AIBU to think that tonight's victory brings in a new dawn.
A world where there is better benefits system, a world where childcare isn't the constant headache it is now, a world where workers's rights will be respected and expanded,
a world where private schools are no longer charity's, a world where those who can afford it are taxed, a world where asylum seekers are not sent off on a plane but treated with respect, a world where everyone will be housed, a world with more medical staff, a world where SEN children don't have to beg for taxi;s to go to school, a world where diagnosis or those with ND conditions children and adult is made easier, a world where every child has free lunches not just in school but in the holidays to.
A kinder gentler world at long last.

Yes this is a bit over the top but it will be so great to have a change from the useless lying Tories

We now have useless lying Labour

protectoroftherealm · 05/07/2024 09:40

As I read your post I had the theme tune to In the Night Garden running through my head that's how imaginary I find your 'world'.

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 05/07/2024 09:43

Aww bless, you're just too cute!

Cheesecakelunch · 04/07/2024 23:36

It's the Labour Party not fucking Care Bears😅

😂

pizzaHeart · 05/07/2024 09:56

JennyTalworts · 04/07/2024 23:34

I think you're living in your own 'world'.

Getting far too carried away about a change of government.

Unless Keir Starmer has recruited Mary Poppins as his deputy?

She was yesterday on Sky News - smiling woman with long hair and a big umbrella.Oh no, it was Angela Rayner.

On a serious note OP, a lot of these would be nice but we should be realistic in our expectations.

YoMamaOhOh · 05/07/2024 10:02

Sorry OP, but you’re deluded if you think things will be that amazing. You’re talking like it 1997 🤣

HoneyButterPopcorn · 05/07/2024 10:05

I don’t trust them. I really don’t. Loads of promises and who is going to pay for it all? Oh that’s us then.

I don’t trust them on women’s rights and I don’t trust them to help small business. I don’t trust them to improve schools. I don’t trust them to help us in our old age either.

I don’t trust politicians who can’t/refuse to explain what sex is and thinks men can a cervix. They have riled up a horrible sex/gender war when they could have calmed it down, they chose to insult, attack and lie.

I don’t bloody trust them.

ntmdino · 05/07/2024 10:12

OK, I say this as an autistic - the incoming government will have higher priority concerns than ND-specific services, and (for the time being) probably rightly so. The whole country's wrecked, and they basically have to build public services from the ground up with no money left.

Even worse, it's going to be years before we - the common grunts - feel the effects of anything they do to right the ship.

I suspect they'll do what they can to try to be more fair than the previous administration, and everybody will naturally benefit from the general improvements we all hope for, but there are going to be limits to how much they can focus on the needs of 1-2% of the population.

Time's what they need, and we need to be patient. That doesn't help anyone in the shit now, but...what else can be done?

IncompleteSenten · 05/07/2024 10:19

Oh how I wish you were right.
Sadly, you're wrong.
I bloody wish that was how it would go but let's be honest, there will never be massive change (well, unless we have a revolution) it will always be small changes by one party then changed right back by the other.

I'm glad the Tories are out but people have to be realistic here. There are no magic wands and nothing much is going to improve, certainly in the short term

The ND crisis is going to have a huge effect on the future economy if this (or any government) doesn’t start taking it seriously. It’s already hugely affecting the education system in every area, the let down ND kids struggling, the teachers burning out and leaving because they didn’t sign up to be support workers, the neurotypical children missing out on classroom support and going under the radar..

Looking forward to the future, without the right support in schools/work there are going to be even more ND adults who are not going to cope in the workplace or eventually burnout/have a breakdown. This leads to even more people taking longterm breaks from employment and more pressure on the benefits system. And I say this as a parent to autistic children, there is no point dealing with the symptoms of the issue - now is the time to understand and remodel the crux of it. It has to be a key issue for the support of those with additional needs and for the overall system of work efficiency.

Chester23 · 05/07/2024 10:59

By better benefits do you mean people who can work do work and working people have more help? People who work should get more help with childcare. The immigrants that are mentioned are illegal not people who come here legally.
You can't keep taxing businesses, they will close or move their business abroad. Same with rich people they will move their money. It's not as easy as tax the wealthy.

Lastly you do know labour only control our country and not the world?

I so agree. Within minutes of the Labour unicorn getting voted in at my constituency she was out planting money trees. The radiant light of goodness and plenty shone from her as she blessed the poor, the weak and the little children.

Truly a new dawn is shining its light on this beleaguered country.

SoupDragon · 05/07/2024 11:03

HoorayHurrah · 04/07/2024 23:39

The labour party have obviously done their sums. They will tax big business, windfall taxes, property taxes and taxes on those who can afford it. there is plenty of money the Torys always had enough for their friends and projects like Hs2.

Edited

Plus there is the magic money tree that every party seems to believe exists when they make their promises.

Why wasn't it this Utopia last time Labour were in power?

(I'm not anti Labour BTW, it's just that people seem to have forgotten a lot)

A world where the word women is banned

Exactly this.

Chester23 · 05/07/2024 11:06

Property taxes? So us normal working people who have Property should be taxed extra too?

I don't disagree with you on any specific point there - but if the problems you're talking about are going to be solved, they need to be solved properly, with proper funding, a complete plan and buy-in from top to bottom. And, more to the point, it needs every service it touches to be functioning properly; education, social care, benefits, the NHS etc. Unless those are fixed and functional, any effort to help ND folk will a best be a band-aid that lets far too many fall through the cracks to be remotely effective, and at worst a misguided failure that makes our lot worse rather than better.

Lest we forget, the entire medical model of autism (for example) used by the NHS is proven to be outdated and not fit for purpose, yet it persists because of institutional inertia; just re-educating the NHS workforce on that alone will take years, and they have vastly bigger issues right now. Hell, I have to get my melatonin prescription privately through the same doctor who isn't allowed to prescribe it on the NHS even though it's known to be safe and to solve the problem a huge number of autistic people have with sleep.

It's a case of prioritisation, and the notion that a rising tide lifts all ships. And more than a small amount of hope based on that.

I will be very clear. Starmer will get his hands on very little of my money. I will hide through legal measures every god dam penny. I’ve worked my bollocks off to build a successful business. I’m afraid you’re going to have to find another chump to pay for your ‘better benefits system’

brunettemic · 05/07/2024 13:09

Good luck with that. They have a big majority but in terms of the electorate not a strong position. They’ve said they don’t change income tax so it will be suicidal to do that, plus if you check the stats those who “can afford it” pay far more of the tax. If you want a fair tax system everyone should pay the same percentage.

HoorayHurrah · 05/07/2024 13:27

@FinalCeleryScheme

I couldnt' agree more-a new dawn is shining it's light on this beleaguered country.
Better education, health and those who need taxing taxed.. Also pleased that state pensions might be taxed. to many rich pensioners and to many children in poverty. Look forward to more equity in housing. for a start, everyone having a house over the next few years, and maybe a tax on underoccupied properties.

A willing workforce about to enter this country and instead of been hated, been welcomed and ready to contribute. many people in france were crying tears of joy this morning and that is according to that nasty channel GB news so even they had to admit it.
I know things happen immediately but how good is it to be living in a time when it is a possibility..the first thing I hope Labour does is give the vote to younger people because they are our future and they are the most thinking educated generation for a long time,. I am a teacher and every day I am amazed by there compassion there curiosity and there care for the less fortunate and the planet.
We have made a start.
