How much laundry do you have piled up?

I know I’m bad but curious if I’m average bad or bad bad.

Bathroom laundry bin is full and overflowing (30l). Both kids laundry bags are half full (25l). Mine and Dh’s laundry bin (30l) is three quarters full.

Our dining table is fully covered in washed laundry that needs to be folded and taken upstairs. Paying one of my kids to do that today. Table has become a bit of a de facto cupboard as we all often go there first to find clean clothes.

In my house there are 2 adults and 1 11MO. I'm on mat leave at the moment. I do a load every other day, though I often forget on the weekend as we're busy doing other things. I don't have a tumble drier.

Currently one laundry bin is full and I need to do a towel load. Yesterday's washing is drying on 2 clothes horses. I'll fold and put that away tomorrow while tomorrow's washing is in. I tend to fold straight into a laundry basket so even if I don't get around to putting it away then it's contained!

First big purchase when I'm back at work is a tumble dryer!!

Honeysucklerouge · 29/02/2024 13:17

I’ve done towels and a white wash today and all the sheets are waiting in a heap on the floor .. dark wash was done yesterday . I do not iron anymore unless I do a shirt for a work meeting

DiscoBeat · 29/02/2024 13:18

I used to have it stacking up but have a good system now and only get big piles of it if we have multiple guests with all the bedding and towels.
Every morning I go round with a basket and empty the laundry bins, empty them into the sorted colour bins in the laundry room. Put a load on and fold into piles per person and put on their beds to put away when they get home. Hang out or put in dryer then repeat. I stagger the bulky stuff - 1st floor bedrooms on Tues, 2nd floor bedrooms on Wed. All towels on Tues and Fri. Guest towels and bedding on Sunday. I am a very disorganized person naturally so have to have a rigid system!

afaloren · 29/02/2024 13:19

A few towels that I will wash when we have a full load of them at the weekend. I do have a load in the dryer which I will put away when it’s finished.

Last year I let the laundry get totally out of control. I would wash it, dry it, then dump it on a chair instead of putting it away. The cats slept on it meaning it needed to be rewashed. I could never find anything. This year I said no more!! Even if I have to wash and put away every day I am not letting it build up!

Tetsuo · 29/02/2024 13:20

I don't wash my clothes much though.

It's all wool, silk, cotton, cashmere, linen, I spot clean and it gets ironed and put away. Ditto husband. The teens generate a basket of washing a week between them.

  • underwear.

Bedding, towels etc, once a week, I reckon three/four loads a week.

Put away immediately.

ArchetypalBusyMum · 29/02/2024 13:24

When the DC were tiny the laundry could get pretty bad, especially with the vomit comet reflux baby around, just keeping us fed and minimalist clean was a serious mission.

These days it's good, kids are older, there are only 4 of us. We live in a TINY house so simply can't get behind or we wouldn't be able to move.
I put 1 load on without fail every morning, been clothes towels and bedding once a day is perfect.

I get up, rouse the kids and while the kettle boils I put away yesterday's dry laundry, chuck the new laundry on and I'm done. That's it, that my system.

Mumof3girlsandaboy · 29/02/2024 13:26

Not much I started washing yesterday and I will finish everything today
tumble dry
fold
put away everything

Get yourself a heat recovery tumble dryer, they use MUCH less electricity because they recycle the warmth they create instead of expending it straight out during the process.

Theoldwoman · 29/02/2024 13:26

None. It’s nearly 9:30 pm here and I wash everyday completely finishing up what’s in the baskets before I come to bed.

Hate dirty stuff sitting around waiting to be washed.

Everything is washed in cold water, except linen, and line dried.

TheChosenTwo · 29/02/2024 13:27

Pretty much one load. I do a load every day, sometimes 2. Older dc other own,
they probably put a wash once every 4-5 days.

YoureTheOneBeepingTheHornOverACheeseBurger · 29/02/2024 13:28

1/2 a load in the laundry basket.
A pile of ironing I’m ignoring.
Probably several loads worth of washing on DS floor.

fishonabicycle · 29/02/2024 13:30

Less than a load in 2 baskets - a load on the airer in the airing cupboard which I will put away tonight(I tend to wash as soon as I have a load, as I can dry one load at a time in the airing cupboard. Any more than that and I have to use the tumble dryer, which I try to avoid.

