Should I buy a bright pink velvet sofa

Hi
I’ve been divorced two years out of a pretty abusive relationship and finally got my own home again. Hooray! I have seen a beautiful bright pink velvet sofa but don’t know if I should buy it! I do want to meet my forever man so is it foolish buying such a girly colour? Maybe I should just go for another bright colour that isn’t pink
Am I massively overthinking this?!

Buy it and always think of it as your Fuck You sofa.
It can be symbolic of your new life beginning.

@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius we had 2 dogs, 1 cat, dc & a busy house & we have velvet sofas/ chairs- teal velvet habitat suite in one room & grey velvet in the kitchen & blue velvet sofa bed in the office. We also have 2 x cream sofas on our sitting room & they're all in good condition !
I really wanted a bubblegum pink velvet habitat suite when we were buying but by the time our house was ready the pink was no longer available so we got teal which is also lovely & we have it about 15 years now!

OP I'm joining the chorus of..get the sofa & the very best of luck to you in your new home!

Get it ,you so deserve it.
Enjoy.

...and an update would be fab :-)

One selects the man to fit the sofa.

One does not select the sofa to fit the man.

Hahahaha 😂. That wins quote of the week.

Op you HAVE to have that sofa. My next one is gonna be pink!

RefreshingCandour · 26/04/2024 08:13

I had a massive row with DH whilst on holiday and stormed off - to a jewellery shop, where I promptly bought a gorgeous expensive (for me) ring. It’s called my Angry Ring. I fucking love it, and each time I look at it I think about being powerful and in charge of my own happiness.

Get the sofa.

THIS!

Tumbler2121 · 26/04/2024 08:21

Yes! absolutely. .. .. I have two pink chairs where I hand dyed the plain covers, now looking for the perfect raspberry sofa to buy when puppy (11 months) is just a bit older and more reliable!

jeaux90 · 26/04/2024 08:22

I remember that feeling of walking into my own place 14 years ago after being in an abusive relationship.

It felt amazing.

Buy whatever you want OP, well done for getting out, pink sofa sounds great!

MavisPennies · 26/04/2024 08:23

Yes! Buy it!

lilybloom2 · 26/04/2024 08:25

Do it for you!
Live life for you

Quitelikeacatslife · 26/04/2024 08:27

I love it, and it will make you happy. It's also a great test of a potential new man. If he's pissy about the sofa you can wave him off. If he hates it but loves that you love it then bingo

EleanorYoung · 26/04/2024 08:29

Please buy some glorious cushions and a lovely throw blanket to go with it!!

BouleDeSuif · 26/04/2024 08:31

Oh yes! Bright pink all the way.

My ex wouldn't let me have anything pink (yes I was a grown woman, yes I shouldn't have put up with it but here we are) and so now I have hot pink EVERYWHERE.

DilemmaDelilah · 26/04/2024 08:33

Not if you have animals! Otherwise definitely yes.

daffodilandtulip · 26/04/2024 08:34

It's things like this that make me NOT want to plan for a future partner Grin

Ticktapticktap · 26/04/2024 08:44

If I didn't have to have a partner agreeing to sofa choice then YES I would 100% buy a pink velvet sofa.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 26/04/2024 11:40

@hilariousnamehere - your sofa is gorgeous - and now I need a pink sofa and a patchwork one.

We are looking to replace our suite, but I know that leather is a far more sensible option - muddy paw marks wash off, it stands up to the dogs and cat walking on it - we've had a leather suite and it has lasted years. But part of me wants to be totally impractical and get a velvet sofa and chairs.

Anywherebuthere · 26/04/2024 11:44

If you like it, buy it.

If you're sure you won't get bored off it quickly.

notacooldad · 26/04/2024 11:47

What's wrong with a ' girlish colour'
I know you want to meet a man but when all is said and done it's your settee that you like.

I had pink wall paper on my landing and stairs and I lived with dh and two adult sons. No one cared. It's just a colour.

RickyGervaislovesdogs · 26/04/2024 11:48

@Motnight that’s lovely.

Go for it OP, I like them too but not sure what colours I’d have on the walls/ rugs etc.

Also child and dog, plus a DH who would whinge 🤣 lol (I change colours all the time- oops).

PS: Don’t let your imaginary man take over your decorating or life choices ever again.

TheCultureHusks · 26/04/2024 12:01

Testina · 26/04/2024 07:34

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

But it’s also a serious point. You were considering not buying something that you want, with your money, for your life… on the basis of kowtowing to a man you haven’t even met?! 😳 Oncs you’re sat on your new sofa, give your head a wobble!

‘XACTLY!!!!!!

FlatCola · 26/04/2024 12:07

The best thing about being single is not having to compromise on anything and it's a joy to decorate your home just as you like it.

Glad you went for it as if you love it now I can't see why you'd not still love it in few years time and there's plenty of colours that work with that shade of pink so can just change the walls & accessories of the room when fancy a new look. I really like velvet sofas in jewel colours.

notacooldad · 26/04/2024 12:14

I think if you go for the pink settee you have to go bold with other colours and decor.
Your room could be amazing!!!

piscofrisco · 26/04/2024 12:15

Yes you should.

bookworm14 · 26/04/2024 12:17

Buy it - it sounds lovely. If a man is put off by your sofa, he’s not a forever man.
