To think he's said this in case he doesn't want to eat with me?

I made a profile on an app and some guy's asked me out for a bite to eat. I said yes, and we've agreed to meet this weekend.
Now he's said shall we have a short walk first before the food to 'see how we feel'?

That's obviously code for, I'll see if I fancy you and if not I don't have to eat with you. It wasn't a fancy sit down meal, just a quick bite to eat like. Should I still go ahead? I don't know why, this has put me off slightly.
It was only some waffle place, I wouldn't go for a formal meal for a first date either. Should I still go?

I'm sure there was a thread on here a few years back about a woman who met her date outside a shopping centre. They walked the perimeter of the place, then he said he needed to go in and buy his kid some shoes! Date over. Something like that! This puts me in mind of that.

I wouldn't agree to a walking date as I want to look at someone when I'm talking to them and vice versa. Chatting and walking only works for me when I know someone well. Even then I'd rather stop off at a cafe or whatever and chat properly.

I agree with most others and I wouldn't bother now he's "downgraded" you. What an insult!

BruhWhy · 30/05/2024 17:03

A) You go for the audition and fail, go home waffle-less 🖕
B) You go for the audition and pass, and are allowed to eat a waffle 🖕

Either way, nah.

Rummikub · 30/05/2024 17:05

I think I might be tempted to suggest a walk round primark. Every level. If he copes with that he can have a waffle.

FictionalCharacter · 29/05/2024 19:20

I’d be pretty annoyed if someone invited me out for “a bite to eat”, I accepted and then he said that. You don’t invite someone and then change the invitation.

This made me proper lol. Hanging on for the free waffle 😂😂😂😂

TheBottomsOfMyTrousersAreRolled · 30/05/2024 17:09

I know a couple of nice men who suddenly become upset and terrified when faced with a tomato garnish.
😂

OlderGlaswegianLivingInDevon · 30/05/2024 17:10

btw what time of day are you going for this ' walk ' / waffle ?

TargetPractice11 · 30/05/2024 17:12

determinedtomakethiswork · 29/05/2024 18:45

I would never ever go for a walk as a date unless it was someone who was into hiking. Walking down the road with someone is not a date.

Yeah this.

Sounds so cheap and lazy.

Sounds like a cheap skate, not something I'd be interested in. A walk? No thank you 🙂‍↔️

Yes I've heard men doing this to see if you are worth it, I personally wouldn't agree to go for a walk as a date 😅😂

You see I met my now boyfriend by going for a walk. Met him and walked to a cafe he offered me lunch I said no but we had a cup of tea. Walk is ideal / walk side by side and public place etc

Lavenderflower · 30/05/2024 18:02

I personally wouldn't go for a walk with someone I did not know - purely for safety reasons. I rather be in a public place like going for a coffee.

Lotsofsnacks · 30/05/2024 18:43

I think that will be quite cringe, as if one wants to go for food after the walk, and the other doesn’t, it will make the one rejected feel quite crap! Though I 100% agree with his thinking, though he’s going wrong way about it.

When I was dating in the past I used to always grab a coffee, or quick drink at lunchtime in the daytime, so you can have a chat and assess if you fancy them enough to go on an evening date.

As before this, I had been stuck on dinner dates e.g. where as soon as i got there, I knew I didn’t fancy them, or found the conversation cringe etc during the meal, but as was a sit down meal, couldn’t really just make excuses 20 mins in and leave!! It can be very painful!! Maybe just meet for an initial coffee in the day first.

My first date was a boy calling for me at my house at 6pm. We walked round the neighbourhood holding hands and looking in shop windows 😊. I was 14. It was ok for a 14 year old…

What's it like reading about someone this socially and sexually inept, so insulting and unappealing to a woman, and thinking it's actually about the sodding waffle?

Are there really this many men with so little sexual game? Who read this and honestly think it's all because women are obsessed with getting free waffles?

How on earth is the species not extinct yet?

So I hear. I'll pray for you and all the sexually gormless men.

Frozenblox · 30/05/2024 19:58

You’re just assuming the worst. He might be a lovely
guy who doesnt want to pressure you. Maybe he’s a bit anxious and worried you won’t like him
and is giving you a get out , maybe he’s been burned before?

I think somewhere you can grab a coffee then a little walk would be lovely, maybe around the docks as long as he’s not a weirdo who will push you in!! Somewhere with lots of people.

I’d hate to have a meal with a first date unless i knew i was into them. I always stuck with coffee or drinks then went onto more if i wanted to.

Thats good! Also who doesn’t like a waffle?! Let’s hope he’s a good candidate and waffles and maybe more might be in the menu! 😁

Thank you! Though now I'm thinking maybe he's just said that to appease me, I'm probably overthinking it 🤣