LaWench · 29/02/2024 13:33

I do a load every other day, half empty laundry basket whilst yesterday's clean laundry is drying.

snoopyfanaccountant · 29/02/2024 13:33

I WFH on a Thursday so it's generally my laundry day. I have done a dark load and a white load so far. The washing used to get sorted into loads on the floor but it made the room very untidy and DD (20) suggested that a Kallax unit from Ikea might be the way to deal with it, so we now have that with Trofast boxes in it. The laundry is sorted into the labeled boxes and at present two are empty, three are partially full and one is full.
We have two clothes horses upstairs (one heated) and a dehumidifier - I don't remember when I last used the tumble drier - and when the clothes horses are cleared, the clothes are folded and left outside the owner's bedroom (everyone is responsible for their own ironing).

RagzRebooted · 29/02/2024 13:33

Half a basket of darks and half of synthetics. Did a whites wash yesterday. Usually do 2 or 3 loads (we have a 10kg machine) at the weekend and 1 in the week and DS1 does a half load on a Sunday.
Have a basket waiting to be put away.

Cherryon · 29/02/2024 13:33

2 white T-shirts because I don’t do a load unless it is a full load so need more whites.

Nothing else is dirty. Everything else is clean, dry and put away.

I do have one shirt hanging, clean and dry that still needs to be ironed, but I only turn on the iron when I have 4 things to iron to save energy. So that is waiting too.

I have never had a laundry pile up. I put a load on at 6am every morning and put it in the drier before leaving the house. I then do another load or two every evening.

Edited to add: 2 adults and 2 teen DC who both have sports kits! And DH has his gym wear too.

Minikievs · 29/02/2024 13:34

Fucking tonnes. Always. Ironing basket is full (although to be fair mostly full of stuff that we don't wear/need that I need to find a home for)
Basket is full (overflowing)
Only me and 2 DC but DS is the size of a man and his stuff takes up so much SPACE when drying. Especially big fluffy hoodies etc. Unless I tumble stuff, it all needs ironing. I suspect that's because I overload the washing machine in an attempt to reduce the wash basket.
It doesn't dry though on the maiden in the kitchen so takes 2 days. So I can only wash every two days else there's nowhere to put the wet washing.
I wish it would stop bloody RAINING

PrincessTeaSet · 29/02/2024 13:35

I do mine as soon as there's a full load. It takes 48 hours to dry in winter and I only have space to dry one load at once so we can't generate more than that. Usually do a load every 2-3 days. I don't wash clothes unless they are actually dirty, and don't wash the bedding or towels very often in winter as need to wait for a dry windy day when I'm off work. Currently waiting for spring to get all the bedding, towels and blankets freshly washed! 2 adults 2 kids.

PawsisShady · 29/02/2024 13:36

One load to wash, one on the drying rack
Live alone but struggle to get stuff dry - even with a heated airer and dehumidifier it takes a good 2 days

laclochette · 29/02/2024 13:37

I'm a bit obsessed with keeping the laundry baskets empty or near empty. I don't do tiny loads but as soon as I've got enough for a load, it goes on!

Eep. I wash all towels twice a week. Tea towels get washed after 2 days. Bedding once a week. How long do you go between washes?

Antelopevalleys · 29/02/2024 13:39

Loads!

DD is unwell and DH and I have been run off our feet trying to juggle working whilst looking after her in between meetings - our laundry basket is full, there are two large piles in the bathroom of clothes and our entire table in the dining room is covered in clean clothes waiting to go upstairs and be put away

ArrestHer · 29/02/2024 13:39

None. I do one wash a day, dry it same day, and then put away the same day. It was my new year new me routine, I try and change one thing to make my life better and this has been revolutionary.

ETA Bedding / towels etc are done in an additional wash as needed so they are on top of too.

Joulee · 29/02/2024 13:40

Separate issue we recently bought a new tumble dryer.

The new dryer creates the most intense wrinkling I have ever seen. I use the dryer in situations when I’m given a rugby kit the night before it’s needed. The clothes are coming out horrendously. Creating more work as the dry clothes now need a very decent iron.

What am I doing wrong?

My mum suggested not over cramming but that didn’t improve things

ArrestHer · 29/02/2024 13:41

Drying I don’t dry to bone dry. I iron up the setting below the driest setting. Then I shake and hang up and no creases.
