Two children (2 yo and 9 months baby), DH and myself and the floor ALWAYS has crumbs and bits of dried yucky stuff on it. I hoover and mop twice a week ATM but it's a never ending battle. I'm still on mat leave and so always at home and stepping on crumbs is getting so annoying! Tell me about your kitchen floors, your top cleaning tips, or maybe just tell me to go back to work and think about something else haha.

Hoover it about 3 times a day (it’s quicker than sweeping and then using a dustpan and brush and then emptying it, it’s a cordless one that just plugs in in the utility next to the broom), we are a busy house hold and cook something most meals - breakfast lunch and dinner, cleaner steams once a week and I steam again at the weekend.
i absolutely cannot abide crumbs under my feet and a grubby kitchen floor.

IggOrEgg · 18/03/2024 16:24

Ugh probably 2-3 times a week. I bloody hate it, worst household job. It’s always so grubby too, I’ve a toddler, two dogs and were farmers so I’m really up against it 😂

LittleGreenDragons · 18/03/2024 16:24

It depends if DH cooks/makes a sandwich. When he's not around we can manage 4 whole days without crumbs on the floor, probably longer but that's the maximum he's been away. Within 5 minutes of him being home we have half a loaf crumbled up on it.

Is yours a kitchen diner? If not, who is dropping the food on the floor as I assume the kids are sitting down at the table.

addictedtotheflats · 18/03/2024 16:27

I sweep multiple times day, its like groundhog day. Mopping, not half as much as I probably should.

Gruffalowe · 18/03/2024 16:27

Family of 4, dcs are 4 and 13 months old.
I’m in the kitchen multiple times a day cooking and making snacks, the floor gets gross pretty quickly.
Sweep daily at least twice a day, every other day I use the that Flash floor cleaner thing on a stick. Our kitchen is pretty small, so fortunately only takes a couple of mins!

sonypony · 18/03/2024 16:27

Robot hoover/mop goes round every day to keep on top of the worst of it. I do a proper hoover and mop once or twice a week.

willowsxx · 18/03/2024 16:28

We hoover once/twice a week but sweep and mop the floor every night after tea.

NoTeaNoShade · 18/03/2024 16:28

Robo-Hoover every day at 2pm (have it on a timer) then mop once a week.

Just me and DH, no kids or pets so probably a bit different to some.

Ihearyousingingdownthewire · 18/03/2024 16:28

Vacuum and steam mop daily. Pale limestone flags.

I live on a farm and have three very large dogs. I do like to keep my house immaculate though.

Rosesanddaisies1 · 18/03/2024 16:29

Quick hoover most days. We have a strict rule about eating at the table.

Lemonademoney · 18/03/2024 16:30

Hoover most days and mop 2/3 times a week depending on the mess

SallyWD · 18/03/2024 16:31

My children are older so not eating things off the floor. I sweep it once a day or once every two days.
It gets hoovered and mopped once a week. That's enough for me. It looks clean.

Creatureofhabit87 · 18/03/2024 16:31

Hoovered when it gets bits on it but probably cleaned once a year! Disgusting I know.

loropianalover · 18/03/2024 16:32

I despise crumbs as well - could you get a Roomba and run it 1 or 2 times a day?

We sweep every night, hoover 2x a week. Mopping varies as I go in and out of obsession with it, sometimes I’ll mop every night after sweep and then that’s ’kitchen closed’ but sometimes I’ll ignore it for 2 or 3 weeks honestly.

Dogdilemma2000 · 18/03/2024 16:33

BarrelOfOtters · 18/03/2024 15:25

Roomba...or eufy. Or a dog.

Cleaner does ours every 2 weeks, I tend to do it on the alternate weeks. Don't think DH knows we own a mop (he's very good at hoovering thought).

No kids so not that bad usually. So once a week unless there's been a spill....

Hahahahshahaha

Get a dog they said. No more crumbs on the floor they said.

No one warns you that you’ll be mopping mud off your floor and white goods daily.

OldMrsHempstock · 18/03/2024 16:35

2 kids, 2 cats, dark kitchen floor. Bad combination. Gets hoovered and mopped twice a week and swept a couple of times in between but it looks filthy within a couple of hours.

PutOnYourRedShoesAndLetsDance · 18/03/2024 16:36

Just me and cat unless Grandkids sleep over.
I vacuum ( shark cordless.. l don't have an hoover ..don't think many people have hoovers these days) twice or 3 times a week.. then steam mop.

Waitingfordoggo · 18/03/2024 16:37

I sweep or hoover it 2-3 times a week and mop it once a week, if it’s lucky. We have two teenagers and a dog and we mostly use the kitchen door (which is our main back door) as our main entrance so at this time of the year, it gets grubby pretty quickly (luckily the colour and pattern of the tiles disguises a lot of the dirt).

None of us eat our dinner off the floor so I don’t worry about it too much. (Also, life is short and I doubt I’ll spend any time on my deathbed thinking that I should have cleaned the floor more often).

mumtoanangel · 18/03/2024 16:50

Nowhere near enough as i should

NewName24 · 18/03/2024 17:02

We have one of those long handled dustpan and brush sets in the kitchen, so when we see something, we scoop it up with that without any need to be getting vacuum cleaners out.
Then might spot clean with a cloth, or obviously wipe up a spill as and when needed.

It is vacuumed and mopped once a week now we have a cleaner, but didn't used to be in the decades before we had a cleaner. Just when it looked like it needed it or it occurred to me I hadn't done it for a few weeks.

holjam · 18/03/2024 17:05

Sweep or hoover every day as we've a Labrador who sheds everywhere. And 2 kids. In this weather I mop every second day but in summer when it's drier I'd mop once a week.

TulipTuesday · 18/03/2024 17:07

Sweep most days and mop once, maybe twice, a week.

BobnLen · 18/03/2024 17:07

Every couple of weeks or so

BIossomtoes · 18/03/2024 17:08

I washed ours this morning - and genuinely have no idea when I last did it.

Aquamarine1029 · 18/03/2024 17:10

I do a quick sweep with just an old fashioned broom several times a day and it really helps keep things at bay.
