How much laundry do you have piled up?

I know I’m bad but curious if I’m average bad or bad bad.

Bathroom laundry bin is full and overflowing (30l). Both kids laundry bags are half full (25l). Mine and Dh’s laundry bin (30l) is three quarters full.

Our dining table is fully covered in washed laundry that needs to be folded and taken upstairs. Paying one of my kids to do that today. Table has become a bit of a de facto cupboard as we all often go there first to find clean clothes.

Just what I've used/worn this week, waiting to be washed on the weekend.

MyLadyTheKingsMother · 29/02/2024 13:05

I have one small laundry bin that's fairly full. Will do it in the morning. Have one set of bed sheets drying on a clothes horse that I'll put away in the morning to put the other lot out. That's it.

Iamblossom · 29/02/2024 13:07

It's a daily job. I can easily do 2 loads a day. Then clean stuff piles up in the living room and I spend an hour or so 2 or 3 times a week folding it.

FindingMeno · 29/02/2024 13:07

A big laundry bin piled to teetering and cascading artfully on the floor.

Iamblossom · 29/02/2024 13:08

Might see if I can pay my dog to do it.

MsForgetful · 29/02/2024 13:08

I have a full hamper today despite doing a load already. Don't worry about it, as long as there are clean things to wear its ok.

Inthedarkaboutfashion · 29/02/2024 13:09

We have one dirty laundry bin for the whole family which is currently two thirds full. We have one clean laundry bin with things waiting to be ironed and that has half a dozen items in it. All other clean laundry has already been folded / ironed and put away.
I used to have clean laundry piled up everywhere but I hated it so now I make a habit of putting it away as soon as it is dry/ ironed.
folding it as soon as it is out of the dryer also means most things don’t need ironing.

Greenflamesburn · 29/02/2024 13:09

Nothing today purely as I'm working from home.
yesterday 3 loads (at 10kg each) currently looking at all the dry stuff to be folded but my lunch is almost up so that can wait.

Peekaboobo · 29/02/2024 13:10

None. I follow "A Slob Comes Clean" advice and do all the laundry on one day - yep one day, not a load a day that seems popular with most people.

It's a game changer getting it all done in one day and having 6 days where I don't worry about it.

Go have a look at her website for inspiration she's got other good ideas too.

bigdecisionstomake · 29/02/2024 13:10

Far too much 😳

In my defence I've been under the weather for a week but now have 3 full laundry bins plus a pile of towels on the spare room floor that need to go through. Our bed needs to be changed too...

The ironing pile is similarly out of control.

Feeling better today though so have just put a load of whites through and will have a laundry based weekend I think 😆

Lifebeganat50 · 29/02/2024 13:10

None…well I have a load on the line but that will be put away when I bring it it .

Im not being smug, I’ve developed a bit of an unhealthy obsession just now as a coping mechanism due to a major ongoing fuckup-it’s about this being something I can control

NotFastButFurious · 29/02/2024 13:10

None but that's because I did 2 loads last night and 2 loads this morning (including my bedding!). Before that the laundry basket was overflowing as I hadn't done any for over a week.

Evaka · 29/02/2024 13:11

I've started sending out towels, sheets etc to be washed. Game changer in our little London flat with no dryer. It's honestly made for a nicer home life and head space.

TiIIyM · 29/02/2024 13:12

Sounds like you have too many clothes! We do it daily, no pile up. And paying your kids to take washing up? Jeez.

Containerhome · 29/02/2024 13:13

About the same as you @Joulee I gave worrying. The kids and us always have clean clothes. Washing is never going to end anyways. We are a large family though

Tetsuo · 29/02/2024 13:13

I am always amazed at the amount of laundry people on MN do.

I've just been away for five days, changed the beds and towels before I went and I have two baskets of laundry in the utility. It's two loads.

I have another small basket of ironing for my cleaner/ironing woman.

How do people end up with clothes all over the house?? And washing multiple times a day?

dementedpixie · 29/02/2024 13:13

There's a small amount in all 4 laundry hampers. There's 2 in my room that are for dark and lights and the 2 kids have 1 each. Have done 2 loads today and they are hanging to dry as I don't have a tumble dryer

DevaleraSpawnOfSatan · 29/02/2024 13:14

Retired, so I tend to do it as soon as laundry basket is full, before I retired I didn’t work Fridays so that was laundry day and that generally rolled over into Saturday on bed linen change day. Lucky enough to have an ironing lady so it tends to come back hanging or folded in a big collapsible box which sits there gazing at you malevolently until you empty it. Quietly whispering, you didn't have to iron me, the least you can do is put me away.😂

DevaleraSpawnOfSatan · 29/02/2024 13:15

Of course it goes without saying that said box of ironing is invisible to the other inmates. 🙄

It's called 3 kids and 2 parents working fulltime jobs in this house.

Iamblossom · 29/02/2024 13:16

No ironing pile though. Never iron.

Pfpppl · 29/02/2024 13:16

A small amount in the laundry bins in our and DS's bedrooms. One load on the airer in the utility drying and a pile of ironing that I'll tackle this afternoon.

Containerhome · 29/02/2024 13:17

@Greenflamesburn same. 4 kids. Both adults self employed working full time

Firsttimebabymama · 29/02/2024 13:17

I'm good at washing- it's the putting away! There's often a pile waiting to be put away.
