Two children (2 yo and 9 months baby), DH and myself and the floor ALWAYS has crumbs and bits of dried yucky stuff on it. I hoover and mop twice a week ATM but it's a never ending battle. I'm still on mat leave and so always at home and stepping on crumbs is getting so annoying! Tell me about your kitchen floors, your top cleaning tips, or maybe just tell me to go back to work and think about something else haha.

I hoover mine 2 or 3 times a day but I'm quite obsessive. I hate crumbs and bits on the floor.

I wipe it (it can't be mopped according to the type of floor it is apparently!) every once in a while and it's always pretty spotless so I don't know why I bother but I do!

avocadotofu · 18/03/2024 18:16

It swept daily and moped once a week (by our cleaner) if we had to do it ourselves goodness knows how long it would be!

TinyTeachr · 18/03/2024 18:16

I sweep under and around the table twice a day -we have 4DC and the 3yo twins always drop something....

Properly clean it? Not even every week! Basically gets done when it visibly needs doing. There's always something that's higher priority e.g. mud near the back door where people take shoes off, suspicious dribbles near the loo.....

I have come to terms with a certain amount of grubbiness for the time being and mostly just tackle whatever is worst.

mommybear1 · 18/03/2024 18:17

Robot hoover on every night lovely to walk down to no crumbs on feet! Steam mop three times a week.

TheFancyPoet · 18/03/2024 18:17

sweep daily as often needed, on my four with a hand wipe daily , as often as needed. This way never needed ever to do moping with a bucket and all that paraphernalia

Quanked · 18/03/2024 18:19

Robot goes round daily. I usually quickly run the cordless round too. And around the table is swept with dustpan and brush after dinner. There are still crumbs everywhere 😭. It’s like the second I feel
like the kitchen is clean someone decides to make toast.

I mop once a week usually but I hate mopping so it is the task that will get left undone.

When ds1 was a baby/toddler he’d chuck all his food on the floor (and repeat if I picked it back up)so I’d sit him down there afterwards and he’d eat it all up off the floor. People on MN were disgusted by this when I owned up to it at the time but honestly my dining room floor has never been so clean! I cleaned it with antibac and a cloth on my hands and knees after every meal.

You need hot water to get a floor properly clean.

Lollipopsicle · 18/03/2024 18:29

Sweep every day, spray mop every day or two, and steam clean once a week. There's only 2 adults in the house now though, so we don't make much mess.

Citrusandginger · 18/03/2024 18:33

We have dogs so it depends on the weather. On muddy days, or roll-in-the-grass days, hourly wouldn't be enough.

Most of the time I vacuum (battery Dyson) most days, mop at the weekend and spray mop in between. Vacuuming often makes a big difference.

Solocup · 18/03/2024 18:35

You need a robot hoover. Robot or sweep every day. Mop once or twice a week.
our floor is still gross but I’m not mopping every day.

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 18/03/2024 18:36

Dustpan brush when obvious crumbs, hoover at least once a week, mop at least once a week and can be more depending if it needs it.

hobocock · 18/03/2024 18:40

I bought a robot vacuum at Christmas and I sent it round the kitchen once a day. I love it. It also has a mop function so I get it to mop whenever necessary. It has made a huge difference.

hotmailgmailoutlook · 18/03/2024 18:46

our floor gets hoovered everyday and mop once a week. No shoes allowed inside. We have really tiny plates which children use even if they have to eat biscuit, they all are used to it and our kitchen stays always clean.

RM2013 · 18/03/2024 18:49

Hoover and mopped. Couple of times a week. Will do extra cleaning if we have anyone coming round or if they r looks particularly grubby

geoger · 18/03/2024 18:51

Hoovered every day - sometimes twice if we’ve made mess. Mopped every day and steam cleaned once a week

Onemoret1me · 18/03/2024 18:52

We’ve got a black floor which is the bane of my life. It shows every single crumb.
it’s hoovered twice a day usually and mopped probably every other day, sometimes daily, depends how much energy I have!

knittingball · 18/03/2024 19:29

Every day i sweep mop twice a week.

MyBigFatGreekSalad · 18/03/2024 19:43

Kitchen and lounge hoovered daily and mopped once or twice a week.

If I skip a day hoovering it's covered in crumbs and drives me insane😂

LoreleiG · 18/03/2024 19:48

I barely ever mop! I hoover it most days with a Dyson hand held.

Gettingonmygoat · 18/03/2024 20:11

Mop every night before bed.

SalmonFandango · 18/03/2024 20:15

When it looks dirty, no one is of an age to eat off it anymore.

MyOtherHusbandIsAWash · 18/03/2024 20:19

Swept as and when needed (probably 1-3x a week). Hoovered and mopped mainly by cleaner every 3 weeks but all spillages dealt with at the time either with blue towel/kitchen roll or mop if large. I will mop a bit more when the baby is crawling but we’re a no shoe house so it’s just the grubby cat pawprints that really contribute to grime.

Itiswhysofew · 18/03/2024 20:26

Hoover 3x a week, otherwise sweep it. Mop 3x a week.

AffableApple · 18/03/2024 21:24

Shower curtains on the floor will help with the dried yucky stuff and crumbs caused during meal times. Just make sure the little ones don't walk on them and slip! Saves so much cleaning.

Flakydaydreamer · 18/03/2024 21:29

No pets and shoes off household means I can get away with wiping it just once a week and it doesn’t get too grubby.

I know my best friend who has outdoor cats & three kids has to mop every day.

But I hoover every other day. Ideally it would be once or twice a day tbh as I’m quite messy with crumbs in the kitchen!
