Anyone watching for Northern Lights tonight?

It’s supposed to be a perfect night to see them in the U.K. the combination of the solar flare and the clear sky means they’re potentially visible from anywhere in the U.K. Just wondering if I’m the only one staring out the window hoping to see something!

I'm lucky that we can see them on a semi regular basis where I live, they are beautiful, hope you catch a glimpse.

Noname1000 · 10/05/2024 22:00

Too much light pollution here.

JaceLancs · 10/05/2024 22:02

DS has just gone out for a drive to nearest place with low light pollution - I considered joining him but the sofa, cat and gin won

StandingOvulation · 10/05/2024 22:03

Yes I'm trying.

I'm in Worcestershire.

It's still quite light here

skilpadde · 10/05/2024 22:04

It's too light here yet, but I'm feeling hopeful...

Im one of the lucky ones who sees threm regulary. Im popping my head out every 20mins atm because no matter how many times I see them, they are amazing and just so special. I cant find the right words, but I just love to watch and feel spellbound??

RowanRowan · 10/05/2024 22:07

I have got to drive north into the Pennines in an hour to collect DC. It would be lovely to catch a glimpse of them. Seen them a few times before but it’s always amazing.

ZipZapZoom · 10/05/2024 22:07

Saw them here briefly on a late night dog walk through the park. I normally moan it's unlit and therefore not a great place to walk once the sun sets but it came into its own tonight. Grin

ApolloandDaphne · 10/05/2024 22:08

Still too light here but trying to stay awake to see if we can see them.

GlueNoGlue · 10/05/2024 22:10

@Cadela where are you? I’m very jealous!

I’ve been all over trying to see them and been so unlucky! Im hoping tonight is the night for me!

Dc just told me I can see them through a camera and I did! Sky was slightly different in colour but couldn’t really see them with the naked eye. (South east).

Who can be arsed. I'll just look at a picture, the light pollution here is terrible anyway.

Who shat in your cornflakes?

hushabybaby · 10/05/2024 22:20

I'd love to but north of me is a huge town.. too much light pollution!

I'll try and have a watch later

Travis1 · 10/05/2024 22:21

Currently sat at Loch Lomond with lots of other aurora chasers but it’s gotten a bit cloudy

Ah that's cool!
Can't tell from my photos - I think it's just light pollution, too close to London

StiggyZardust · 10/05/2024 22:27

@Riverlee that's the same as we can see via the phone camera. I wasn't convinced but DH is very excited ( might be the beer helping).

GlueNoGlue · 10/05/2024 22:28

@StiggyZardust @Riverlee so can you see nothing with your eyes and only see with the camera? How do you know where to point?

I feel so sad for you tbh

StiggyZardust · 10/05/2024 22:30

We've just scanned round the sky, vaguely north.

Point North. Try to be higher then the horizon

Where I live Ive seen them many times, some shows have been better then others, some show can only be seen via a camera , Ive shots ranging from green/grey shadows to pink purple rainbows.
