She says she can't have find my iPhone turned on as she deleted it for storage, is that possible?

OP posts:
malachitegreen · 25/06/2024 07:52

she can reinstall it

BakedTattie · 25/06/2024 07:53

Yes you can remove the app. But can also reinstall it

F0GGYCAT · 25/06/2024 07:53

Okay but if she has no room?

OP posts:
Mammma91 · 25/06/2024 07:53

Nope. It’s an app that comes with the phone, one you don’t download. She can have location settings on for one contact and it sends a link to the phone you click on and can track the phones whereabouts - I done this with DH, as we have 2 children and one with autism who had a history of taking my phone and hiding it. It was just to ensure it’s still in the house 😅

F0GGYCAT · 25/06/2024 07:53

Is there another way to show location?

OP posts:
BitOutOfPractice · 25/06/2024 07:53

How old is she op?

malachitegreen · 25/06/2024 07:54

F0GGYCAT · 25/06/2024 07:53

Okay but if she has no room?

then she will have to delete other things first, videos, if she has them, as they take up a lot of space- also, how many photos does she have on her phone?

Sorry you can remove it from home screen so it does look deleted but you just put it in the App Store and reinstall it. (DC also deleted apps, I have a password now 🤣)

DailyMailHater · 25/06/2024 07:55

Yes she can delete it to free up storage space.
it can be reinstalled - but I guess that would mean her removing something else

F0GGYCAT · 25/06/2024 07:55

15 years old. Never had it on before but she's going jogging at 6 am and I want it on but she says no

OP posts:
Smithhy · 25/06/2024 07:55

’Find my’ takes up about 50mb. Each picture takes around 2mb so it’s the equivalent of 25 pictures.

She is bullshitting you.

FittyForForty · 25/06/2024 07:56

Get her a USB to put all her photo/videos on, then she will have loads of room.

Goodadvice1980 · 25/06/2024 07:56

What is her reason for refusing? Is she genuinely going jogging?

iamtheblcksheep · 25/06/2024 07:56

No location no leaving the house except for school. It’s a simple trade off

MrsElsa · 25/06/2024 07:56

No way has all the space been used. She's having you on.

dothehokeycokey · 25/06/2024 07:59

She either puts it on her phone or the phone isn't available to her op.

Who pays the bill?

My dc have live 360 but I never even think about looking at it however if mine were going out early doors alone I probably would

User8746422 · 25/06/2024 08:01

She's lying. Find my iPhone is part of the OS (operating system) so it's impossible to remove. It's like trying to delete your phone book or camera. The memory space for OS is always reserved inside the phone. You can delete the icon from the home screen but the app is still somewhere in the phone.

HappiestSleeping · 25/06/2024 08:01

@F0GGYCAT if it's her phone, that she paid for, with her own money, and also pays for the contract / PAYG with her own money, then it is up to her.

If, on the other hand, you bought it and pay for the contract, then you can have input into what it gets used for.

The other option is for her to have a Google account which can be set up to share her location.

Be advised though, it is possible to spoof the GPS location so it shows her as being somewhere other than where she is, if she so chose.

Zanatdy · 25/06/2024 08:04

Tell her to delete something else or pay a small amount for extra storage. I think I pay 89p or something a month for more. If you want her to have it on, she deletes something or doesn’t go jogging

With that logic a teen could buy a PS5 and spend 12hrs a day on it and parent can’t do anything? Sorry but even if teen did buy it then she follows rules or she doesn’t have the phone. Regardless who paid for it.

abouttoturn50 · 25/06/2024 08:06

She could could easily share her location with you for a set amount of time via iMessage.

JustRollWithIt · 25/06/2024 08:07

My kids turned off location a couple of times. I explained to them it's not so I can track them, it's simply if the lost their phone for example there would be no way of tracking it and then they wouldn't have a phone. That was enough for them to agree to turn it back on!

GrazingSheep · 25/06/2024 08:07

Or she can use location sharing on WhatsApp

Sorry that's bull.

She's 15. I don't care if it's her money of not, she's a child and I would restrict anything I felt necessary, regardless of who made the initial or ongoing purchases.

Is she OK to vape if she buys it herself? 🙄

How does that work please?
