AIBU to think that tonight's victory brings in a new dawn.
A world where there is better benefits system, a world where childcare isn't the constant headache it is now, a world where workers's rights will be respected and expanded,
a world where private schools are no longer charity's, a world where those who can afford it are taxed, a world where asylum seekers are not sent off on a plane but treated with respect, a world where everyone will be housed, a world with more medical staff, a world where SEN children don't have to beg for taxi;s to go to school, a world where diagnosis or those with ND conditions children and adult is made easier, a world where every child has free lunches not just in school but in the holidays to.
A kinder gentler world at long last.

Yes i agree with you but i suppose I am happy that at least there is a real possibility that it could happen much more so than for the last 14 years'. That a government will act for the poor, the workers, the children, the migrants the vulnerable.

Why do you think we need more people coming over in boats?

ahagiraffe · 05/07/2024 14:19

HoorayHurrah · 05/07/2024 13:27

@FinalCeleryScheme

I couldnt' agree more-a new dawn is shining it's light on this beleaguered country.
Better education, health and those who need taxing taxed.. Also pleased that state pensions might be taxed. to many rich pensioners and to many children in poverty. Look forward to more equity in housing. for a start, everyone having a house over the next few years, and maybe a tax on underoccupied properties.

A willing workforce about to enter this country and instead of been hated, been welcomed and ready to contribute. many people in france were crying tears of joy this morning and that is according to that nasty channel GB news so even they had to admit it.
I know things happen immediately but how good is it to be living in a time when it is a possibility..the first thing I hope Labour does is give the vote to younger people because they are our future and they are the most thinking educated generation for a long time,. I am a teacher and every day I am amazed by there compassion there curiosity and there care for the less fortunate and the planet.
We have made a start.

I really hope this is satire, because if this is a genuine post from a geniune teacher, our country is screwed.

I would rather they are flown safely. Boats is what the desperate used under tory rule but hopefully now proper flights will be provided. I do not want people to risk there lives is boats.

@ahagiraffe a very rude and unneeded comment. It is because of teachers and medical staff that this country is not screwed.

Immigrants do many jobs here. Where I am the culture is diverse, and they really add to the economy.
I would rather people could come safely, and not on boats.

HoorayHurrah · 04/07/2024 23:39

The labour party have obviously done their sums. They will tax big business, windfall taxes, property taxes and taxes on those who can afford it. there is plenty of money the Torys always had enough for their friends and projects like Hs2.

Edited

HS2 was a Labour initiative

cardibach · 05/07/2024 14:24

AnneLovesGilbert · 04/07/2024 23:56

You want more people risking their lives paying money to human traffickers to cross the Channel in dangerous boats?

I don’t see the OP saying this. She says treat asylum seekers with respect and not break international law with the Rwanda nonsense (how much money wasted on something they knew would never happen?). Labour are clear on stopping boats. There are better ways to accept asylum seekers.

cardibach · 05/07/2024 14:25

A Labour idea. The Tories are the ones who mismanaged it. They’ve been in for 14years, not 14 months.

This.

@FinalCeleryScheme have you missed that TikTok polls show major Reform win? That their share of vote amongst youth was huge?

Labour believe that giving vote to 16-18yo will increase their electorate, it might be a huge mistake and bring Reform in.

(I'm also concerned by misuse of there and their, too many times for typos for teacher)

You really don’t write like a teacher would. I won’t specify why. I am not sure you are being genuine on this thread.

You sound utterly delusional OP. I feel bad for the people who voted Labour who genuinely believe what the party proposed will actually happen.

It's these same people who probably voted for Brexit as well and look how well that's turned out Confused

I don’t really care about the boats - certainly it’s nothing compared to the numbers that Italy and Greece have to process and accommodate - though lots of people seem to. But how is Labour clear about stopping the boats? All they’ve done is said they’d “smash” the gangs (doing what the Tories have been doing for years 🙄) and er…nothing else.

This is a very vacuous and uncertain government.

Oh come on, the majority of the migrants in the boats are coming in that way because they know that if there was a legal route they wouldn't be accepted. Many of them have been refused asylum in Europe.

I am in favour of immigration but it has to be controlled. We cannot let everyone who wants to come here in because it's just not viable.

Less of the “we “ please , I didn’t vote Labour.
None of this has happened yet in my 64 years and I’m not holding out much hope now.

This. I'm not part of your "we" either. I dont want labour. It worries me where they are getting all this money from.

HoorayHurrah · 05/07/2024 14:32

@nearlylovemyusername I was not aware that there had to be no mistakes. I am typing quickly and am slightly dyslexic. I am not an English teacher . .Anyway as people are now becoming personal calling me stupid I will leave you all to it..

The Tories have said they’d deal with the gangs without doing anything about it. I read recently most are biased in the U.K. As with many things, Labour will make a difference by actually doing something - a proper attention to looking for them and prosecuting for eg. They’ve also talked about creating safe routes, and maybe cooperating with France who offered Calais processing at one point. Nobody is getting ina boat for all their spare cash if they can be processed safely. This stuff is well known.

Will this co-operating with France mean they will want even more than the 50 odd million a year we currently give them to stop the small boat crossings? I hope not.
