I’ve just given my 2 year old a desert and just realised it contains alcohol

Just bought a lemon desert from Lidls we’ve all sat down to share it after dinner and half way through thought i could taste alcohol so checked the ingredients and it does contain it. I’m freaking out. He’s only had a tablespoon worth of a fair sized pack but I am freaking out and feel like absolute shot 😢 posting here for traffic.

@Choochuw Did you like sucking all the “cider” out till the lollies went white?!

Tracker1234 · 02/04/2024 19:17

Blimey..freaking out. Some people have a lot of time on their hands to worry about things like this…

Llistamista · 02/04/2024 19:21

@AzureNewt it is NOT 1.8% ABV.

1.8% of its contents are alcohol. Very different. It is not an alcoholic dessert anymore than a glass of orange juice is.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 02/04/2024 19:21

Don't worry, eiher the sand will absorb it or else the scorching sun will evaporate the alcohol.

Rosesanddaisies1 · 02/04/2024 19:22

Why are you freaking out? It’s nothing.

Fightingtobepositive · 02/04/2024 19:24

Hearing all these stories has helped so much. Thanks all, even the eye rollers ;)
DP has just taken him to bed… I’ll probably be checking in on him all night but all these comments have made me feel less hysterical!

He could have had a tablespoon full of straight vodka and probably still have been fine. 😜

Fightingtobepositive · 02/04/2024 19:25

@Llistamista what do you mean?

why the comparison to orange juice?

Op you need to seek help for anxiety. Checking in on your child all night because he ate a spoonful of a non alcoholic Lidl dessert that has a tiny amount of alcohol as an ingredient is not normal or healthy

meegsmalone · 02/04/2024 19:26

What's all the fuss about? Lol people used to put brandy on their kids gums when they were teething

Llistamista · 02/04/2024 19:26

What do I mean about what?

Mnetcurious · 02/04/2024 19:26

Chill out, not a problem.

CagneyAndLazy · 02/04/2024 19:28

From what I can see, a banana is around 0.2% alcohol by volume.

If the dessert is 1.8% ABV, the alcohol in a teaspoon of the dessert is the same as 9 teaspoons of banana.

You wouldn't be panicking about him having 9 teaspoons of banana, would you?

Fightingtobepositive · 02/04/2024 19:28

@Llistamista i’ve edited my post.

She is making fun of your spelling mistake. You called it a desert; the big sandy thing lile the Sahara.

The pudding is a dessert.

mrlistersgelfbride · 02/04/2024 19:28

I gave my 18 month old daughter rum and raising ice cream, I thought it was just flavouring until I checked the ingredients! She really liked it 🙈 and had a couple of bowls over a week or two 😂
She's 6 now, absolutely fine.
I wouldn't worry OP.
It's a miniscule amount of alcohol.

Fightingtobepositive · 02/04/2024 19:29

@CagneyAndLazy I'm so confused of all the comparison to fruit. Am I missing something?

AzureNewt · 02/04/2024 18:19

He’ll be fine for now but the real worry is that it’ll be a gateway dessert.

🤣🤣🤣🤣

KreedKafer · 02/04/2024 19:31

Even if he ate the entire dessert to himself, it still wouldn't be enough alcohol to have any effect on him. It's absolutely fine! Don't worry in the slightest.

Llistamista · 02/04/2024 19:31

I’m not laughing at a spelling mistake?

orange juice is alcoholic. As are almost all natural fruit substances.

Fightingtobepositive · 02/04/2024 19:31

@WarshipRocinante 😂🙈 oh dear. The message was so rushed I haven’t re-read over anything I’ve sent :0

Yes, lots of 'natural' foods contain alcohol!

Crowgirl · 02/04/2024 19:31

Awww people are being harsh. Yes it's fine but it's understandable have a little freak out. Someone tried to give my kid tiramisu the other day - though it was the coffee content I was concerned about there (they're bigger though.)

Fightingtobepositive · 02/04/2024 19:32

@Llistamista I had no idea!

When DD was a baby my Gran recommended dipping her dummy in brandy if she wasn’t sleeping 😂 Must have been something she did with my mum, and she lived to tell the tale.
