Two children (2 yo and 9 months baby), DH and myself and the floor ALWAYS has crumbs and bits of dried yucky stuff on it. I hoover and mop twice a week ATM but it's a never ending battle. I'm still on mat leave and so always at home and stepping on crumbs is getting so annoying! Tell me about your kitchen floors, your top cleaning tips, or maybe just tell me to go back to work and think about something else haha.

Swept when it needs it - a few times a week.
Cleaned - weeks can pass unless there is a spillage.

We both work and have hobbies that are more interesting than mopping the kitchen floor constantly.

Gobsmacked that people are sweeping, vacuuming, mopping multiple times a day.

PickAChew · 18/03/2024 17:14

Ours is vacuumed once or twice a week, swept and spot cleaned in between. I actually steam mopped it, yesterday, for the first time since November. I don’t have pets or small kids.

ChristmasFluff · 18/03/2024 17:18

Vacuum every day and mop once a week. Or twice a week if it needs it, but not if it's raining cos the cats will just put muddy feet straight back on it.

Gbishywoo · 18/03/2024 17:20

i hoover daily and flash mop daily deep clean twoce a week! 3 kids messy husband and a cat and dog

GoodnightAdeline · 18/03/2024 17:21

Once a week, hoover and mop. Don’t have time for more than that. Will run the mop over if there’s a spill or something.

BrondesburyBelle · 18/03/2024 17:23

Once a week plus spot cleaning as necessary. I got a motley beige limestone floor on purpose so it wouldn’t show everything after living with white tiles with two DC the age yours are now. You are at peak mess for the next couple of years I’m afraid. Going back to work will only help if the DC are looked after out of the house! Mine were looked after by grandparents and I could hardly ask them to clean too!

Wotrewelookinat · 18/03/2024 17:24

Hoover with hand held Dyson every day (hate crumbs on the floor plus our dog sheds quite a bit), wipe up splashes and muddy dog prints most days, mop every couple 9 weeks.

Msmumm · 18/03/2024 17:30

Myself, husband, two adult children and a dog and the floor gets vacuumed and steam mopped every morning. Its a large kitchen/diner and the floor is ivory porcelain tiles. If it isn't cleaned every day it would look an absolute state.
If I know we are going to have visitors in the evening then it gets done again. I can't bear a grubby floor.

Snugglemonkey · 18/03/2024 17:31

I sweep daily. Often more than once. I spray mop around the table a similar amount. I have a 1 year old doing blw. Cleaner washes it weekly.

MyLadyTheKingsMother · 18/03/2024 17:33

When mine were that little it was a daily job.

Now they aren't crawling and eating anything in the floor I spot clean if I spill, sweep daily and wash it about twice a year 😂

realitybites2 · 18/03/2024 17:34

I have to sweep under the table after breakfast/lunch and dinner. Or I leave it and just do it after dinner if I'm feeling particularly irritated about it.

Vacuum once a week. We sweep mainly because it's also the door to the back garden and we are constantly in and out.

I'm embarrassed to admit that I hardly ever mop. Blush

ASighMadeOfStone · 18/03/2024 17:35

Just me and DH.
Try to do it every day but realistically maybe 4 times a week. Otherwise it is minging. Definitely has to be swept every day.
Both work full time.

Vettrianofan · 18/03/2024 17:37

Hoover twice a week, mop floor once a month.

wetpebbles · 18/03/2024 17:39

i have a rug so a hoover a few times a week

Isseywith3witchycats · 18/03/2024 17:40

no kids but three cat who are on a mission to see how many biscuits and how much cat litter they can chuck everywhere so i sweep it every day and mop it every three days tiled floor

Yuckyyuckyuckity · 18/03/2024 17:48

Hoover the kitchen/dining area and entrance hallway probably every other day on average (hard floors). Mop them nowhere near enough prob once every 2-3 weeks.

Lounge (carpet) twice a week

Upstairs (all carpeted) one a week

Rainbowshine · 18/03/2024 17:52

When my children were that age I used to have a cheap shower curtain that I would put under their chair to catch all the debris and some spills - I would gather it up and put the debris into the bin and then a quick rinse in the machine.

We now have a robot vacuum that goes around most evenings and we mop about once a week.

WeightoftheWorld · 18/03/2024 17:57

Is hoovered and floor wiped 1-2 times a week depending on what we are doing and how busy we are. Really it could benefit from being done every other day but don't have the time or energy for that.

Maneandfeathers · 18/03/2024 17:59

I hoover and mop every day. Sometimes twice. Once a week it gets a hand scrub and deep clean.

Disclaimer…I have big dogs and messy kids.

ColleenDonaghy · 18/03/2024 18:02

Our cleaner comes once a week and does a proper hoover and mop. We run the hoover around under the table a couple of times in between, as and when it needs.

I hate getting the big hoover out, but I don't mind sweeping and since we got a light cordless hoover I mind that even less.

Bunnybear42 · 18/03/2024 18:02

Everyday sweep and mop but our kitchen is small so I think gets dirtier quicker. We are a shoes off household but have a toddler and teenager so they attract crumbs 🤣

Apollo365 · 18/03/2024 18:02

Get a hoover mop, it’s a game changer

Familiaritybreedscontemptso · 18/03/2024 18:05

Swept every day then the cleaner mops when she comes 2 x per week. When dc were little & crawling (& messier), it was more like swept 2x per day and mopped daily.

Winnipeggy · 18/03/2024 18:06

It gets swept nearly every day, but tbh I can't remember the last time I washed it

theemmadilemma · 18/03/2024 18:08

Daily to both atm for our kitchen/diner. It's muddy in the garden and so needs mopping daily with 2 people and 2 dogs in and out multiple times a day.

I always hoover daily downstairs. Mopping less than daily in summer. Probably every other day.
