AIBU to think that tonight's victory brings in a new dawn.
A world where there is better benefits system, a world where childcare isn't the constant headache it is now, a world where workers's rights will be respected and expanded,
a world where private schools are no longer charity's, a world where those who can afford it are taxed, a world where asylum seekers are not sent off on a plane but treated with respect, a world where everyone will be housed, a world with more medical staff, a world where SEN children don't have to beg for taxi;s to go to school, a world where diagnosis or those with ND conditions children and adult is made easier, a world where every child has free lunches not just in school but in the holidays to.
A kinder gentler world at long last.

You want more people risking their lives paying money to human traffickers to cross the Channel in dangerous boats?

I don't think I am deluded. This is a landslide victory. it;s what we wanted and there is nothing to stop it.

You are deluded to think it’s going to be some kind of utopia. Unless your idea of a better world is one where a woman can have a penis?

Londonrach1 · 04/07/2024 23:59

Sorry op you going to be disappointed....all parties only care about themselves and not the people...

One of the defining features of delusion is lack of insight.

I voted Labour but really let’s get realistic. Hopefully things might get a bit better but they are not going to be able to usher in some kinds of utopia.

GCAcademic · 05/07/2024 00:11

It’s only a “landslide victory “ because of the first past the post system. In the seats that have been called thus far, the Labour vote has remained pretty stagnant. The actual “victory” is for Reform. It all feels quite reminiscent of the Brexit referendum vote. I’m glad the Tories have gone, but I can see this being a one-term Labour government.

GruntledGoblin · 05/07/2024 00:13

HoorayHurrah · 04/07/2024 23:36

The woman issue is my one concern but that seems to have been addressed in recent days.

What on earth makes you think that? I remember the huge hope many of us had when KS took leadership of the Labour party and he did a Q and A here on Mumsnet. It was the most excruciating, weaselly cowardly performance. With the slightest crumb of integrity or decency I'd have voted for them in s heartbeat. But look it up. He disgusts me and the Labour party disgusts me. I spoilt my ballot.

peanutbuttertoasty · 05/07/2024 00:16

Absolutely fucking delusional. And with a vote 😩

AnOpinionInTheHand · 05/07/2024 00:20

how many money trees do you think Labour have exactly?

theyve been worse than useless as an opposition party in recent years - what makes you think they’ll be any better than the tories?

IceLolliesForStickyFingers · 05/07/2024 00:24

It won't happen. I'm glad that Labour will win with a majority but the fact that reform is doing so well is very worrying. Labour will see this and they will go more right and more populist. They don't have to with rhe majority they are expected to get but I don't think keir starmer has the moral strength to trade off a bit of popularity for what is right.

I just keep wishing it was 2010 and this was the result back then. Or 2015. Or even 2019.

EpicGem · 05/07/2024 00:29

Labour stood on a manifesto very similar to the 2010 Tory austerity manifesto. As a disabled person, I can guarantee that, under a Kier Starmer Labour government, I will still be subjected to dehumanising PIP "assessments". There is nothing in the manifesto about ending them.
Don't get me wrong, I'm glad the Tories are highly likely to be booted out severely, but I'm old enough to know that very little is going to change under a centre-right at best government.

I bet nearly all politicians already have..... the big thing that people forget is, they are all utter scumbags that are self serving. Peasants like us are not for their concern.

iamtheblcksheep · 05/07/2024 00:42

I will be very clear. Starmer will get his hands on very little of my money. I will hide through legal measures every god dam penny. I’ve worked my bollocks off to build a successful business. I’m afraid you’re going to have to find another chump to pay for your ‘better benefits system’

Yes this is a bit over the top but it will be so great to have a change from the useless lying Tories

Dramatic · 05/07/2024 00:58

I think you are being overly optimistic, things will get better but it won't be like the Blair years unfortunately.

Raindropsoncanvas · 05/07/2024 01:46

We do not grow money trees. Are you included in “those who can afford it are taxed” or do you think others will foot the bill for all the things you list? You’re living in a dream world, OP.
