Tony’s chocolonely egg is not an egg

Aibu to feel ripped off. Square box makes you think you have a normal egg. Actually you have a flat egg. An ellipse. A squished egg. All the pictures are face on so you don’t get to see the profile from the side, which would show it’s not a proper egg.

Kids asked why they didn’t get proper eggs.

Also why isn’t it wrapped in foil or paper or anything else? Very annoying. But delicious.

ImWatching · 31/03/2024 13:04

There have been loads of videos and egg reviews in the run up to Easter. I was thrilled when I first saw they had an egg but, after seeing how little chocolate there was, decided against it!

How old are your kids to ask that though? Why wouldn’t you just laugh it off and say what a funny shape it is as they opened them?

I've never tried this chocolate! Is it any good?

I was very underwhelmed with it. Tastes like 1980s Yorkie.

FarmGirl78 · 31/03/2024 13:08

I don't see Tony's as being a 'childrens' brand of chocolate or confectionery, so I wouldn't have necessarily expected an egg aimed at Children.

Yes it's very good. No palm oil in it which makes it my preferred chocolate.

Seems an odd choice for children though as it's a very ethically heavy brand.

Alalalalalongalalalalalonglonglilong · 31/03/2024 13:09

I read it is flatter than normal to avoid breakage in transit. Maybe they use less processing and avoid ingredients that would help an egg stay solid? The description i read said a hollow egg but flatter than usual, so does that mean there are 2 layers of chocolate or just one? If it's just one that's really a rip off!

WittiestUsernameEver · 31/03/2024 13:09

They aren't kids eggs.

Alalalalalongalalalalalonglonglilong · 31/03/2024 13:10

Can you include a photo OP? Or is it all gone?

LividAA · 31/03/2024 13:11

I’m sick of Toneys.

Have all the ethics you like, but when your chocolate is crazy-paved, you can’t break it into bits and it spoils the experience.

I have recently thrown some away because I just couldn’t be arsed with it, and that’s unheard of.

I like it. It doesn't have palm oil so it tastes a bit different. It's really expensive though!

StormingNorman · 31/03/2024 13:13

That’s so disappointing! I only bought the box of eggs as I wanted all the flavours but was really excited about the big egg.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 31/03/2024 13:14

I would be cross about this too. I saw them in the supermarket and the box made it look like an actual egg, not a bar in an unnecessarily big box!

Notimeforaname · 31/03/2024 13:14

It should say it on the box op.
Try to pick them up a real egg today or tomorrow to make up for it.

What a terrible waste.... You could have used it for something else...

It's easy to break into pieces

My kids did this too! Couldn’t bite it or break it so they gave up which is very unlike them.

Axx · 31/03/2024 13:16

What? Like an oval of flat chocolate and no hollow egg? Easter Confused

Mayhemmumma · 31/03/2024 13:17

I got the flat egg too! Made me laugh..didn't think much more about it.
I think of it as adult chocolate.

GHSP · 31/03/2024 13:18

Well half of it has disappeared. But this shows the cross section: normal Easter egg has circular cross section, this has quite a squashed ellipse.

i got it because it didn’t have palm oil in. I’ll choose a different brand next year.

I tried Tony's and thought it was rank (it's also not as ethical as their endless drumbanging would have you believe). I like the Aldi chocolate and they do lots of palm oil free ones, as do Lidl, I think.

The best of all is Lucocoa, and it's made in Bermondsey 😀

Btw the chocolate is good - I always get the salted caramel bar as the snack on a Tesco meal deal.

TheIceQween · 31/03/2024 13:21

What a let down! I didn’t get the big egg but got these for the kiddies (see pic) I’m worried now that when they open them there’s just 12 little flat faced egg shaped pieces 😂

TheYearOfSmallThings · 31/03/2024 13:21

Oh actually that doesn't look too bad - I was picturing a flat bar just shaped like an egg. You still get to crack into that one.

TheIceQween · 31/03/2024 13:21

Ooops…

Tony chocolonely are always disappointing. Why change the habit of a lifetime
