To have really long hair in my 40s?

Recently turned 40 and have long blonde hair (past my boobs) and don’t feel comfortable with it now at my age. Although it’s healthy hair and people often say I look younger than my age I feel almost uncomfortable with it on me now whereas loved it in my 20s and 30s

have booked to get it cut next week 🤣

I don’t like the look some women have (long hair fillers Botox dressing as if in 20s) like desperately clinging to youth. I think it’s far more classy to have short/medium length hair, less make up etc

just wondered what others opinions are?

btw no offence to anyone who’s older with long hair it’s just how I feel about it on myself

yabu - long hair on older women is fine

yanbu- shorter is better

But it’s not just how you feel about yourself is it? You’ve literally said you don’t like it on other women your age!

Get it cut if you’d rather get it cut. Just leave everyone else out of it.

Floralnomad · 10/03/2024 20:25

Judgemental or what .

DinnaeFashYersel · 10/03/2024 20:26

What has age got to do with hair?

ItsallIeverwanted · 10/03/2024 20:27

You don't have to have Botox and fillers if you have longer length hair over 40! Just have it long if you like it, don't if you don't. I find slightly shorter, like a very long bob works better for me than shoulder blade length as as I've aged, my hair isn't quite so thick, and it looks thickest and nicest cut that bit shorter, I also take collagen. I prefer the longer look on me but I don't care what anyone else is up to!

LilacScroller · 10/03/2024 20:27

Im 44 i have lovely long dark hair. Each to their own.

xSideshowAuntSallyx · 10/03/2024 20:27

Oh well, I have long hair. I'm not over the hill yet at 46. There's no way I'm cutting my hair short as it's curly and short hair doesn't suit me.You do you and leave the rest of us to our long hair.

PrincessMonacoOfKent · 10/03/2024 20:27

I felt like that at the same age and had it cut shorter, and instantly regretted it! I'm now in my 50s and my hair's longer than it's ever been, well past my bra strap, although I do normally wear it tied up.

I still often think about having it cut shorter, but haven't found a style I fancy, so it's staying long!

BarbieDangerous · 10/03/2024 20:27

What sort of thread is this

TheSnowyOwl · 10/03/2024 20:28

Hair is any length is suitable on any adult of any age.

MillshakePickle · 10/03/2024 20:29

I'm a similar age. My hair sounds like the same length as yours if not longer. As long as its style well I think it doesn't matter as long as you're happy.

And, I guess I do like I'm in my 20s still. No fillers or botox but other enhancements.

I'm happy with how I look and if people think 10 -15 years younger...that's their problem. I know how old I am

Fibble · 10/03/2024 20:29

I always find 'classy' quite a plonkerish word.

SummerSazz · 10/03/2024 20:30

I'm 51 and hair down to boobs. Look like a plonker with short hair so keep it long.... Don't give a fig what anyone thinks!

Zerotoleranceforgoats · 10/03/2024 20:30

My long hair and Botox look great, thanks 🙏

XiCi · 10/03/2024 20:30

God you sound awful. Seriously. Why so judgemental and frankly misogynistic.
If you want to cut your hair, great, crack on. To cut your hair because you're 40 and you think it's inappropriate to have long hair just sounds deranged

vodkaredbullgirl · 10/03/2024 20:31

I'm nearly 55 and have long hair, not getting it all cut off anytime soon.

dudsville · 10/03/2024 20:31

Each to their own, but it's not about age. I have long grey hair in gray condition with layers and the current curtain fringe. I love it. I fantasise about the ease of short hair. I go to the gym regularly and hair care is a faff, though to be fair mine only takes ten min to do. I may cot it at some point for ease, but I'm not going to cut it because of age. If someone gets confused or thinks I'm trying to be something I'm not well that's on them.

shadyboots2024 · 10/03/2024 20:31

I'm turning 40 and don't give a shit about classy so no, won't be cutting my hair
My hairdresser is booked up until September anyway Grin

op woke up and chose judgey goadiness today 😂

I’ve long hair, I give not one shit if you think I should wear little make up and cut it short. Not one.

StopTheBusINeedAWeeWeeAWeeWeeBagOChips · 10/03/2024 20:31

I am mid 40s and have really long hair, I'm not desperately clinging to anything, I just like my long hair.

You may think your classy because you're getting your hair cut, but your attitude towards other women proves that you don't have an ounce of class at all.

Purpledragonz · 10/03/2024 20:32

I love long hair on women in their 40s and up

twiddlingthumbs69 · 10/03/2024 20:32

I'm 60 with naturally blonde hair past my shoulders. Every now and then I have a wobble and think I should get it cut. On those days I tend to wear it up.
I might wear it up permanently as I get even older but feel loathed to cut it just because someone somewhere deemed it unbecoming at my age.
Cut if you wish of course, but if not sure, where it up for a month, then decide

XiCi · 10/03/2024 20:33

This is just a wind up thread, surely

This whole weekend on MN feels like it's been a wind up.

Maybe I've time travelled and I'm back in the 1940s..

ShhImThinking · 10/03/2024 20:34

I think hair is so much more than hair.

For me my hair has been an anchor to who I am. I was made to have it short as a child then as a teenager was bullied for having anything other than a low ponytail.
Since leaving school my hair has been a reflection of me, and although it has changed depending on what I am going through at the time, keeping some constants- always an element of blonde, always below my shoulders I feel it is 'me'.

There's a reason cancer patients get wigs and people donate hair to the princess trust, and that's hair is almost spiritually linked with who you are.

You can get short hair if you like, think it suits you, can afford frequent maintenance cuts etc. Personally, I prefer long hair and the women who have long hair 50+ look great.

Reading between the lines though, you sound like you have some internalised misogyny, but I'm telling you now, cutting your hair won't make you appeal to those you try to appeade. They'll just dismiss you as a Karen. (Not my words, I hate that slur)

twiddlingthumbs69 · 10/03/2024 20:35

This is mine. I'm 60
