Just curious. I’ll be voting for them reluctantly but I’m not really sure what can or will be done about the state of the country. It seems we’re skint so they’ll just have to tinker around the edges.

I'd just like to not worry about my aging parenting or kids needing A&E and knowing it's a 10 hour + miserable experience. Private health care doesnt help you with this so I don't know how even the tories are OK with it.

I'd like the government to feel less seedy and corrupt

WinterMorn · 03/05/2024 13:48

A strong commitment to and investment in defence, as without that, nothing else matters.

HermioneWeasley · 03/05/2024 13:52

I expect women’s rights and child safeguarding to be abandoned on the altar of gender ideology

i expect our foreign policy to be dictated by anti semites and British Jews to feel wholly unsafe

i expect education to be a mess when people who can’t afford to pay VAT on private school fees scramble for places

i don’t expect any appreciable improvement in public services because there isn’t any money and Labour will support workers striking (which is sometimes legitimate and in other cases not) - trains will continue to be an unreliable and expensive shit show.

Angela Raynor’s workers rights bill is so bonkers even some unions think it’s mad, so we can look forward to companies being hesitant to hire people and rising employment costs keeping the prices of everything high.

don’t get me wrong, I think the tories are a shit show as well. I just think things won’t be any better under Labour.

Meadowfinch · 03/05/2024 14:04

Ineptitude.
In-fighting.
A return to a Tory or coalition govt within one term.

I hope I'm wrong but I don't think so.

Elphame · 03/05/2024 14:06

Honestly?

Complete economic collapse.
No funding for NHS and Schools
No investment in infrastructure or job creation
Money wasted on pet projects of no benefit to the country.

Well that's what is happening in Wales now under a Labour administration so I expect England will soon follow.

Gettingbysomehow · 03/05/2024 14:07

I would appreciate being told the truth for once.
There is absolutely no money and the country is bankrupt so we won't be fixing this mess anytime soon.
I'll vote for anyone who says that.

Gettingbysomehow · 03/05/2024 14:08

Oh and we're going to sack Angela Raynor because she hasn't got a clue. I'll vote for that as I can't stand the woman.

I’m expecting a Wales like situation plus extra tensions due to global stuff

DrawersOnTheDoors · 03/05/2024 14:12

A return of basic competence (no BJ lying, Liz Truss borrowing shocks).

A return to some level of decency (hopefully a lot less performative cruelty for starters).

I would hope, a big focus on improving the NHS and crucially social care (I don’t think these things can be tackled separately).

I hope that Labour are clever about systems thinking and really spend the money strategically well, eg putting money into NHS training, improving conditions so that people stay in institutions avoiding loads of temp staff. That way the little money there is can be maximised in its effects.

This.

Teentaxidriver · 03/05/2024 14:14

And much much higher taxes

Teentaxidriver · 03/05/2024 14:15

Labour like to spend (other people’s) money. Tories have already driven taxes high with their ineptitude and waste, now Labour will drive them to eye watering levels.

Exactly this.

OriginalUsername2 · 03/05/2024 14:17

I just want to see anyone but the Tories have a go at it. I don’t expect miracles. They’re taking over from a shit show.

Biker47 · 03/05/2024 14:19

Probably another foray into the wonderful world of loading everything from schools and hospitals on to unaffordable PFI deals to give the illusion of caring and investing, but just resigning my children into a lifetime of higher taxes to pay it back.

Overthebow · 03/05/2024 14:20

I don’t expect anything hugely different to be honest. People are in uproar this week about Tory proposals for disability payments but labour have already said they’ll be looking at it too as it’s unaffordable so no difference there. They’ll screw the education system more with the VAT for private schools, and they don’t seem to have a decent plan for the NHS. I don’t like either party at the moment.

Tippexy · 03/05/2024 14:20

A frightening reduction in women’s rights

Higher taxes

I agree with this actually.

It would indicate honesty and realism at least.

This.. 💯 👌

Choresavoidance · 03/05/2024 14:21

I think many people will be very surprised when they find out that they themselves are actually part of the group ‘with the broadest shoulders’ who apparently need to pay more to pay their fair share

Shade17 · 03/05/2024 14:23

Higher taxes, even worse public services, a deep recession and total incompetence. These idiots couldn’t run a village fete.

I am constantly amazed at the demands made by people on here who seem to have zero clue as to how those demands would be funded. And when you ask they just say some nonsensical things about corporation tax, off shoring and dodgy contracts. I totally acknowledge corruption and waste has been an issue in the Tory party but I think relying on it to ‘prove’ we can afford things is a really false narrative.

Very few people are arseholes who, if money was infinite, would want people to suffer or withhold things to prove a point or feel superior. But it seems everyone would rather be deluded and popular than face reality which is part of the problem

Nothing really, I’ve found over the years that those in the middle income brackets never gain whoever is in power

anicecuppateaa · 03/05/2024 14:34

Higher taxes. Reduction in the funded childcare hours threshold, both penalising middle income parents with young children. Can’t wait……

JamSandle · 03/05/2024 14:36

I don't have high hopes.
