Tony’s chocolonely egg is not an egg

Aibu to feel ripped off. Square box makes you think you have a normal egg. Actually you have a flat egg. An ellipse. A squished egg. All the pictures are face on so you don’t get to see the profile from the side, which would show it’s not a proper egg.

Kids asked why they didn’t get proper eggs.

Looks good to me, I'd be happy to help with eating it if you're unhappy with the shape!

shows the flatness but it’s really thick? You just cannot please some people!

This was the only picture I could find that wasn't front on. I'd be disappointed too.

Can’t beat Lindt rabbits. Thick chocolate, no extra packaging so you can see exactly what size it is

youngestisapsycho · 31/03/2024 19:12

Egg and 5 small eggs… certainly not worth £12. The Cadbury’s ones with bits in the egg were same price… they’re all way overpriced.

I've never tried this chocolate! Is it any good?

No it’s rubbish. It’s like that cheap Kinnerton stuff.

I tried Tony's and thought it was rank (it's also not as ethical as their endless drumbanging would have you believe). I like the Aldi chocolate and they do lots of palm oil free ones, as do Lidl, I think.

The best of all is Lucocoa, and it's made in Bermondsey 😀

Yes, Aldi have some palm oil free chocolate. Lidl too.

I wanted to like Tony's chocolate but I ended up chucking out the one bar I bought. And I never do that with chocolate! It tasted like cheap cooking chocolate and was so hard that I was worried about my veneers when biting into it. I also didn't like the irregular shapes in the bar. Give me good old squares! I never bought it again and I'm not sure if my Tesco still carries it.

Fullfatandfortyplus · 31/03/2024 19:32

Nah don’t buy them ever as they don’t use ‘advent’ in their advent calendars or ‘Easter’ on their eggs and it annoys me.

I think it’s better than Cadburys etc but not as nice as a good quality single origin bar, bit too sweet for me. I would say it’s the standard of English, standard chocolate bars were (never as nice as continental chocolate) before they were all ruined with palm oil, less cocoa in the last decade.

silverneedle · 31/03/2024 19:52

I am enjoying this Waitrose milk chocolate bar, reasonably priced for a better bar, not too sweet. Lidl and Aldi are too sweet for me.

Clearly I'm in the minority as I was rather pleased with my salted caramel egg. Although I didn't pay for it, so maybe that's the difference!

dessyh · 31/03/2024 20:02

It's 50p - £1 more expensive than Cadbury's for the 180g bars depending on supermarket offers. Tastes like proper chocolate. Creamy hazelnut is so good. Eating the egg right now. £12 is a rip off if that's how much it cost though.

Willmafrockfit · 31/03/2024 20:22

i had a full toney egg,
i didnt really like it

RickyGervaislovesdogs · 31/03/2024 20:23

FarmGirl78 · 31/03/2024 13:08

I don't see Tony's as being a 'childrens' brand of chocolate or confectionery, so I wouldn't have necessarily expected an egg aimed at Children.

^^^ this

whynotwhatknot · 31/03/2024 20:23

never tried it seems a bit love or hate it

didnt even get an easter egg

Winifredduck · 31/03/2024 20:25

Yanbu. My son was v disappointed when on one day of his Tony's advent calendar there was no chocolate but a discount code.

Alwaysalwayscold · 31/03/2024 20:27

This makes me feel better about the fact that I really wanted this egg (even basically asked specifically for this one from DH) and didn't get it!

DdraigGoch · 31/03/2024 20:28

Mynewnameis · 31/03/2024 17:21

Not buying the brand again after advent calendar disappointment

What about the advent calendar?

Mrstwiddle · 31/03/2024 20:31

Their chocolate is mediocre at best, even though Cadburys has gone downhill a lot, it still tastes better.

Meowandthen · 31/03/2024 20:37

Hoppinggreen · 31/03/2024 14:53

Or tell them to eat their chocolate and get over it

Quite. I fail to see the problem. It’s just a slightly different shape. Big deal.

Meowandthen · 31/03/2024 20:38

Fullfatandfortyplus · 31/03/2024 19:32

Nah don’t buy them ever as they don’t use ‘advent’ in their advent calendars or ‘Easter’ on their eggs and it annoys me.

Oh please! Many eggs are simply marketed as chocolate eggs and always have been .

Eggs are a pagan symbol anyway, appropriated by the church.

Aussieland · 31/03/2024 20:45

Clearly people don’t care that much about ethics and palm oil and cadburys “being crap these days” if a slightly random shape of egg or “the wrong shaped squares” in chocolate put you off.
Maybe take a step back and examine what really matters in life 😂

MrsWombat · 31/03/2024 20:49

My 9-year-old loves Toney's chocolates. I think he's been radicalised watching a few YouTube videos or adverts about illegal child labour. He's definitely been learning about palm oil and orangutans in school.

I'm glad I got him the bag of small eggs along with a normal cadburys one, rather than the large Toney's egg he really wanted. He relented when I pointed out the large price difference in the price per 100g on the SEL.

HoneyButterPopcorn · 31/03/2024 20:52

DdraigGoch · 31/03/2024 20:28

What about the advent calendar?

They had an empty window with a preachy comment inside.

You’d already bought the ‘good guys’ chocolate and probably read the back. You don’t need your little kids opening up a window to a lecture over breakfast.

I thing they did out two chocolates in a subsequent window though.
