Boyfriend’s bizarre underwear routine?

Snickerdoodle55 · 04/06/2024 09:42

I recently moved in with BF. I have since discovered that he only changes his underwear after he showers in the evening and doesn’t replace them with a new pair each morning after sleeping in them. I think this is very strange and that each time you get dressed for the day you should change your underwear.

I haven’t lived with a man for a long time so I guess I could be unreasonable to think this way?

YABU - he is still changing them daily so no issue

YANBU - he should change them when getting dressed in the morning

I don't understand showering in the evening only, can't imagine you'd feel very fresh the next morning and ready for the day. Shower at night if I'm particularly grubby from the day but always, always shower in the morning with fresh underwear

Why do you need to shower again in the morning? Unless you’re incontinent it’s a waste of water and energy! You only need a quick wash imo.

I have been married for 18 years and just realised I have no idea if DH does this, he showers at night and put clean boxers on for bed but I don’t know if he changes them when he dresses again in the morning. He doesn’t shower before work as he leaves at 4/5 am but he’s not sweaty I’ve never once thought he was whiffy unless after a full days manual labour on a hot day. He would go straight in the shower after work anyway.

Surely you can tell by the number of pants in the wash!

Bignanna · 04/06/2024 14:26

As long as you wash/shower once a day and change your underwear that’s fine, unless you are a prolific sweater, have leaking wounds, a skin condition , indulging in sexual activity, or are incontinent! It’s just a waste of water and electricity otherwise. I don't smell.
Similarly, once a week wash for bedding and towels, unless you want to make work for yourselves.

GooseClues · 04/06/2024 14:32

I bet the BF is complaining to a friend right now that his GF just moved in, doesn’t shower in the evening and gets in bed dirty, not even putting on a fresh pair of undies/pjs and how grim it is 😂

I mean the above half jokingly. Unless you change your pants twice a day you are a bit weird for criticising his hygiene.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 04/06/2024 14:38

They must be pissing the bed I heard its common with karens

What does this even mean?

TuesdayWhistler · 04/06/2024 14:41

Im always extremely shocked by the amount of laundry Mumsnet users aim they HAVE to do.

I'm now seeing why so many people have such huge piles.

The earth is knackered, but hey, gotta wash everything after 7 hours wear.. 🙄🙄🙄

Haha that would be absolutely valid I suppose. For me, the question was whether or not it was odd to wear the same undies all night and then to work the next day. I don’t think he’s dirty or unhygienic I just found it a bit strange! I do tend to shower in the morning, put on a fresh pair then change into something else after work so I probably do change twice a day personally but I think I could be the odd one one for that. I don’t just wear my work clothes to bed.

I don’t find it weird that he wears underwear to bed at all only that he keeps them on for the next 24h.

Why to buggery do you crazy people know how often your DHs and adult DSs change pants? How can someone else's pants be a part of your life?

I just happened to wake up this morning at 5 when he got up and saw him, then asked about it. I guess the 5am start is a contributory factor too

Because at some point about 20 years ago made a throwaway comment about the number of pairs of pants in the laundry basket. H informed me he changes them twice a day and if he has done sport, maybe 3x. Other than answering this thread, I have never actively considered it since.

S18 still lives at home so the same thing with large numbers of pairs of pants leads me to assume he changes his as often. Ditto with thought that has gone into it.

My husband does this, never understood it. He showers after work, clean boxers on then doesn't change till he gets his showered the next day after work. He's a tradesman and always says what's the point I'm putting a clean bum etc in it and going to do messy work the next morning. Clean underwear when he showers in the mornings when no work obviously though or on holiday in morning and after shower in the evening.

Its different I suppose for women with pants.

Seriously, you don't get why your DH who is a tradesman prefers to shower as soon as he gets home from work & changes his underwear until the next day again..you really can't understand that preference (as opposed to showering every morning) in relation to his physically exerting job?

I never count the pants in the wash.

The sleeping in pants bit would put me off more than the not washing them.

How is someone else sleeping in pants off putting?

Tiswa · 04/06/2024 15:33

I am struggling to comprehend how those who shower in the morning (valid choice to wake up) think it is more hygienic to shower then than in the evening

and that the OP can’t see that if someone needs to get up and leave that early an evening shower may fit in bettrr

Bignanna · 04/06/2024 15:35

Even so you’d notice a large amount of pants in the wash!

What's weird about sleeping in underwear?

The clue is in the name!
Underwear is for wearing “under clothes”

PrincessHoneysuckle · 04/06/2024 15:38

I couldn't sleep in pants. Those areas need to get air to them at least a few hrs a day imo.

I have no issue whatsoever with the evening shower! Just wasn’t sure on not changing pants before work 🤷🏼‍♀️

He sleeps in underwear?!

Since when is that weird? I think I sleep wrong 🤷

ladyofshertonabbas · 04/06/2024 15:45

What kind of job does he do? Farmer or lawyer?

NewShoes · 04/06/2024 15:47

I wouldn’t find this weird at all! He’s showering daily and changing his underwear daily, I’m not sure I see the problem.

Snickerdoodle55 · 04/06/2024 15:47

Blue collar worker (I think this probably makes it all ok and I have made a mountain out of a molehill)

Mine would be changed in the morning as well. Couldn't start the day without clean undercrackers.
