To ask MNHQ for a Private Schools board?

frankentall · 06/06/2024 16:11

So all the 2 million threads started each day about the moral rights to private education, the immense sacrifices and the sheer unfairness of everything visited upon the poor lambs who bravely go without food, shelter and transport because they believe in sending their kids to fee-paying school can be moved there and away from everywhere else? Please?

OP posts:
EveryKneeShallBow · 06/06/2024 18:22

I don’t read them. Too busy making sacrifices because I actually love my children.

LongSinceGotUpAndGone · 06/06/2024 18:24

There is already a 'boarding school' topic so it wouldn't be a huge leap to add private schools - or perhaps 'fee paying schools' would be a more general term to include public schools.

CelesteCunningham · 06/06/2024 18:25

sprigatito · 06/06/2024 16:48

We could have a general "whining about having to pay tax" board?

I think that's the General Election board.

FilthyforFirth · 06/06/2024 18:26

God yes. So sick of them.

S0livagant · 06/06/2024 18:28

It would be good to separate out private from primary and secondary. Only some private schools have a primary/secondary split at age 11 so it doesn't fit. It's also confusing to have 11 plus questions where the OP doesn't say they don't mean state.

ResisterRex · 06/06/2024 18:28

SpringKitten · 06/06/2024 16:50

nah we don’t need a new board - once the election is won by Labour and VAT is introduced, the endless complaints should dwindle because either (a) the parents will all have withdrawn their kids and put them in state school and all the private schools will have gone broke, or (b) all the parents will be working second jobs to afford the colossal rise in fees and won’t have time to post on mumsnet 😋

I admit I rather enjoy the threads though…. Am I the only one?

This is nasty. Think what you like of parents but children will be disrupted. I wouldn't wish unpleasant things on a child.

nightmaries · 06/06/2024 18:28

Yes. I myself am eating one spoon of thin gruel tonight with an onion from yesterdays bin to send Artemis and Theodorus Regus to private school.

THAT is how much I don’t spend my money on the latest Gucci or sun holiday.

LongSinceGotUpAndGone · 06/06/2024 18:29

SpringKitten · 06/06/2024 16:52

@sprigatito that’s a good idea! We can all rant about inheritance tax, double council tax on second homes, and debate the merits of moving to Dubai to get away from it all.

Let's ask for a series of boards - Royal Mumsnetters, Upper Class Mnetters, Upper Middle Class Mumsnetters, Middle Middle Class Mumsnetters, Lower Middle Class Mumsnetters, Working Class Mumsnetters, Nouveau Riche Mumsnetters, Mumsnetters without a pot to piss in ....

Have you thought about taking in ironing?

I take in ironing
sit in the dark all winter
Family cloths instead of toilet paper (sorry it’s dinner time I know)
Gruel
Got the dog put down
and a tiny, ickle violin is now all I’ve got left. 🎻

TheYearOfSmallThings · 06/06/2024 18:31

YANBU. And based on those threads, I no longer feel bad that I can't afford private school fees.

LlynTegid · 06/06/2024 18:33

Regardless of views on private education, there are a lot of threads and so it would make sense.

BobnLen · 06/06/2024 18:34

There is already a board called general election and umpteen education boards

bridgetreilly · 06/06/2024 18:34

Only if people who post there are also banned from posting in AIBU. Otherwise we’ll all still get bombarded with them.

ResisterRex · 06/06/2024 18:40

Wow. “Unpleasant things” as in? Going to the local state school? Or are all these children younique with speshul requirements who will all be devastated if indeed all these children have to go to the comp?

See. More nastiness. Having to move school is disruptive and if you have to do it mid-GCSE then well to be honest it would be worse than unpleasant. It would potentially mean you have to resit a year if you've not been taught the same syllabus.

As for "speshul" and "younique", what a shitty thing to say about SEN children.

These are children whose lives might be disrupted for political points. Yes I do think that is unpleasant. Children have already been very negatively affected by remote learning, and now even more disruption.

I think it is fine to have some disagreement with other adults but policies that target children like this - overnight - are awful.

Labour should be honest. Do they want to abolish private school? Fine. Do it. I'd vote for that IF it were done responsibly planned and over a long period. I think Finland did this. So it could work.

LordSnot · 06/06/2024 18:42

As for "speshul" and "younique", what a shitty thing to say about SEN children.

Oh, behave.

S0livagant · 06/06/2024 18:55

Having to move school is disruptive and if you have to do it mid-GCSE then well to be honest it would be worse than unpleasant.

If you can't afford to keep a child in private school for one year (possibly two if your local secondary does three year GCSEs) without a VAT exemption, then you couldn't really afford it in the first place.

There's been talk about it for a while so time to look at your finances.

saraclara · 06/06/2024 18:59

Whenever I've been over to the education board, it's all been people asking about private/public schools. So I think that's pretty much the private school board.

ResisterRex · 06/06/2024 18:59

But as for the kids, fuck em? Right?

gamerchick · 06/06/2024 19:05

OneHandInPocket · 06/06/2024 16:42

Personally, I would like a private schools board so that I can ask questions that are private school related and they are then posted to the right place.
But in your case, why can’t you just scroll past if you don’t want to read? There are plenty of threads that I am not interested in reading so scrolling past is what I do. Same for everyone else I imagine.

Dunno, frothing from tax evaders has a certain entertainment.

Willyoujustbequiet · 06/06/2024 19:10

Allfur · 06/06/2024 17:39

It's amazing giving the percentage of privately educated, just how many threads there are

Indeed

It's almost as if some people have such a level of entitlement that they are absolutely indignant at the mere suggestion they pay VAT and are incapable of letting it go.

Willyoujustbequiet · 06/06/2024 19:11

ResisterRex · 06/06/2024 18:59

The state school ones yes, they have been for many years.

God how spiteful. She means unpleasant things in terms of uprooting a child.

It’s true that it won’t be that pleasant for state school class sizes to have to go up with resources stretched ever thinner, but take heart, Keir will make good.
