Anyone watching for Northern Lights tonight?

It’s supposed to be a perfect night to see them in the U.K. the combination of the solar flare and the clear sky means they’re potentially visible from anywhere in the U.K. Just wondering if I’m the only one staring out the window hoping to see something!

As a bit of background FWIW the likes of NOAA that monitor solar activity gave the heads up that this might be a longer lasting storm than usual because there were several solar events (Coronal Mass Ejections, or CMEs) in a sequence a couple of day back rather than the normal single event- so doubly crossing fingers for tonight..

Who on earth has clicked on YABU? Confused

Are these the ones who missed the Northern Lights, and it's made them salty, and bitter?! 😆

As a pps said @GlueNoGlue thanks for starting this thread. I went out to look because of you (AND SAW THE NORTHERN LIGHTS!) Grin

Anyone see anything from one of the London parks? I'm very central so didn't see a thing, gutted! Going to take the kids somewhere tonight but don't know where - Parliament Hill?!

I votedYanbu despite missing them!
I noticed the beautifully fine sickle moon 🌙 in the early evening sky with magnificent pinks and blues- hopefully tonight they will be visible here 🤞🌙🌌🤩

My daughter lives in a flat in Finsbury Park and there was a lovely view across the city despite the light pollution. Late though, after midnight.

The apps really can't predict to that level of accuracy - as soon as it's dark it's worth looking.

GlueNoGlue · 11/05/2024 22:14

It’s pitch black here already, is it still light in other areas?

Hate to say it but the last set of predictions run by NOAA in the last hour didn't look terribly promising for the southern uk.

Even so worth a look with fingers crossed.
