AIBU to think that tonight's victory brings in a new dawn.
A world where there is better benefits system, a world where childcare isn't the constant headache it is now, a world where workers's rights will be respected and expanded,
a world where private schools are no longer charity's, a world where those who can afford it are taxed, a world where asylum seekers are not sent off on a plane but treated with respect, a world where everyone will be housed, a world with more medical staff, a world where SEN children don't have to beg for taxi;s to go to school, a world where diagnosis or those with ND conditions children and adult is made easier, a world where every child has free lunches not just in school but in the holidays to.
A kinder gentler world at long last.

This, 100%

Poppypops76 · 04/07/2024 23:34

Yes you are completely deluded. Sorry.

JennyTalworts · 04/07/2024 23:34

I think you're living in your own 'world'.

Getting far too carried away about a change of government.

Unless Keir Starmer has recruited Mary Poppins as his deputy?

HungryLittleCrocodile · 04/07/2024 23:34

I hope so! But it is a dream at the moment. Let's just pray for now. 🙏

Floatingandundecided · 04/07/2024 23:34

A world where the word women is banned

MulberryBushRoundabout · 04/07/2024 23:35

Yes sorry but I think this will stay a dream, for the next few years at least. I voted labour, I do think there will be improvements under labour, but we are in a very big hole and we just can’t afford the equipment to get out of it. So for now it’ll be fiddling round the edges with restructuring, until hopefully we reach a stronger economic position when more money can be spent.

HoorayHurrah · 04/07/2024 23:35

I don't think I am deluded. This is a landslide victory. it;s what we wanted and there is nothing to stop it.

The private schools which are charities will still be charities. You've misunderstood Labour's policy there. They are proposing to make private schools charge VAT on their fees. Opinions vary on what the effect of that will be.

Cheesecakelunch · 04/07/2024 23:36

It's the Labour Party not fucking Care Bears😅

The woman issue is my one concern but that seems to have been addressed in recent days.

And just where is the money coming from to pay for this Utopia?

Raspberrymoon49 · 04/07/2024 23:36

Unfortunately it’ll be a case of the usual excuse of “it’ll take years to come out of the mess we inherited from the last government” so nothing will change

I'm just wondering how old you are?

Have you lived through many general elections?

I voted Labour and I'll be very happy to see them win but I'm not living in cloud cuckoo land (sorry cuckoo 'world').

HoorayHurrah · 04/07/2024 23:39

ExitPursuedByABare · 04/07/2024 23:36

The labour party have obviously done their sums. They will tax big business, windfall taxes, property taxes and taxes on those who can afford it. there is plenty of money the Torys always had enough for their friends and projects like Hs2.

Also, I don't know about anyone else, but I'm quite rattled by the fact that Reform have done so well in those first two results. Far better than anybody except Labour. I hope the other parties are not going to ignore this. That's how we got into this mess. Explain why this country needs immigrants and what a valuable contribution they make to the UK. Talk it all out.

Ponoka7 · 04/07/2024 23:41

Labour did not promise what's in your opening post. They made it clear that they don't have a magic wand and it will take time to deliver change on housing etc. They are inheriting a mess. But there's opportunity for change and things will get better. It's important that they are in for two terms, but we all need to be realistic.

internationaldebates · 04/07/2024 23:43

We had so much of this 15 years ago and threw it away.

PurpleWhiteGreen123 · 04/07/2024 23:44

Nah. Starmer is a soft Tory. It's more of the same. I'm glad the last bunch of wankers are leaving, but the new bunch of wankers need to sort out a lot of shit before I'm impressed.

HoorayHurrah · 04/07/2024 23:45

I agree @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g People have been whipped up about asylum seekers when they are a good thing. we won;t last long without their contribution that is for sure. I've been told that many were waiting for a Labour victory because they didn't want to risk being flown to Africa if they came under a Tory government so that's another cause for celebration.
At least now they will be welcomed and looked after so that they can properly contribute as so many have done over centuries.

I have never voted conservative in my life and still think you are being overly optimistic

ExitPursuedByABare · 04/07/2024 23:48

@HoorayHurrah

And do you not see the fall out from taxing big business and the wealthy? It’s not a bottomless pot.

Champere · 04/07/2024 23:50

MumChp · 04/07/2024 23:50
