Two children (2 yo and 9 months baby), DH and myself and the floor ALWAYS has crumbs and bits of dried yucky stuff on it. I hoover and mop twice a week ATM but it's a never ending battle. I'm still on mat leave and so always at home and stepping on crumbs is getting so annoying! Tell me about your kitchen floors, your top cleaning tips, or maybe just tell me to go back to work and think about something else haha.

It gets hoovered once or twice a week, swept a few times a week and mopped... well... no where near as often as it should be 😂

BarrelOfOtters · 18/03/2024 15:25

Roomba...or eufy. Or a dog.

Cleaner does ours every 2 weeks, I tend to do it on the alternate weeks. Don't think DH knows we own a mop (he's very good at hoovering thought).

No kids so not that bad usually. So once a week unless there's been a spill....

Allmarbleslost · 18/03/2024 15:26

Ours needs sweeping every day and I don't mop anywhere near as often as I need to

Catsfrontbum · 18/03/2024 15:26

2/3 a week. Hoover then steam mop.

Taylormiffed · 18/03/2024 15:26

Two teens. No pets. No shoe household. It's surprising how clean it stays.
I run the vacuum over it a couple of times a week. Don't own a mop, just wipe up any spillages as I go (which are rare tbh).

lifebeginsaftercoffee · 18/03/2024 15:27

Everyday, but we have a tiny galley kitchen so it only takes a few minutes.

floppybit · 18/03/2024 15:27

This is my most hated job!!!! I hoover up the crumbs regularly, but I can't confess to how often I mop it or you will all call me a filthy cow!!

Gowlett · 18/03/2024 15:27

It’s the worst part of our house. Gets dirty so quickly!

Fast800 · 18/03/2024 15:27

Robot hoover on daily and use a spray mop 2 to 3 times a week.

jengachampion · 18/03/2024 15:27

I spot clean with kitchen spray and a washcloth after every meal and do a full sweep/mop once a week

Arrestedmanevolence · 18/03/2024 15:28

When we are good, a robot Hoover once a day. But typically just once a week. No one has died and we haven't got mice. If we get mice we will get a dog and a cat. One for the crumbs, one for the mice.

murasaki · 18/03/2024 15:29

Swept at least once a day, thanks cats who can't exit the litter tray without kicking out a few bits.
Hoovered and mopped once a week.
Spillages dealt with at the time via flash wipe.

CrispsandCheeseSandwich · 18/03/2024 15:29

Is it a kitchen/dining room?

I don't mop the kitchen that often (once a week, maybe slightly less) but the dining area which is at the other end of the kitchen gets cleaned basically after every meal. Not properly hoovered and mopped, but swept and wiped with a reusable cloth and warm soapy water. I have a 4 year old who eats quite tidily, and a 20 month old who is prone to making crumbs or dropping pasta off her fork etc.

dothehokeycokey · 18/03/2024 15:29

Three dogs and two teens here.

I turn on the robo hoover every morning early when I get up or when I get in from work at tea time and then do a full hoover downstairs probably three times a week

I probably spray mop the floors twice a week and then do a full mop on a sat morning.

The ground outside being so damp and green doesn't help with dogs and kids etc

Phillipa12 · 18/03/2024 15:29

I hoover and mop my downstairs everyday, it's not a big house, so takes 20mins, I have 3 boys and a dog.

Runnerduck34 · 18/03/2024 15:30

I hoover mine daily - mop every 2-3 days, sometimes daily if I have time. Have 2 dogs in rural area, lots of muddy walks so gets dirty quickly

CleftChin · 18/03/2024 15:31

Send the robot/me round every couple of weeks, and TBH mop every 2 years. Although a cloth gets rubbed on anything spilled.

Actually, I used a gentle pressure washer on it last week (battery one, in a bucket of soapy water), just to see if that worked better. Not really. It's a lumpy horrible giant concrete tile thing though so it's an absolute pig to keep mopped, and I just refuse and put down washable rugs on high traffic spots instead.

Ithinkitstimeforbed · 18/03/2024 15:32

i have a 2.5 year old and I vacuum daily and use a spray mop every day, the cleaner does a thorough mop weekly. Like you we get crumbs as our dining table is in the kitchen, we always seem to have bits of garden by the back door too. The spray mop just keeps on top of it from getting too bad but it’s not as good as a proper mop.

MereDintofPandiculation · 18/03/2024 15:32

I’m a long way down the spectrum of house-proud-ness, but I sweep the kitchen floor every day and mop when needed, which is about 3 times a week. I imagine if I had a clutch of school age kids it would be sweep after every meal and mop at least once a day.

But I don’t necessarily move furniture or mop bits which aren’t visibly dirty.

It’s easier to sweep up stuff that hasn’t been trampled on.

DailyMailHater · 18/03/2024 15:33

obviously any spills are cleaned as we go but then…
hoovered every night as part of “cleaning up” kitchen in evening after tea.
mopped every Sunday morning as I am always first up and like to get it done knowing it has time to dry before anyone else needs to walk on it.

Caspianberg · 18/03/2024 15:33

Hoover - daily. Either eufy robo, or battery hoover to quickly get rid of crumbs from child.

Mop - once every 7-10 days if I can get away with it.

It’s a pretty small kitchen diner, no shoes in house so main mess is crumbs from baking, dinner prep, or eating, especially from child. But it doesn’t get actually dirty really bar crumbs so no need for more frequent mopping. Obviously iF a disaster happens like chocolate milk everywhere then it’s mopped immediately

MonsteraMama · 18/03/2024 15:33

I have three large dogs, I was doing it every day. Then I got a Eufy and I now just deep clean it once a month, the Eufy takes care of the dog grit and general debris. I love it.

Woahtherehoney · 18/03/2024 15:33

Hoover daily and steam clean once a week. A child, two cats and a dog means it can get a bit messy haha! I do sometimes do a mid week steam clean depending on how bad it is.

Pascha · 18/03/2024 15:33

Swept every day after dinner. Vacuumed once or twice a week and washed after that.

I keep a refillable flash mop with washable heads for spot cleaning murkiness.

Limth · 18/03/2024 15:33

Hoovered two or three times a week.

Quick dustpan and brush sweep of crumby areas every evening.

Wet cleaned all over twice a week.

Wet cleaned in grubby areas twice per day because the dog won't use a bowl so eats straight off the floor.
