To ask MNHQ for a Private Schools board?

frankentall · 06/06/2024 16:11

So all the 2 million threads started each day about the moral rights to private education, the immense sacrifices and the sheer unfairness of everything visited upon the poor lambs who bravely go without food, shelter and transport because they believe in sending their kids to fee-paying school can be moved there and away from everywhere else? Please?

Personally, I would like a private schools board so that I can ask questions that are private school related and they are then posted to the right place.
But in your case, why can’t you just scroll past if you don’t want to read? There are plenty of threads that I am not interested in reading so scrolling past is what I do. Same for everyone else I imagine.

That’s often what people post about in the Primary and Secondary boards. I don’t think you need another board for that.

SoupDragon · 06/06/2024 16:46

I'd like a board where all the tedious posts bitching about private schools could be shoved.

sprigatito · 06/06/2024 16:48

We could have a general "whining about having to pay tax" board?

SpringKitten · 06/06/2024 16:50

nah we don’t need a new board - once the election is won by Labour and VAT is introduced, the endless complaints should dwindle because either (a) the parents will all have withdrawn their kids and put them in state school and all the private schools will have gone broke, or (b) all the parents will be working second jobs to afford the colossal rise in fees and won’t have time to post on mumsnet 😋

I admit I rather enjoy the threads though…. Am I the only one?

Isittimeformynapyet · 06/06/2024 16:50

I think this is a capital idea OP. What-what! 🧐

Ha ha! Very good.

@sprigatito that’s a good idea! We can all rant about inheritance tax, double council tax on second homes, and debate the merits of moving to Dubai to get away from it all.

And "net contributors"

Only about 5% of children in the UK attend private school but every day there are 4 or 5 threads on the front page of AIBU complaining about the prospect of having to pay VAT on school fees. Basically the same thread but with slightly re-worked titles and posters making the same points over and over. I could be wrong but I think the OP is suggesting that it's disproportionate and possibly getting a bit tedious.

I think it’s ok when someone else pays

Mnetcurious · 06/06/2024 17:37

Yanbu. I was interested to begin with but it feels like there are several new private school posts on AIBU every single day at the moment which are just churning over the same points again and again- unnecessary!

I think the private school tax threads and all the threads about how labour are amazing now going to win should all go on the GE board

FOJN · 06/06/2024 17:38

Hide thread or ignoring threads with titles that annoy you is also an option.

I'm not a fan of shunting subjects off into newly created topics just because the topic irritates some people. Adults who have options to bypass something don't need additional measures to avoid it.

GreenWheat · 06/06/2024 17:38

At the moment I'm viewing it as "seasonal tediousness", ie something that will go away quite soon so probably no need for a short lived board for it. It's like summer threads moaning about bbqs, Halloween posts in October and fireworks in November. Yawnsome but scrollable.

Allfur · 06/06/2024 17:39

It's amazing giving the percentage of privately educated, just how many threads there are

LordSnot · 06/06/2024 17:40

No leave them here to get more traffic. It's so amusing watching the panicking wee lambs!

FluentRubyDog · 06/06/2024 17:41

You do realise you're not obliged by the laws of mumsnet to open those threads and you will most definitely not be visited by the 10 plagues of Egypt if you - gasp - read them?

Just live and let live, woman...

Quite. It's been a long time since I've seen MN collectively shit the bed over a single issue like this.
