse, which can then trigger a psychotic break, which can then trigger a horror like what we saw on Monday.

There's a whole plethora of really good research around the intersection of mental illness and extreme ideology in potentially influencing stochastic terrorism and mass killing - I will leave you to research and read at your choice.

I'm sure there will be plenty of arrests over the coming days - most of them were too stupid to cover their faces.
