How much laundry do you have piled up?

I know I’m bad but curious if I’m average bad or bad bad.

Bathroom laundry bin is full and overflowing (30l). Both kids laundry bags are half full (25l). Mine and Dh’s laundry bin (30l) is three quarters full.

Our dining table is fully covered in washed laundry that needs to be folded and taken upstairs. Paying one of my kids to do that today. Table has become a bit of a de facto cupboard as we all often go there first to find clean clothes.

Nothing much in the laundry bin not enough for a wash load anyway. Some ironing to be done but I iron once a week on a Sunday morning and put it straight away so it's to be expected.

Eep. I wash all towels twice a week. Tea towels get washed after 2 days. Bedding once a week. How long do you go between washes?

Oh ages! I don't really keep track to be honest. Probably 1-2 months for bedding, 3 weeks for bath towels, a week for hand towels, 3 days for tea towels. There's no way I could wash everything as often as you, small house no tumble drier, there is literally nowhere to dry big things in winter.

Hummusanddipdip · 29/02/2024 14:39

Wash bins are about quarter full (I have done washing over the past 2 days) there is a basket of clean washing to go upstairs to put away and the airer has wet clothes on it.

This is much more organised than I am usually, we get to Friday and all 3 (lights, darks and colours) are overflowing

What about stuff you can't tumble though? Like DS sports joggers that cost me a fortune and will shrink in the drier?
Or my work trousers that will also shrink? Pjs shrink.....
I have a new drier, so it's not the drier. Maybe it's user error 🤔
I'm genuinely asking, not being sarky.
Do you tumble EVERYTHING?

I tumble dry everything. Clothes from shops that I know will shrink (looking at you, Primark), I buy a size or two bigger for the children knowing it will shrink down.

Not flush enough for anything other that cheap fabrics though, no no wool etc.

I don’t iron either. I just hate putting Clean washing away with a passion. Which is why one small load a day works for me.

FusionChefGeoff · 29/02/2024 15:21

I'm smug systems girl here - DH does a load most days and we are ruthless about folding it straight off the airer into a box per person. After a couple of days boxes go into rooms and are put away that day.

We iron very little - that hangs in utility and gets done once a week.

It's one of the few things where we are most definitely smashing life.

MeMyCatsAndMyBooks · 29/02/2024 15:24

About 1 and half laundary bin full!

My tumble dryer died and washing isn't drying outside as we're having a cold spell. Kids have plenty of clean clothes but I must admit I ran out of clean trousers today 😂

PansyOatZebra · 29/02/2024 15:25

One overflowing in our bedroom. And baby’s one needs doing too. But that’s quite good for us.

My trick is to have smaller laundry baskets because then you’re forced to address the overflowing quicker!

ohpumpkinseeds · 29/02/2024 15:27

Not enough for a full wash of any colour (whites darks lights) at the moment. One came out of the machine this morning though and is on the airer and the spare room bedding is in the washing machine right now!

TwoBlueFish · 29/02/2024 15:37

We have 2 communal laundry baskets, one for general laundry and one for things that need a higher temperature (towels, bedding, etc). Not enough for a full load in either at the moment.

The washing I did yesterday and hung on the airer is mostly dry and I folded and put them away this morning. There’s about 3 tops that need ironing and a couple of tops that weren’t quite dry that are still on the airer.

I rarely use my dryer anymore but the trick is to remove and the hang the stuff as soon as it’s dry.

None of us have a huge number of clothes so it all gets sorted pretty quickly or else we’d have nothing to wear. Most clothes now get worn more than once (apart from underwear and socks) which really reduced our volume of washing.

WonderingAboutBabies · 29/02/2024 15:40

Half a basket. One load currently on, another on the rack about to come off.
Always fold as it comes off the drying rack and straight into the bedroom on top of the bed. Otherwise it never gets put away!

