Anyone watching for Northern Lights tonight?

It’s supposed to be a perfect night to see them in the U.K. the combination of the solar flare and the clear sky means they’re potentially visible from anywhere in the U.K. Just wondering if I’m the only one staring out the window hoping to see something!

On the North Coast of Cornwall here, both photos are the same settings but one is pointing north & the other south. I cannot see these colours with the naked eye! To the north is definitely lighter & greener to my eyes but nothing like this. Most of the photos you'll see are from the advantage of technology.

It's my dream to actually properly see them

We have looked and it's a bit brighter than usual but that's it. South coast though so probably not the best place to see it.

StiggyZardust · 10/05/2024 23:25

Getting brighter

Off outside to look as soon as ds stops feeding!

Lesleyknopeswaffleiron · 10/05/2024 23:31

I’ve been going out onto the park on my street every 20 mins for the last hour, in my jammies, like a total eejit. Too much light pollution. I think I got a shimmer of green but might try again later

(also my DS was up three times last night so I am knackered and should be asleep but too excited for the lights. Never seen them. Don’t want to miss my chance!)

@StiggyZardust @Riverlee so can you see nothing with your eyes and only see with the camera? How do you know where to point?

I can see them only through my phone. I'm down south on the coast facing Nirth

Try with your phone camera!

WingBingo · 10/05/2024 23:37

I can see them with the naked eye. Camera does show them up more though.

usually when you see an amazing sky and take a picture, it never does it justice, so this is a welcome aspect.

MrsAvocet · 10/05/2024 23:37

We have just arrived home (Cumbria) and can see some glowing with the naked eye. DH and DS are in the garden with cameras at the moment but I have had a crazily busy day so I'll wait to see them in the morning - I'm off to bed! Our local Facebook groups are all filling up with photos now and it looks like lots of people are getting good ones.

AnneShirleysNewDress · 10/05/2024 23:40

I'm in the central belt in Scotland.
