Boyfriend’s bizarre underwear routine?

Snickerdoodle55 · 04/06/2024 09:42

I recently moved in with BF. I have since discovered that he only changes his underwear after he showers in the evening and doesn’t replace them with a new pair each morning after sleeping in them. I think this is very strange and that each time you get dressed for the day you should change your underwear.

I haven’t lived with a man for a long time so I guess I could be unreasonable to think this way?

YABU - he is still changing them daily so no issue

YANBU - he should change them when getting dressed in the morning

What's going to happen to his pants ine between his shower and doing to work?

QuantumPanic · 04/06/2024 15:53

Some hilarious comments on here.

Imo as long as you shower 1-2 times a week and change your pants about that often you're clean.

I haven't owned pyjamas since I was in single digits, but honestly who cares what people wear to bed?

Turning them inside out doesn't count.

SallyWD · 04/06/2024 16:00

I'm amazed everyone thinks this is so weird! What on earth happens to pants during the night that means the need to changed the next morning? Surely they stay clean in the night - unlike during the days when you're repeatedly going to the toilet.

sakura06 · 04/06/2024 16:00

He changes it every day. Surely that's what most people do?

Exactly!

My ex did this i found it strange too Envy

S00tyandSweep · 04/06/2024 16:14

TBH, I find it worse that there are people on here saying they shower in the morning, then after a (potentially) hot, sweaty day, get into bed naked without showering first 😱

Unless you're changing your sheets every day, surely all naked sleepers need to have a proper wash before bed 🤔

OOh, wait till the menopause honey....

Sorry but fresh underwear in the morning (unless you are in your 20s and doing the walk of shame) is minimum cleanliness...

I have just hit menopause. The knickers I put on after my evening shower (which is far more common than a morning one because I do sport in the evening) are fine in the morning. I'm sure it's different for every woman, but I don't have much cervical mucous any more and no bleeding.

I do still change, but that's more for my own preference rather than any "need" as such.

Whatever it meant by your "Oooh wait" hasn't happened to me yet

Utterlyb · 04/06/2024 16:35

OP@Snickerdoodle55 I think there will be wives and gfs on here who think you are lucky to have an OH who showers and changes their pants once a day! The shower once a day thing is a relatively new thing, probably like many, my mum had a bath once a week in a tin bath in front of the fire that all 5 kids plus parents shared.

Danioyellow · 04/06/2024 16:38

Bignanna · 04/06/2024 14:19

Surely you can tell by the number of pants in the wash!

I was going to reply with that but was expecting an instant, stupid dig of something like ‘but why are you doing another adults washing’ 🙄 and imo you don’t need to count the pants in the wash to know how many people are going through. I find it far stranger that you can be with a life partner for years and years, and have an adult son you’ve obviously raised from birth, and not know their basic routines?

scarletbegoniass · 04/06/2024 16:38

Don’t wear underwear to bed (apart from when on my period) but I wouldn’t change in the morning. Can’t get very dirty from sleeping, surely.

CharlotteBog · 04/06/2024 16:39

inamarina · 04/06/2024 15:27

I never count the pants in the wash.

Indeed. I keep the amount of contact between my hands and my teen's pants to a minimum.

My fella sleeps in underwear. He tends to wear his ‘sleepy time pants’ at night which are a bit baggier and then changes into normal (clean) ones in the morning. He has more normal pants than sleepy time pants though so if they haven’t been washed in time he will use a fresh pair of normal pants to sleep in instead.

Please stop him using the phrase “sleepy time pants”. Thank you

Not every day is hot and sweaty. We don't have to sleep in pristine clean sheets every night.
It's OK to be in contact with your own (and anyone who are close enough to share a bed with) skin cells, a few shed hairs, some bacteria. We are organic and designed very well to stay well.

Lifelikinotdothinki · 04/06/2024 10:15

Years ago growing up, we didn’t have showers we just had a bath tub. All of us had a bath once a week. My dad was mean with the hot water, so you weren’t allowed much. No one died.

And this is why so many countries thought the British had low standards of cleanliness.

thesugarbumfairy · 04/06/2024 16:44

I see no issue here.
(I wear a nightie. And pants)
The kids (boys) shower in the evening and wear their pants (trunks) to bed. They have never liked pjs and don't want to sleep naked. They are clean. Their beds are clean. Why change them again in the morning?
I don't see the point. They don't shower in the morning because it means less time in bed. I don't shower in the morning because I can't be arsed.

drainthebath · 04/06/2024 16:48

@Jc2001

PJs 😂i didn't think anyone under 70 wore them.
So all those cute shortie PJs and PJs sold in shops like Zara and H&M were for over 70s in your mind?

gemsgv · 04/06/2024 16:49

Well it's not like he's going to have any discharge is it?

Ew. He had a physical job. Of course he needs to shower daily. You have low standards

BloodyHellKenAgain · 04/06/2024 16:59

I think its strange that he wears underwear in bed !!

henlake7 · 04/06/2024 17:08

I am def disappointed that this 'bizarre underwear routine' didnt involve his pants on his head whilst prancing round the bedroom doing a helicopter dance!!LOL

Also underwear in bed isnt weird, naked in bed isnt weird, pj's arent weird....its all personal choice.
I sleep with 3 dogs in my bed, being naked would be potentially scarring to them and possibly physically scarring to me if I get a claw in the wrong place!

and who cares when you shower!? You dont even have to shower/bathe every day to be clean, as long as you are washing the sweaty cracks and crevices every day then thats good enough. There is alot of research that excessive cleansing can even adversely affect your skin biome.
I usually shower after cardio in the morning but a couple of times a week I might just have a strip wash. I dont stink and Im still alive!

Broaden your mind, it's quite common.

CharlotteBog · 04/06/2024 17:18

For balance though, the people that died from not showering before and after going to bed or touched their bedding with their naked skin or didn't change their underwear often enough cannot speak up. I bet they regret their slovenly way now, eh?!

HelpMeGetThrough · 04/06/2024 17:28

Sleepy Time? Are they pull ups with Thomas on them?
