McDonald's is nothing like it is used to be.

To think McDonald's is rubbish now.
Burgers taste different now the buns taste/look different.
Yes I know its general crap fast food, but 10 years ago you would get a cheese quarter ponder and enjoy every minute, then maybe 20 mins later think you wish you hadn't as its full of rubbish.
But now its just awful.

Gawd. It would be thirty years since I tried their burgers and they were crap then. The sugar-loaded buns made them almost inedible.

EnglishBluebell · 26/04/2024 09:28

Ah, the eggs used to organic.

What I'm not a fan of is the ridiculous prices lately. For 2 medium meals delivered here, it's between £20-£25. Even with an Uber one membership (which is supposed to give free delivery but they still add £2-3 in 'service fees' 🙄)

pensione · 26/04/2024 09:28

I'm impressed you remember the difference of how it tasted 10 years ago!

You're probably right that it tasted better but a Filet o Fish is still a treat now and again. I low carb so only get to have it 2 or 3 times a year.

DrusillaPaddock · 26/04/2024 09:29

I think the fries taste much like they did 30+ years ago - though possibly a bit less salty. The hot apple pies taste much like they always did, and I think they are the same size 🍟🍔😁

Pro tip if you're low carb - get a fish finger happy meal Grin Same fish no bun. Though of course, no cheese but you get a toy, so, bonus!

putyourtitaway · 26/04/2024 09:36

I fucking love McDonald's and that's all I have to say.

Oh, that I'm also not poor according to another PP.

Better to customise the filet of fish to ‘no bun’, then you get all the trimmings. I used to do this with Big Macs.

I'll try that! Grin What do you get instead of fries?

Don’t get the fascination of McDs at all.

SwingTheMonkey · 26/04/2024 10:38

More poison in them than cigarettes!

Don’t eat it then?

Trulyme · 26/04/2024 10:48

I can’t remember what McDonald’s used to taste like but I know I used to like it and I don’t like it now.

I will now happily sit there and not have anything (or perhaps just a drink) whilst everyone is eating a big meal and not want any.

Either my taste buds have changed or the taste has become worse.

I know it’s much healthier than it was 10 years ago, so perhaps that’s why.

Flatleak · 26/04/2024 10:54

It so depends on the branch you use.

I got a large Big Mac meal last night - 4 mins from walking in to walking out food in hand! Tasted great, good portions, all compiled normally. Exactly as always. I've never had good missing or wrong.

I will agree it's expensive though - £9 that cost me!

VenetiaHallisWellPosh · 26/04/2024 11:10

Love a Sausage & Egg McMuffin.

But for burgers I tend to go elsewhere. Not Five Guys though, they are overpriced and tasteless.

Crucible · 26/04/2024 11:16

Breakfast muffin, porridge and a coffee always good.

GinBlossom94 · 26/04/2024 11:46

How is a fillet of fish the same as fish fingers?!

It's basically a giant fish finger.

Guavafish1 · 26/04/2024 11:48

It's always been rubbish!

It could be that it's you and your palate that have changed, not the burgers ...

Have you Five Guys? It's far superior to McD.

No, they changed cheeseburgers, quarter pounders and Big Macs a month or so ago. Different buns - now brioche style, changed how they do the onions and the cheese.

Aldi do frozen sausage patties that are pretty much exactly the same as the maccies ones. We made homemade sausage and egg McMuffins the other week and they were fucking delicious. I’m looking out for little egg rings to get the eggs just the right shape for the muffin for extra excellence.

I had a big mac last night which was exactly the same as ever, so maybe they've not done this everywhere?

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 26/04/2024 12:00

I seldom eat McDonalds but when I do, I haven't noticed any change at all? Everything tastes the same to me.

Wimpys though, that's another matter. I remember them from the 80s/90s and they were phenomenal. I still like them now but have had to try to blot out the original from my head and tastebuds. I miss them.

GinBlossom94 · 26/04/2024 12:09

@putyourtitaway it really isn't 😂

valjane · 26/04/2024 12:17

I think the wait probably depends where you buy from. I only ever buy McDonald's in a busy railway station where there's always a queue so the food always comes quickly and is hot.

CutthroatDruTheViolent · 26/04/2024 12:21

I don't think the food is any different, but the service is now appalling.

Every one near us has revamped the restaurant to basically be a place for Uber Eats to collect from. So, if I order on the app for collection, going thru the drive thru means every time I have to park up. Parking up and going in means every time I have to remind them I'm there. And 9/10 I'm missing something - generally it's a pretty fundamental part of the meal as well.

I went in there a couple of Sundays ago - we'd just got back from holiday so had nothing in, I took a child with me to help me carry the food back - one lady came in, she'd been waiting and was missing two of her three meals. A man came in, he'd gone through the drive thru and waited 20 minutes to get his food. We waited 25 minutes and they'd clearly forgotten about us.

FanofLeaves · 26/04/2024 12:48

I wish McDonald’s would stick to what it is and what people like really but they obviously have a lot of competition in the way of burgers so they’ve ‘poshed up’ with of brioche burgers and the more premium ones they bring out every now and then. It was never what I went to McDonald’s for in the first place, though, so I do think they’ve lost something by going down that road. So much pricier too.
