I work in food supply chain.
Four of the 'big' grocery retailers have just asked to renegotiate at least four weeks min supply, as opposed to two.
This happened in Feb 2020 as well.
Lots of rhetoric about being on a war footing, from politicos.
And then Sunak essentially jumping ship yesterday, as though he knows there is a crisis on the horizon that he wants no part of.
There is no way that the Tories have a prayer in a July election.
So what do they know that they aren't telling us?

If your interested in bird flu I'd keep to places like new scientist. It's always been a possibility but as far as I'm aware it's a background worry until there is cluster of human to human transmission.

There are countless viruses just waiting to jump the species barrier. Evolution is just a happy accident of sorts ( or unhappy for us).

Let's see if some government cronies make profit out another human IT system if it did happen.

Just how would Germany dictate to the whole EU with their own laws? The EU might decide something along these lines but I think prepping for war is sensible at the moment. Prepare for the worst, hope (and work on) the best.

There’s been talk of an EU army for many many years. This could well be it!

The same way much of EI law was has been heavily guided by Germany and her allies.

The EU as a bloc need to take defence more seriously, the threat from Russia is a very real one.

Yes there has been chatter (largely by the hard right and euro-sceptics) about an EU army for some time but it won’t happen. They will strengthen their defence cooperation and I bloody well hope will continue to support Ukraine but defence is a matter for individual states.

Frankly every country in Europe should have a plan similar to Germany’s, and many already do to some extent. We could well end up at war if Ukraine is allowed to fall.

And the chat has got louder since Trump was President and said he was so longer going to give as much funding to NATO.

I have never, ever seen the problem with an EU army; UN troops of different nationalities cooperate together all of the time. Freedom, democracy and human rights just as good reasons to fight for as King and country imho.

fair point, and it used to be more problematic when one of the strongest voices in the EU was the UK, which recently has had governments packed with people strongly influenced by Russian money.

The EU has benefited hugely from losing that malign influence post-Brexit.

It makes sense, as in total the EU defence budget is massive. But it is ineffective as it is splintered. You can buy the warship, but not the aircraft and maintenance if you are solo.
Of course, some people immediately assume there is be mandatory consprition to fight against love and goodness if there is an EU army. Ideally, we would have enough cash to fund a strong military and enough left over, but that choice is not on the table.
