I work in food supply chain.
Four of the 'big' grocery retailers have just asked to renegotiate at least four weeks min supply, as opposed to two.
This happened in Feb 2020 as well.
Lots of rhetoric about being on a war footing, from politicos.
And then Sunak essentially jumping ship yesterday, as though he knows there is a crisis on the horizon that he wants no part of.
There is no way that the Tories have a prayer in a July election.
So what do they know that they aren't telling us?

Coincidentally I very recently watched the film about the Bay of Pigs crisis that came out a few years back.

And today it's being reported that Putin is "practising" nuclear strikes with dummy war heads in response to "US aggression".

I tend to think of it all as dick waving as of course it's all out of our control so I just keep half an eye on it and hope it is just the "theatre of war".

Never entirely sure if ignorance is bliss....

But I also don't like surprises....

There has been a similar warning in Denmark, which does not have the brexit issues.
There is explicit recommendation to get iodine for the under 40s for radioactivity. So the concern is (hopefully) a Chernobyl.

That's interesting. I have a drum of kelp tablets somewhere (also the actual Iodine tablets the Irish government sent to every household about 25 years ago, but they're probably out of date).

Think this may have prompted that post - did a bit of goggling and saw a reuters report from 2022 as well saying that iodine was being stocked up on then due to the possibility of the Ukraine conflict leading to "nuclear accidents" near the borders.

The Irish government sent them to households when we were having one of our attacks of nerves about GB putting most of its nuclear power plants as close to Ireland as possible.

It is as @DeanElderberry writes, particularly in the event of nuclear radiation.

At the end of this year and into 2025 the sun is expected to reach it's 'solar maximum'. This has the potential to knock out power grids and the internet for months at a time. We've already experienced stronger geomagnetic storms than usual, with the Aurora Borealis being visible in England.

One thing I am sure of, Jesus fed thousands with three loaves and two fishes, and what some of them are promising they would need more than one miracle. I have never seen such small amounts of money being stretched as far as their immaginations.

What do Iodine tablets do? Sorry being thick here

Radio acrive iodide was in use by the NHS in it's first decade - and beyond. It was used to trace thyroid cells in other parts of the body to see how it spread.

Radioactive iodine is released by nuclear reactions. The thyroid gland absorbs iodine but if you saturate the thyroid with iodine from taking a high does it will not absorb the radioactive iodine.
