Husband stole kids' Easter eggs

Not sure if this is unreasonable, my friends seem to agree with me but wanted an outsider's opinion...

I'll try to keep this short.

Last night my hubby went out to the pub while I stayed home with the kids. I fancied a night out myself- haven't had one in months- but didn't have the option since he wanted to see the lads. He said he would go only have a few rounds and be home by about 10:00-10:30pm, but stumbled in at about 1. I was already in bed, and woke up to the slam of the front door but fell back asleep shortly after he came in. This morning I woke up around 6am to set up the kids Easter egg hunt, but to my surprise the cupboard was empty. I then found a huge heap of cardboard and tin foil beside the sofa. All 4 Easter eggs- 2 each for the kids- were demolished, along with brown smears all over our new beige sofa. LIVID!
It's not the first time he's done this too! My 7 year old daughter's Christmas chocolate disappeared late one night, luckily with enough time to replace before Xmas day. But this time, I've had no chance to.
My kids came downstairs so excited this morning but their faces absolutely dropped as I told them what happened. My husband was hungover and dead asleep in bed until midday, when he got up I explained to him how upset he's made the kids. He didn't even bat an eyelid before he went to make his coffee.

I've asked him to stay at his mums for the next few nights, or until he replaces the chocolate (which he's refusing to do). AIBU?

Wow, what a nasty arsehole

Lovemusic82 · 31/03/2024 15:40

Mmmm19 · 31/03/2024 15:41

That’s awful. Would never do anything so nasty even when really drunk.

SheepAndSword · 31/03/2024 15:41

Seriously greedy and thoughtless of him

Couldyounot · 31/03/2024 15:42

What a prince among men

RachelRaccoon · 31/03/2024 15:43

That’s evil! How could stolen chocolate from kids not tasted like ashes in his mouth, drunk or not. If he ceases to care about his kids when drunk, and not even penitent in the morning??
I’m so sorry for you and your children, OP.

Bootskates · 31/03/2024 15:44

Well he's a selfish twat isn't he? Even if I could excuse him eating the eggs he should definitely be trying to make it up to them today. Has he not even said sorry?

Hope his teeth fall out.

Nothingbutafartache · 31/03/2024 15:44

I'd dump him for that.

NatNoo · 31/03/2024 15:45

YABU. Everyone does things they regret when they’re drunk. Surely you have a shop locally where you can get some replacements.

WarshipRocinante · 31/03/2024 15:46

He’s refusing to replace the eggs? It’s bad enough that he did it, but he’s refusing to replace them? Why? He could have ran out and did it and the kids could have had an egg hunt this afternoon. What’s he actually had to say for himself?

AmiShitsaline · 31/03/2024 15:46

I don’t believe anyone would do this

Grapewrath · 31/03/2024 15:46

Ugh how embarrassing and unattractive. He sounds awful

Magnastorm · 31/03/2024 15:46

YANBU. What a prick.

She asked him to. He refused. And you don’t steal your kids Easter eggs during the night before Easter so they can’t even be replaced before the kids get up. How shit a parent are you that you need to be told that?

shoppingshamed · 31/03/2024 15:47

He sounds like he has the self control of a toddler, wouldn't be someone Id want to wasting time with

JimBobsWife · 31/03/2024 15:47

Does he have form for selfish behaviour? I just can't imagine my DH doing this. Most reasonable adults would agree this is horrible behaviour.

@Lovemusic82 I'm actually considering that, so disappointed 🤬

The man doesn't regret it and is refusing to replace them though.

I don't understand why the OP could think she is being unreasonable. I imagine this man is awful in a variety of ways and everyone would be happier if/when he fucks off.

JJathome · 31/03/2024 15:48

Wow, what a horrible selfish little man he is. Take the kids out and buy them some Easter treats.

beautybabe44 · 31/03/2024 15:48

Disgusting behaviour! Can't believe he'd do such a thing and not even apologise to the kids this morning! Poor kids, hope they're alright, and the same for you mama. Sending love to you and the kids, and hope your husband comes to his senses soon!

Pinkbonbon · 31/03/2024 15:49

OMG

I'd fucking leave him op.
He's absolutely horrible.

It sounds like he may even be doing this out of spite and jealousy of the kids? There are narcissistic sorts that do this. They ruin holidays because they hate other people's happiness. And they 'punish' people they feel are taking the attention away from them. Which kids on easter, would.

Either way though, his lack of empathy and shame the next day would have ended it for me. He's vile.

Apologise to your kids and make it clear what daddy did was wrong and that we do not stand for people treating us like that. That he has hurt you too by damaging your sofa and not apologising so you've asked him to leave. (Dont let them think you made him go only because of them incase they feel guilty).

Focus on having a fun day with your kids.
But don't have him back. I don't even think if he apologised now it makes any difference as he clear wasn't sorry. So it would only be to trick you into keeping him.

Hotdogity · 31/03/2024 15:49

Even if he got pissed and are all the chocolate, the fact he is digging his heels in and not popping out to get some more is just shitty. I’d say he can stay at his mums but if the kids don’t get an egg hunt by six, fuck it he can stay there indefinitely

NatNoo · 31/03/2024 15:45

There were next to no eggs left in the shops yesterday and as hardly any are allowed to open today id be amazed to find eggs anywhere now

Id be willing to ber you'd have to go a long way to find many mothers who'd behave as he is

arethereanyleftatall · 31/03/2024 15:51

Omg!!!

So. The drunken chocolate eating I could forgive. If he was remorse in the morning and rushed straight out to fix.

But his reaction this morning. Utterly unforgivable.

I take it they're not his dc? Because if they are, he sure as shit does not love them the same way I love mine.

socks1107 · 31/03/2024 15:52

That's just awful. He's a prat
