I’m 5 ft 3. Hair as long as models so back is typically covered. Worn with flat nude sandals so very casual.

It's a nice dress but would look rather over-dressed/attention seeking on the school run, unless you're heading straight out to an event.

Disagree, it's a very plain daytime dress, not glam at all.

UnicornMamma · 04/07/2024 18:56

Wear what you want. There's no dress code for parents. If someone said anything I'd shrug it off

What kind of 'event' would you wear a plain cotton or linen backless sundress to, though? I think it's a perfectly nice dress, though I couldn't wear it because I need a bra, but very much a daytime dress for hot weather, too casual/uncovered for the workplace. Unless by 'event' you mean lunch with friends?

LlynTegid · 04/07/2024 19:04

Not an issue at all in my opinion.

Whereas taking your child to or from school in pyjamas is, suggests that you have got up without allowing enough time, and perhaps you are over the legal drink drive limit. Or take illegal drugs.

Getonwitit · 04/07/2024 19:13

Ok Pet, i will bite and say your choice of dress for such an event is nice. Does that make you feel better?

FreddieMercurysCat · 04/07/2024 20:15

It’s absolutely fine. We have a couple of gym mums that turn up in teeny tiny bikinis with an open over shirt & flip flops and no one bats an eyelid.

Clueless2024 · 04/07/2024 20:16

I'd say it's a perfect summer outfit. Y'all are crazy if you see an issue here.

WirelessWendy · 04/07/2024 20:35

I saw a woman wearing a similar dress to an event on a hot day last week. It looked lovely when she stood up straight, but I don’t know if she realised quite how much she revealed when she bent over.

Regardless of that, it is still not your partner’s job to police your clothing. Only you can decide if his tone was “you are not wearing THAT!” or if it was “perhaps you’d like to check this from the rear view before you go out in it because when you bend over it looks like you are smuggling a hedgehog to school.”

VerbenaGirl · 05/07/2024 08:39

Totally appropriate.

Theweepywillow · 05/07/2024 08:41

Blimey, who dresses for the school run. Not sure if it’s you or your husband being weird, seems both, as he made the comment and you apparently need to ask mumsnet instead of laughing at him and knowing rhe answer.

Wayda · 05/07/2024 09:07

why are people assuming I dressed up? I wore this dress all day on a hot day.

Gilbertwasawuss · 05/07/2024 09:14

It is absolutely fine and perfectly appropriate for the weather. Your DH is a bit weird.

It's not a bodycon mini dress and heels lol

Hang on, what if she was wearing it anyway in hot weather and then had to do the school run? Far more likely than dressing for it specifically.

Sorry didn’t include fact I said I wore similar yesterday (back less low). Not sure why people think people dress up for school run?

You'd get a few funny looks if you wore it to a catholic school but other schools should be ok.

We had children at a convent school and Christian Brothers and nobody would give you any looks for picking up children wearing that. It looks like a stylish summer dress and if you feel good in it then it's fine.

Your dress is lovely.

Greydays10 · 05/07/2024 10:40

Of course it's OK.
What a strange, creepy, rude comment from your husband.
Tell him to keep his opinions to himself.
Your friends are entitled to their view, but that is a lovely sun dress.
Hope you are ok.

Elly46 · 05/07/2024 11:30

No worries to me on this. Maybe not with heels at all but you’ve already said you wore nude flats. Nice dress

Yes it looks fine. Not sure why your height has anything to do with it.

Why? Has there been a issue or a complaint?

I couldnt care less what parents wear at pick ups!

Comment from dh. Showed friends said dress. And someone said they would have thrown on a jacket.

Didn’t realise this was Saudi Arabia

So your H took a pic of you in that dress and showed it to his friends to ask their opinion on whether it was suitable for picking up your children in.

How odd. Is he normally this invested in what you are wearing and to then discuss your outfit with his friends? My H i guarantee you, my H wouldnt even be able to say what i am even wearing today!

I assume she included height because models are usually around 5ft7 ( minimum) so on a 5ft 3 person as she is it would be much longer so can’t be deemed inappropriate because of length.

The dress is lovely and actually quite plain. I wish I could have my back out like that 😂 so god knows why her husband thinks it’s inappropriate.

Soukmyfalafel · 05/07/2024 12:13

I've seen worse where I am. Much more on show. One person had a playboy pin up on a tshirt. Couldn't see anything, but they were naked.

What's Saudi got to do with it?

NecessaryNC24 · 05/07/2024 12:51

Well you have to be covered head to toe to leave the house as a woman in SA.

Hence the comparison.
