I had to call the police today about my stbxh. There were various issues but the main one today (well, over the last 10 days) has been him hiding my keys. So I can't leave the flat. I've eaten nothing but shitty white bread.

I called the police because I didn't know what else to do. They very helpfully came around and told me I should sleep in the neighbouring park because my husband is lead tenant. Sleep in the park with a black eye, a nose bleed and no access to housing. Because that wouldn't make people vulnerable at all.

Should there not be a bit more help ffs

Disgusting of them and so sorry this id happening to you if u can Contact womens aid

Bellyblueboy · 06/04/2024 00:18

The police suggested a vulnerable victim of domestic violence should sleep rough?

contact your local womens aid now. Take the police officers name and number and report them.

I hope this isn’t true

TheShellBeach · 06/04/2024 00:22

I'm so sorry this has happened to you.
Contact Women's Aid for advice, and make a complaint about the police who told you to sleep rough.

Idontjetwashthefucker · 06/04/2024 00:28

Sorry, you have been beaten and they advised you to sleep in the park? Really? Fuck me

BettyShagter · 06/04/2024 00:29

Which police force was this and did they break the door down?

It's true. I have a friend who is pretty high up in Women's Aid so will talk to her tomorrow.

I'm capable of sorting myself, I just worry if this is the general approach towards DV victims

No it's not, it's disgraceful and when you feel ready (if you feel ready) report them.

Bristol. Seriously thinking of making a complaint.

Who the fuck is voting unreasonable????

WarshipRocinante · 06/04/2024 00:35

They saw you had been beaten. And you still live with him. And they didn’t arrest him? It doesn’t matter if he is lead tenant, they can arrest him and refuse to bail him to an address he shares with his victim. Or they can arrest him and then refer you to get you housed elsewhere.

Who were these police? Where are you? Have you got their names? You need to call up and register a complaint and you should also email your MP tonight.

Queijo · 06/04/2024 00:36

Are you safe right now and have somewhere to stay? I’m in Bristol if you need anything?

ithinkitsdone · 06/04/2024 00:37

I recently rang the police for a friend who had to get out of her house because of abuse at 10pm. They suggested women's aid or she go hang out in the bus station until housing services opened. I was gobsmacked that they didn't even suggest taking a statement until women's aid followed it up.

sunnyday98 · 06/04/2024 00:37

I'm so sorry for what you've been through OP.

Bristol is the same police force that featured i. The Ch 4 programme To catch a copper, they were horrific towards a suicidal woman absolutely shocking

I'd probably Tweet Bristol police and ask them why they'd suggest something illegal like sleeping in a park anyway, let alone suggest it to a woman who's been locked in a house for 10 days (?) and has suffered injuries.

IamaRevenant · 06/04/2024 00:42

BettyShagter · 06/04/2024 00:37

They waited outside for about 1.5 hrs ambushed him and confiscated his keys when he got home. This isn't the part I have such an issue with

Yes because I would absolutely make up some random story. I'm not even worried about myself, I'm worried about people who are more vulnerable than I am

I can't get my head around this.

Were you locked in, or couldn't go out because you were unable to lock up?

If the first, they arrive to find you falsely imprisoned, assaulted, in your own home, and the person responsible has just arrived - and they do absolutely nothing, just leave you with him while they wave bye bye and skip off down the road?!

In our flat we have a key fob. Without the fob you can't let yourself into the main gate or our actual block. So I could get out but not back in

And you told them he'd beaten you up and they did nothing?
