To think there should be an English section on here?

AIBU to think that as there are sections for Scottish, Welsh and Irish posters on this site so why not one for the English and those who live in England?

Indeed. The English are dreadfully underrepresented 🙄

LittleWeed2 · 31/03/2024 20:43

There’s about 5m Scots, 5m Irish and ?1 m Welsh do that leaves about 59 m English - I don’t think you need a special section as most posters ARE English already.

x2boys · 31/03/2024 20:43

I think ,it was because it was always assumed that posters were English that ,posters in Ireland and other parts of the British Isles wanted their own sections ?( before anyone starts I know the Republic of Ireland isn,t part f of the UK.

Evaka · 31/03/2024 20:43

The vast majority of posts and posters are from/living in/about England so it would be totally unnecessary.

And it has started....

Just somewhere to talk about living there, places to visit etc.

Not needed. What would we even discuss.

BriceNobeslovesMurielHeslop · 31/03/2024 20:46

Don’t the separate boards tend towards things that only affect the specific area anyway?

Apparently MN isnt an English site. I don't see why it can't be possible. Might stop Scots moaning that English people presume this or that about the rest of the UK.

I dunno OP, sounds dreadfully far right and racist of you.

(Sarcasm, but there's going to be people claiming that in all seriousness soon)

So your gripe is more anti-scottish then?
I think it would make more sense to have NE Mumsnetters, Manchester Mumsnetters etc.

thenightsky · 31/03/2024 20:48

Maybe regions of England?

Who's stopping you discussing these things? I've been here since before the Irish bit, always enjoyed reading about England. I find it interesting band educational.

But honestly OP, that's exactly what mumsnet is! It's mostly English residents/citizens advising each other about life/parenting in England. Can I ask what you currently think is lacking?

Gowlett · 31/03/2024 20:51

MN is the most English place I’ve ever been…
And I lived in England for a very long time!

CaptainCarrot · 31/03/2024 20:51

Would you also like to see a White History Month or International Men's Day? 🙄

No. Might stop the gripe that English presume that everything is the same elsewhere (I don't anyway). I don't see why not though? Ideas for places to visit, etc. Chats on things that are different here like laws and schools.

Love this 😂

Same reason we can't have an English Government

Why pick on Scots specifically then?

BriceNobeslovesMurielHeslop · 31/03/2024 20:54

@WithACatLikeTread well suggest it on Site Stuff then. There’s an area of the site specifically for suggestions, as opposed to starting a slightly goady thread.

Are Scottish/Welsh putting themselves in the same category as some kind of racial minority now?

You seem like you're just being goady tbh. Pity about you having to tolerate the views of other nationalities. passes the smelling salts

You can do that without having a special section.

And in any case, anyone can post anywhere. MNETTERS without children is a case in point.

Nothing is lacking but why can't there be a regional bit for the English? I am not being serious serious by the way but if we are discussing something relevant to England for example the new 15 hours funding it might stop people piping up with "not in Scotland or Wales or NI". You mention representation. We don't even have a proper parliament in England!
