To think there should be an English section on here?

AIBU to think that as there are sections for Scottish, Welsh and Irish posters on this site so why not one for the English and those who live in England?

What will we discuss? Who's local Wilko's has closed down and where to get the best fish and chips?

Ultravox · 31/03/2024 21:03

Absolutely! I’m Scottish and i think there should be representation for everyone. English people have a distinct identity and culture that should be celebrated.

DanielGault · 31/03/2024 20:58

Well tbh they're more of a persecuted minority than the OP.

You must be joking 🤡 This is exactly what I’m talking about. Try telling a black person or muslim in this country how “persecuted” you are. Why are some people so desperate to be some kind of victim?

AgnesX · 31/03/2024 21:03

Which bit di you want to represent exactly? If you live in Cumbria you're going to have a lot of different experiences to Londoners etc.

Bs0u416d · 31/03/2024 21:03

PonyPatter44 · 31/03/2024 21:02

I don't think it makes you racist as such, OP but it does show you up as being a bit hard of thinking.

Hard of thinking is generous.

ScentlessAprentice · 31/03/2024 21:04

If you want an England board, ask MNHQ for it. Just like everyone else who has a specific board for their country/interest/whatever has done. Surely you don't expect them to magically read your mind?

CaptainCarrot · 31/03/2024 21:05

When I was a child, I used to ask my mother why we had Mother's Day and Father's Day but not Children's Day. She would always answer, "Because every day is Children's Day."* I think this is analogous to the situation on Mumsnet WRT England.

(*Yes, I know there technically is a holiday for children. But I think my mother was a wise woman.)

BashfulClam · 31/03/2024 21:05

CaptainCarrot · 31/03/2024 20:51

Would you also like to see a White History Month or International Men's Day? 🙄

International men’s day is in November so it does exist.

Just general stuff. Places to live, tourist areas advice. Just the general chit chat you get in the forums I have mentioned.

Seriously think some here have over thought my intentions with this thread. It is only fairness to represent every area of the UK.

seem like you're just being goady tbh. Pity about you having to tolerate the views of other nationalities. passes the smelling salts

I don't understand the need for an English board, but if anyone's goading there, it's you @DanielGault

I disagree, I didn't ask the stupid question. And answers were invited so I gave one. The vast, vast majority of posts are English based, so it seems churlish to begrudge Craicnet or its Welsh or Scottish equivalents. The smaller country boards were created so that country specific posts/questions wouldn't get lost in the main board, that would be much less of a problem for English posts in general.

Yes, someone else pointed this out. I can't imagine why the powers that be determined such a holiday was necessary, but there you have it. In any case, it isn't anywhere approaching the global significance of International Women's Day which is an important holiday in many countries (and should be important everywhere IMO).

But you could ask this in a your tread title??? 'best place to visit in Somerset' for example. I'm sure plenty of our fellow countryman would have a valid opinion on that. Infact, if you wanted gastropub advice for Cumbria, I bet our pals in the Scottish borders would have better advice than the English folk of Kent. You don't make any sense. Weird hill to die on OP.

Mementomorissons · 31/03/2024 21:14

I think it could be helpful and avoid some confusion I've seen developing in threads here before. Occasionally I see people writing passive aggressive comments accusing OPs of lying or being wrong when actually the two posters are from different countries in the UK and are simultaneously referring to different country's laws (eg. NHS access, tax, laws, etc)

Yes but why isn't there a specific place the same as the rest of the UK? Surely the Scots can just post a thread for the best hotel in Edinburgh or the Welsh in Cardiff? We are treated differently. Probably should have several regional bits too considering how big the country is.

It isn't a serious thread anyway which some have taken as a racist one. 🙄

Well done for realising that.

“Treated differently”. What bollocks. 🙄

But isn't that a structural issue for mumsnet? They could creat such a space if you really wanted one. I just think it would be utterly pointless because mumsnet is overwhelmingly English. When you post, your posting to mostly English people. Because most people in the UK are English. Overwhelmingly. Which is why the minority posters might want a niche place to ask more specific, demographic specific questions.

Goodness, I'm Welsh live in England for context. I don't think any English person could ever comprehend how English centric this country is, including the media. A lot of people use England when they mean the UK / GB. It's shocking.

WearyAuldWumman · 31/03/2024 21:19

I'm Scottish. Seems like a reasonable suggestion to me.

Maybe it would stop the "it is different here" comments though. I will ask the site.
