I’ve just given my 2 year old a desert and just realised it contains alcohol

Just bought a lemon desert from Lidls we’ve all sat down to share it after dinner and half way through thought i could taste alcohol so checked the ingredients and it does contain it. I’m freaking out. He’s only had a tablespoon worth of a fair sized pack but I am freaking out and feel like absolute shot 😢 posting here for traffic.

😂

He'll be fine.

Give him a few more spoons and he'll sleep well.

FionnulaTheCooler · 02/04/2024 18:10

He will be fine, it's a tiny amount. People used to give kids "gripe water" which is basically gin a couple of generations ago.

GoodVibesHere · 02/04/2024 18:10

It's fine! My DDs had tiramisu when they were tiny, they loved it.

NuffSaidSam · 02/04/2024 18:10

Why are you freaking out?

DartmoorDoughnut · 02/04/2024 18:11

He’s only had a teaspoon and will be absolutely fine, other than tiramisu I wouldn’t have thought any desert was boozy! Particularly not a lemon one. Try not to worry!

Aquamarine1029 · 02/04/2024 18:12

Why on earth would you be "freaking out?" It's a tiny bit of alcohol, not anthrax. Good grief.

Llistamista · 02/04/2024 18:12

Contains alcohol doesn’t mean it’s alcoholic. Does it have a warning not for under 18’s and an ABV %? No? It’s not alcoholic

Purplecatshopaholic · 02/04/2024 18:13

Good grief, chill. What on earth are you ‘freaking out’ about - what is going to happen? It’s a tiny amount, and he’ll be fine.

MassageForLife · 02/04/2024 18:13

I used to live far up north.

One night when I was a child, we had relations over. I think it was a birthday.

The northern lights came out, so the adults went outside to see them.

My brother, aged two and a half, drank half a glass of vodka and orange, in the five minutes they were out. He was fine. He slept late, but he was fine.

I think the tbsp of dessert is not going to be an issue. Don't worry.

Hermittrismegistus · 02/04/2024 18:13

Come off it. If you really though you had caused your child harm you would be seeking medical advice, not posting on MN about 'freaking out'.

Mumoftwo1312 · 02/04/2024 18:13

I'm confused by the vote.

Yanbu to have given a small amount of this accidentally to your 2yo. He'll be fine.

Yabu to be freaking out. Calm down, there'll be many worse mishaps

ButterflyKu · 02/04/2024 18:14

It’ll be fine

TwilightSkies · 02/04/2024 18:16

He must be a PFB!

Alargeoneplease89 · 02/04/2024 18:17

Jesus.

MyDHusedtobeanMP · 02/04/2024 18:17

It will fine. The amount of alcohol will be tiny.

PotteringAlonggotkickedoutandhadtoreregister · 02/04/2024 18:18

How much alcohol do you reckons he’s consumed in 1 teaspoons of a Lidl lemon dessert?

I suspect there’s more in a glass of orange juice you’ve left out on the side and you wouldn’t think twice about that!

My DB was a dreadful sleeper and drove my parents to utter despair in the way that only a toddler still wide awake and full of beans at 2am can.

The GP recommended a few drops of brandy in his last bottle at night!

greengreyblue · 02/04/2024 18:19

Don’t worry! My two used to love Aldi tiramisu and then I tasted it and thought hmmmmm? It did contain alcohol but it won’t be much otherwise you’d be age checked! Relax.

AzureNewt · 02/04/2024 18:19

He’ll be fine for now but the real worry is that it’ll be a gateway dessert.

Chypre · 02/04/2024 18:19

So.... no rum & raisin ice cream for the kid either? No Christmas pudding even (brandy) ?

What?? Is that true? I used to give mine gripe water! Off to Google

greengreyblue · 02/04/2024 18:19

@AzureNewt 😂

Toastednut · 02/04/2024 18:20

Do not worry - I was given brandy in my milk bottle regularly as a tiny baby to 'aid sleep' 😂

A tiny accidental gulp of alcohol won't do any harm. Please don't worry at all, your little one will be absolutely fine.

Also massive hug - it's horrible to feel panicked about children.

As a side note, I was given alcohol with my Christmas dinner every year from around age 6 🤣

marlfield · 02/04/2024 18:20

Ah yes, the "good grief" brigade are out to offer their usual help and support to a worried parent.

OP, as others have said, they will be fine with such a small amount so try not to fret.
