To think staying in your pyjamas on stay at home days is minging?

Iaminthefly · 05/06/2024 06:29

A mum has just posted on one of my SM groups saying that she never gets herself or DC out of their pyjamas if they are having a day in the house. She asked if other people do the same. Loads of people have responded saying they also don't dress themselves or DC if they aren't planning on leaving the house.

AIBU to find this a bit minging? Fair enough if you're ill or as a one off, but every time you are home? Who want's to sit around all day unwashed in clothes you've had on all night? Also surely it's setting a terrible example for your children?

Maybe I'm just an old dinosaur but I think it shows a shocking lack of any standards.

Feel free to tell me I'm old and out of touch.

I think it affects mental state too. Getting ready and dressed to face the day, even if you're staying in house all day, gives you a mental kick-start.

I think if I was in my pyjamas all day I'd end up being lazier than if I was dressed

Spacecrispsnack · 05/06/2024 06:32

It might not be your choice, which is fine but YABU to describe it as minging, it makes you sound like a bully. I know loads of people who do this, and none of them are ‘mingling’.

I personally don’t, I have a 12pm cut off where I suddenly feel I have to get dressed!

Mrsjayy · 05/06/2024 06:33

I don't see why one day would leave them dirty what's dirty about sleeping then not getting dressed ? nothing happens to you if you don't shower every day.

Mrsjayy · 05/06/2024 06:35

I don't like sitting around in pyjamas I like to get dressed but sometimes it's the day befores clothes and I don't jump in the shower if I'm not going out!

Iaminthefly · 05/06/2024 06:35

I don't mean to sound like a bully. I meant it more from the personal view point that I would feel sweaty, smelly and basically minging if I sat around in last nights PJs all day!

OolongTeaDrinker · 05/06/2024 06:35

Are you a very sweaty person OP who drools over themselves at night or something? Why are you PJs so dirty after wearing them for a night?

Illbefinejustbloodyfine · 05/06/2024 06:36

DC do this sometimes, they havebusy lives between school, activities and after school care. On Saturdays they often stay in pjs until we go someshre/outside. They will have had a bath the night before abd clean pjs so aren't dirty....I usually change into "house clothes" likeleggings/t shirt.

Iaminthefly · 05/06/2024 06:37

@Mrsjayy But it wasn't just one day. Some people were saying they do it multiple days. One woman said she wfh three days a week and never gets dressed when she does!

I don't think it's minging, and I don't judge people who do it, but it isn't for me.

I feel like I haven't started the day properly until I am dressed. I agree with @ClaustrophobicKipper that getting dressed gives me a mental kick start to the day.

Brandnewskytohangyourstarsupon · 05/06/2024 06:37

Oh behave.

Are we judging how people relax and unwind now ffs.

Is nothing anyone does in their own home safe from comment and criticism now.

MakeMineExtraHot · 05/06/2024 06:37

Genuinely I do not smell or sweat enough that wearing clothes for a few hours means the clothes need changing and I need a shower. Even if that is overnight. That said, I sleep naked.

footgoldcycle · 05/06/2024 06:38

It saves on laundry

BoobyDazzler · 05/06/2024 06:38

LongSinceGotUpAndGone · 05/06/2024 06:38

It's not 'minging' but it's a bit depressing.

FTPM1980 · 05/06/2024 06:38

But how many days are you actually not leaving the house?
I only wear a t-shirt to bed, and need to put a bra on so it doesn't work for me unless I am ill in bed. But the teens will stay in pj's until they need to get dressed....depending what we/they are doing...going shopping requires different clothes to the gym or walking the dog

Spacecrispsnack · 05/06/2024 06:38

@Iaminthefly it was a classic bully word at my school @Iaminthefly they all used it at everyone, over the tiniest thing (eugh you sneezed you absolute disgusting you’re so minging’ etc etc) so I am probably oversensitive about it!

Bs0u416d · 05/06/2024 06:39

I object more to your persistent use of the word 'minging'.

Iaminthefly · 05/06/2024 06:39

@OolongTeaDrinker No I'm not but everyone sweats etc. at night. I would feel very grim sitting around all day in last nights pyjamas.

I morning lounge and dressed when you go out seems world's aways from deciding that you will stay indoors all day long and spending the entire day in your pj's. If everyone is sick, then that's fine but otherwise it sounds entirely depressing.

She isn't hurting anybody though, she's sitting in her house comfortable and working who's .standards should she live up to?

SheepAndSword · 05/06/2024 06:40

I'm ill so have a get out of jail free card 😁

But I still have to change and wash everything each day (including bedding) to get rid of spores.

No I don't think it's minging to stay in pj's at home all day once in a while. It does make you feel better to put on clean clothes and make up (if you wear it) but a day doesn't hurt at all.

Gymmum82 · 05/06/2024 06:40

If I go out then come back home, jammies on. If I stay in all day, jammies stay on. Basically if I’m in my house I’m wearing jammies. I only wear clothes to leave the house. Comfort only for me

Never gets showered / washed / dressed or doesn’t get dressed into outdoor clothes?

I can imagine not putting outdoor clothes on but I’d shower and change over the three days.

Occasional pyjama days were great fun when the kids were little, especially in winter when the weather is rubbish. A day of films and board games with the fire on and blankets and comfort food. We would then have a shower / bath before bed.

EsmeSusanOgg · 05/06/2024 06:43

PJ/ duvet days are a once in a blue moon treat (and we're when I was a kid 'in the olden days' as mine tell me). One day in PJs is not minging. Especially for little kids.

You wash your bedding every day why what spores are you on about ?
