Should I buy a bright pink velvet sofa

Hi
I’ve been divorced two years out of a pretty abusive relationship and finally got my own home again. Hooray! I have seen a beautiful bright pink velvet sofa but don’t know if I should buy it! I do want to meet my forever man so is it foolish buying such a girly colour? Maybe I should just go for another bright colour that isn’t pink
Am I massively overthinking this?!

If you haven't bought it by now, OP, I'm going to be very disappointed in you.

I have a Victorian vintage style baby pink velvet sofa. I absolutely love it

YeahComeOnThen · 26/04/2024 16:20

I have a tiny wee Chinese hanging padded ornament a friend brought me back from China. I love the colour (specific shade of pink) I've bought a box picture frame to display it in, which my friend thinks is hilarious as it cost many multiples (despite being just a cheap frame) (her gift was from a multi pack of them in different colours!!)... but you've inspired me to try to colour match it & get some sofas!!

The right forever man will not be a man who criticizes your own choice in sofas in your own house.

Get it.

This!

Buy the sofa!

It will be the perfect method of sorting the sheep from the goats.

mathanxiety · 26/04/2024 16:40

@EmpressoftheMundane

That third sofa is to die for.

ReadtheReviews · 26/04/2024 17:24

You're thinking about not buying something based on a theoretical other person's opinion?!! Fuck no. Live for yourself!

Excited101 · 26/04/2024 17:29

I got beautiful pearlescent wine glasses in gorgeous colours when ex DP left me… because ‘plain wine glasses as classic and easy to replace’ was all we’d had at home.

get the sofa!!

Excited101 · 26/04/2024 17:30

Oh! And my sofa is bright yellow velvet, it’s beautiful!

I love this.
One treasured thing becomes the inspiration for a whole room.
To me that is the best of design!

Startingagainandagain · 26/04/2024 18:00

It sounds fabulous and get some colourful cushions as well to go with it!

Enjoy your new home and don't hesitate to create the decor you have always wanted :).

anyonesellinganark · 26/04/2024 18:05

I have the arm chair and footstool that matches that sofa, it's so comfortable. And for the PP that said they can't have velvet because they have animals, it is easier to get the dog hair and dirt off than a fabric sofa. It seems to just brush off

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

But it’s also a serious point. You were considering not buying something that you want, with your money, for your life… on the basis of kowtowing to a man you haven’t even met?! 😳 Oncs you’re sat on your new sofa, give your head a wobble!

yep!

Even if the AIBU was "DP won't move in because he hates my sofa" I'd be wary - the sort of man who'd think "wow she's beautiful, funny, clever...the perfect woman for me but I'm not going to let my mates see me sitting on a PINK SOFA...." would be a bit of a red flag in terms of his maturity.

But this relates to a hypothetical man whom you might never meet (I mean I hope you will if it's what you want, but you don't know) whom you're assuming a) will GAF about your sofa colour and b) to the extent it will affect your relationship? There's a difference between 'considering the future' and massively overthinking!

lilsupersparks · 26/04/2024 18:18

Do it. Of course!
Will be a great test of any new future partner anyway 🤣 we have two pink bathrooms and actually I think a pink sofa would be great for our new snug area 🤔

Boomer55 · 26/04/2024 18:20

It wouldn’t be for me, but if you love it, then buy it.🙂

Newname71 · 26/04/2024 18:31

Do it!
Buy what makes you happy I say.
These are my next purchase (because they’ll make me happy) DH of 25 years rolled is eyes when I showed him 😂

I hope you’ve bought it?

zeibesaffron · 26/04/2024 18:36

Absolutely you should! sounds fab ❤️

MaMisled · 26/04/2024 18:37

Hell yes!

Pickingmyselfup · 26/04/2024 19:08

I'm not keen on the one you shared, it's not bright enough or plush enough.

In my head I'm seeing a bright hot pink suede style sofa which would look amazing with the right colours and accessories.

Hillcrest2022 · 26/04/2024 19:11

Don't you dare....NOT BUY IT.

If only for all of us cheering you on !!!!!!

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 26/04/2024 19:24

Get one for every room.

Sofabookhotchoc · 26/04/2024 19:26

Do it! Grey is out, colour is in!

And all those teasing with their emerald sofas... Pics please? I am looking for bright pink or emerald...

Shannith · 26/04/2024 19:38

Yes. I brought a heals armchair and had it victim bright pink designers guild velvet when I was pregnant.

Was and still is the single most expensive item of furniture I ever bought and it's my favourite thing still.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 26/04/2024 11:40

@hilariousnamehere - your sofa is gorgeous - and now I need a pink sofa and a patchwork one.

We are looking to replace our suite, but I know that leather is a far more sensible option - muddy paw marks wash off, it stands up to the dogs and cat walking on it - we've had a leather suite and it has lasted years. But part of me wants to be totally impractical and get a velvet sofa and chairs.

Just do it! We went leather 10 years ago. I hate the fucker. It does not feel nice to lie on. It feels cold. It gets sticky when it is v hot. It still does need maintaining. And it won't just die! I am told it is "too good" to get rid of.
Never again.

This isn't even a question

Make sure you take a selfie laying on it and send it to him
