To think there should be an English section on here?

AIBU to think that as there are sections for Scottish, Welsh and Irish posters on this site so why not one for the English and those who live in England?

Seriously, you're like a parody now. Nothing stopping you from petitioning MN for a secret English only section. Knock yourself out.

Oh give over. I didn't say it needed to be secret.

I was being facetious. And I'd say you knew that.

We don’t care, hen! Honestly do what you like. You clearly don’t like the Scottish for whatever reason but just ask for your board.

I lived and worked in England for a while, I had a great time. Most of us honestly do not give it a second thought.

I didn't say I don't like the Scots but giving the Scots as the example as they are always the ones piping up it is different there. I don't hate them!

As a non-English person I vote yes please! Then all those bloody "what makes you middle class?" threads can get moved into there and hidden.

I don't want them either. 🤣

If you are making a disability joke then that says something about you. I am actually disabled.

Stop trying to be a victim. You aren’t.

I was once the OP of a thread during Covid, where I had visited a friend. At the time you couldn’t visit people in England, but you could in Scotland.

I got absolutely crucified, every second poster was berating me for visiting someone, despite me clarifying in my second post. However, it wasn’t really a Scottish or English issue - it was just background detail. I wouldn’t have posted in Scotsnet because it didn’t seem relevant. I think even with fully separate boards there would still be episodes like that (although hopefully not quite as heated).

instaready · 31/03/2024 21:51

Mumsnet is an English site. Everything it does is English. You have all the Englishness ready and available at your fingertips. It is because you are very English you don't seem to realise exactly how English it is.

Obv we all like it which is why we're on it.

HTH

wutheringkites · 31/03/2024 20:58

You're right. We should have one for Londoners too because I feel like I never hear from them either.

I would love a Londoners board!

We can talk all day about how other cities are dirty dangerous shitholes, and how when we visited them everybody was rude and unfriendly and kicked us in the legs just for saying 'excuse me'.

Then we can discuss what we ought to wear to go to a shopping centre/gig/McDonald's drive thru in other cities so that we don't 'stand out' and people will think we are actual bona fide residents of Huddersfield/Portsmouth/Coventry/Salford/Kendal/Ipswich/Warrington/Maidenhead/*insert name of wherever 😀

Nah you can't insinuate I have special needs and think it is fine. Bye.

I got accused of lying about being in a supermarket at 8pm on a Sunday, getting married outside on a beach and the Schools being off at the end of June for the summer holiday. This is because the majority of posters are English so the main boards are already ‘Englandnet’

The victim card again. English isn’t a minority. You aren’t a victim by being hard of understanding and humourless.

You have no idea about the issues of other posters. We don’t all parade our problems.

I’m done with your blinkered idiocy.

Maybe I should have put "semi serious" in the title but it has been quite amusing to see how quickly it has taken for anti English spite to rise to the surface!

I don't get the anti English on here at all . I posted as an English person and noted my reason for being against it, it's just not needed.

CaptainCarrot · 31/03/2024 20:51

Would you also like to see a White History Month or International Men's Day? 🙄

There is an international men's day. In November I think.

apcavcwtf · 31/03/2024 23:03

Or a heterosexual section maybe?

Snugglemonkey · 31/03/2024 23:03

Paccamacca · 31/03/2024 20:53

Same reason we can't have an English Government

We have an English government. It trumps all the devolved ones. They are the wankers that fuck everything up continuously.

Snugglemonkey · 31/03/2024 23:07

Comedycook · 31/03/2024 20:59

Willyoujustbequiet · 31/03/2024 23:10

Ultravox · 31/03/2024 21:03

Absolutely! I’m Scottish and i think there should be representation for everyone. English people have a distinct identity and culture that should be celebrated.

To be fair there's a lot of us are mixed and there are huge cultural overlaps. For example, lowland Scots have more in common genetically, historically, linguistically etc..with people in Northern England than they do with highlanders.

I don't think the differences between us are as great as some seem to think

Snugglemonkey · 31/03/2024 23:13

WithACatLikeTread · 31/03/2024 21:23

So why isn't there one then? What reason do you object to it? Why don't we have devolution then?

Because it is all about you. Because you are the centre of the fucking universe. Because you do not need any more attention!!!

ChristmasFluff · 01/04/2024 07:20

I am English. We don't need representation, because Mumsnet (and the UK) is English-centric already.

This is a goady thread but even were it not, you've additionally shot yourself in the foot about the need for the board anyway by posting it in AIBU rather than in 'Site Stuff'. You've shown that most people don't post anywhere except AIBU, so no point in yet another unused board.

And as you are disabled, you will understand that 'equality' is not equity, surely?

To think there should be an English section on here?
LiterallyOnFire · 01/04/2024 08:02

For local issues, there are the county boards. The problem is they are, if anything, too specific and so they don't get the traffic.

Maybe regional boards would be an idea for people who want local chat?

LiterallyOnFire · 01/04/2024 08:10

I mean London/non London is a big divide. Just simple things like Londoners assuming there's good public transport everywhere. (I say this as an expat Londoner myself.

London really is its own universe and the population of London is similar to Scotland, Wales and NI combined.

I think you've copped it because you've been assumed to be making an identity politics claim, OP, but if I'm understanding, you're after some localism?

Lastarse · 01/04/2024 08:23

So mumsnet isn’t English enough ?! As want 100% English perhaps just put that in your post ‘English only responses’. Sorted.

Paccamacca · 01/04/2024 08:49

Snugglemonkey · 31/03/2024 23:03

We have an English government. It trumps all the devolved ones. They are the wankers that fuck everything up continuously.

You are confused. We don't have an English Government.....the Government at Westminster is UK & NI