I have a clothes horse for stuff I can’t tumble dry. Mostly football jerseys, kits, dd’s school uniform etc . The odd wooly jumper. I don’t tumble dry jeans either. The clothes horse is in the sunroom at the minute. At night if we had the stove on I move it into this room.

None. I follow "A Slob Comes Clean" advice and do all the laundry on one day - yep one day, not a load a day that seems popular with most people.

It's a game changer getting it all done in one day and having 6 days where I don't worry about it.

Go have a look at her website for inspiration she's got other good ideas too.

I'd also advocate asking myself if something can be worn again if I was in the situation with my washing that some posters are. Not everything needs to be washed after one use.

BertieBotts · 29/02/2024 15:53

We have 3 laundry bins.

It can vary between them all being almost empty to a couple of them being overflowing plus there is a pile on the sofa and in the bathroom.

But, not as bad as I used to be when laundry mountain took up a good quarter of my bedroom 😬

I do aim to have at least some space in each bin at all times, and for nobody to run out of clean clothes in their drawers. I don't really have a system other than that though. Just do it basically at random based on how often the idea occurs to me. Sometimes I get through three loads in a day, sometimes I don't do any for three days.

SirenSays · 29/02/2024 15:58

1 load to go in the machine. 6 formerly organised folded piles, rummaged through heaps to put away

ThinkingAgainAndAgain · 29/02/2024 15:59

None. Laundry is one of the few things I’m pretty much always on top of. I do a load every day. Decluttering, on the other hand …

PawsisShady · 29/02/2024 16:03

I've just looked in mine and it's actually mostly taken up by 2 super king size duvet covers. Not as bad as I thought!

Hugmorecats · 29/02/2024 16:12

I do a load every day but have two other flowing laundry baskets still

The kids are great contributors to this - they have both had accidents this week for example, so they both went through multiple clothes a day. The youngest gets very muddy at nursery, so their bulky coat needed washing. Three lots of bedding to do and my partner is built like a rugby player, so his clothes seem huge to me!

The worst times have been when the kids have had norovirus

Katemax82 · 29/02/2024 16:24

Don't know why yabu according to this, I'm the same and I'm always doing laundry!

ManchesterLu · 29/02/2024 16:57

I always wait for the washing basket to be full, then shove the whole thing in the wash (we have a large washing machine). At the moment it's about 75% full, so I'll probably do the wash sometime over the weekend.

SadlyACupOfTeaDoesNotSolveEverything · 29/02/2024 16:59

I will have a load of towels to do tonight after activities and a few sports kits. Baskets are currently empty.

TheIceQween · 29/02/2024 17:01

I don’t mind washing, drying, ironing, folding… it’s the putting away for me!! Wish me luck guys… I’m going in

How much laundry do you have piled up?
SgtJuneAckland · 29/02/2024 17:05

No clean piles, it gets put away once dry, don't iron until needed, other than uniform which all gets washed, dried and then ironed in one go.

Half a laundry bin of mine and DHs stuff and most of DS's laundry net bag (his gets done on a Saturday morning to capture a week of uniform). So probably not quite two loads and half a white load. DH is off tomorrow so will get ours done then DS' will get done Saturday, bedding and towels sunday

lambhotpot · 29/02/2024 17:21

I do my laundry once a week done it to day towels bedding everything.
From the washer to the dryer to the ironing board then packed away.
So right now nothing only what ive got on,

inquisitiveinga · 29/02/2024 18:11

Half a laundry bin, I personally can't stand it when it's over flowing but I think that's a me problem and would like to get over it 😅

Heavily pregnant with DD1, have one very active (and therefore muddy) son and work full time (school hours). I'm beginning to tell myself I need to let it go a bit so full respect to you for being able to!

ViciousCurrentBun · 29/02/2024 18:13

More than usual as I’m ill and have vomited all over bedding and also other stuff in two horrendous events. DH dealt with all that and has done one other load as well but we are short of drying space.
