Should I buy a bright pink velvet sofa

Hi
I’ve been divorced two years out of a pretty abusive relationship and finally got my own home again. Hooray! I have seen a beautiful bright pink velvet sofa but don’t know if I should buy it! I do want to meet my forever man so is it foolish buying such a girly colour? Maybe I should just go for another bright colour that isn’t pink
Am I massively overthinking this?!

I had a similar dilemma when newly divorced around a large gold palm tree lamp. I bought it, I love it and my new husband loves it too. And if he didn't he probably wouldn't have any business being my husband

Giggorata · 26/04/2024 12:18

Oooh, yes!
I have seen some lovely pink sofas on Pinterest, placed with emerald green walls. Stunning.

CaraMiaMonCher · 26/04/2024 12:19

How sad that a theoretical man has even entered into your decision making here?!

Just get the sofa, I can’t imagine wanting to a date a man so insecure in himself that he couldn’t sit on a pink sofa from time to time.

I have a pink velvet sofa in my dining room, and my entire living room is painted pinky coral with a mint green sofa. My DP loves my style and the fact that I’m not a grey new build/cockapoo/mrs hinch wannabe.

It’s really freeing to be completely authentically yourself.

TruJay · 26/04/2024 12:19

If it’s the one YOU want absolutely, don’t furnish your house for anyone else but yourself. If you meet someone who believes the colour of your couch is such a major issue then they’re not the person you want to do life with.

BIossomtoes · 26/04/2024 12:24

Buy it. I’d love a pink velvet sofa. My parents had one and it was a thing of beauty.

hilariousnamehere · 26/04/2024 01:03

YES. My one new purchase after renovating my house (which took all my savings and then some) was a ridiculous, wonderful patchwork velvet sofa and it literally makes me smile every time I walk into my living room! Totally worth it! And excited to see yours when it's in!

Terrible pic of mine attached!

God, that’s beautiful. I so want one.

Didimum · 26/04/2024 12:39

Do it! I've got one. Had it for 5 years and it's still my pride and joy. Everyone compliments it – it was even complimented to the estate agent by people who came to view my old house when we were selling it.

But what does any of this have to do with wanting to meet a man?

I’m divorced and I own an emerald green velvet sofa and a scalloped pink velvet sofa. They make me smile every day. Do it!

Love your username!! Yes to buying the sofa OP!

SabreIsMyFave · 26/04/2024 13:12

@Testina

But also - a serious point. You were considering not buying something that you want, with your money, for your life… on the basis of kowtowing to a man you haven’t even met?! 😳 Once you’re sat on your new sofa, give your head a wobble!

@HeadNorth

Fuck's sake - I can't believe you are already diminishing and squashing your wants for a hypothetical, imaginary man you have not even met! Please do not take that attitude into any future relationships you have or you will be doomed to repeat the same cycle of 'pretty abusive' relationships.

You are single - do what you want! If it puts off a man, he wasn't a man you would want. Raiase your standards and value yourself.

This. ^ I missed that bit in the OP. Like fuck would I be worrying about picking a sofa that is bright pink, in case any future man I meet might not like it! Hmm

Also it's not bright pink anyway @Proseccodreams , it's a soft medium magenta. I said this last night on here, and on looking again at the picture/ad/listing that you posted, it's even flagged up at magenta on there!

Pic 1 here is the colour you are going for (magenta.) Pic 2 is a bright pink one. The bright pink one is hideous. 😬

BUY IT

then lie on it in a lovely silky dressing gown, eating chocolate, drinking fizz and flicking V's at your twatty ex!

MrsMitford3 · 26/04/2024 13:20

OMG YES!!!

I coveted a velvet sofa for ages admittedly it is basic navy but I love it. Makes me so happy.
Get the sofa and send pictures!!

I've got sage walls and one emerald wall and really want to get a pink sofa!

NotbloodyGivingupYet · 26/04/2024 14:10

Redpaisely · 26/04/2024 02:13

Sorry I don't like it. Sofa stays with you for years so unless you think you would change in a couple of years, I would say think carefully how you want to plan the room. If you said pink dress with pink shoes and bag, I would have said yes, go for it but sofa is a different story.

Woah hold on there OP, Redpaisely doesn't like it.
Nah, only kidding.
Sofa!
(I am still married and my sofas are grey. They are very nice but they are not pink. Buy it and rejoice)

PizzaPowder · 26/04/2024 14:13

Buy the pink sofa! When i split from my ex and bought my own flat it looked slightly bonkers but it was mine and it was exactly what i wanted.

Go for it!

cheeseandketchupsandwich · 26/04/2024 14:19

If you meet your 'forever man' after buying this sofa and he's put off you because of the colour, HE'S NOT YOUR FOREVER MAN!

Buy the sofa and please yourself.

Enjoy and be happy x

jimbort · 26/04/2024 15:09

Yes!

Proseccodreams · 25/04/2024 22:57

This is the one DFS!
I will post again when I get it !

It’s a lovely colour- I’d say it was berry pink, not bright pink like Barbie, so should appeal to anyone , not that it matters what anyone else thinks, only you!

DameSylvieKrin · 26/04/2024 15:23

I left an abusive relationship with a man and bought a flat alone, which I decorated entirely to my fairly feminine tastes. It also crossed my mind whether a man would want to live there while I was decorating. I did get married very shortly afterwards and still very happy years later, and my wife loves the decor.

BamberGirl · 26/04/2024 15:29

YES!!
I have two teen boys and did…it looks awesome. It lives in the Xbox room…I tell
them
its a reminder that’s it’s MY room 😂

CaptainMyCaptain · 26/04/2024 15:32

Definitely buy it!

peachescariad · 26/04/2024 15:36

Yes! I have a Cadbury purple, velvet sofa- 'tis a thing of beauty and everyone comments on it. It's my sofa and sitting on it is by invite only 😂

ap1999 · 26/04/2024 15:46

I have my eye on the pink one .. 👀

Haydenn · 26/04/2024 15:48

PiggieWig · 26/04/2024 15:49

Do it! If any fella objects to your sofa, he’s not the man for you.
