How much laundry do you have piled up?

I know I’m bad but curious if I’m average bad or bad bad.

Bathroom laundry bin is full and overflowing (30l). Both kids laundry bags are half full (25l). Mine and Dh’s laundry bin (30l) is three quarters full.

Our dining table is fully covered in washed laundry that needs to be folded and taken upstairs. Paying one of my kids to do that today. Table has become a bit of a de facto cupboard as we all often go there first to find clean clothes.

I don't have dryer so I have to stay on top of my laundry schedule! The basket is empty (2 adults 2 kids) but bedding and towels are due a wash!

Scrabblingaround · 29/02/2024 19:18

I have been hobbling for five days now after I tried to shift our clean laundry pile with my foot....

Dancingqueen2023 · 29/02/2024 20:02

One load of teddies in the machine, one load of them waiting to be washed. Half a basket of light and half a basket of dark. If dp had waited this morning instead of washing the half light that was already there it would have been a full light going in next. Ironing basket is a joke at the moment though and I feel like I should maybe pull my finger out there

Scirocco · 29/02/2024 20:13

I've a full laundry load of outdoor activity stuff that'll go in tomorrow morning, and probably a full load of ordinary clothes that'll go in on Saturday morning. Swimming stuff is drying after being washed today.

Life's too short to stress about laundry.

Kalevala · 29/02/2024 20:15

Just whatever there is since the weekend, almost a load. Weekend washing is put away.

Crooklodge · 29/02/2024 20:18

Got the two dc football kits from tonight otherwise the washing basket bag is going in the wash tomorrow. 6 of us in this house, washing needs done ALL the time or else it's carnage. Dh is brilliant at it....

BobbyBiscuits · 29/02/2024 20:19

I did a load of laundry the other day but it's only half hung up. My laundry bin is full plus 3 other bags full of dirty clothes.
Horrendous.
I did DH's laundry for the first time ever ( in 17 yrs) the other week though. Winning. lol.

Kitkat1523 · 29/02/2024 20:20

3 items in washing machine…..4 items waiting to be ironed ….that’s it…..me and partner aged late 50s

boozeclues · 29/02/2024 20:22

I dunno - it’s not my job in the house 😝

as long as I can find something clean to wear and a fresh pair of pants I am happy to never ever ever do a load of washing again!!!!!

ShinyBandana · 29/02/2024 20:28

We’ve had 3 consecutive weekends with visitors, so not just all the towels and bedding that entails but also not keeping on top of the clothes washing as we were entertaining. There’s 3 baskets full of clean clothes for sorting and putting away, 1 basket of socks waiting to be paired, 2 full laundry baskets that need to go down to wash room where there’s at least 6 loads already waiting to go through- so maybe 10 loads waiting to be washed.

Everyone will get involved this weekend to get it sorted but right now I am ignoring it and having a glass of wine 🍷

Cazs818 · 29/02/2024 20:32

Busy Family of 6 , zero atm all washed , dried and ironed and out away , tomorrow is bedding day 🤪 7 beds & sleep wear …. I’ll hopefully have all that done by lunch time so I can take the kiddies out to burn of some energy

MyLastRoloIsMine · 29/02/2024 20:36

None.
I do a load daily, put it straight in the dryer then take it out, fold it and put it way when it's stopped.

QuestionableMouse · 29/02/2024 20:37

None! Just have a few bits drying and will put them away tomorrow.

BigBoysDontCry · 29/02/2024 20:47

At the moment with just 3 adults in the house, it's basically just got about a day's worth of stuff. H has a basket full of of ironing to do and I did a wool wash with all my jumpers ready to pack them away so they are on the airer.

However, when DC were young, we were both working full time out the house and DC had things on most evenings along with school uniforms, swimming kit, judo kit etc etc it was never so up to date. Everyone had clean stuff when they needed so that's all that matters, sometimes it was a case of ironing it as we were heading out the door 😂

But we all survived and you will too OP. Spring is on the way, you'll be able to get it cleared as it's easier to get it all dried in the warmer weather.

Tetchypants · 29/02/2024 20:52

None. We have a smallish laundry basket for the whole family, and I put a wash on when it’s nearly full, towels and bedding are done as and when. There is never washing piled up anywhere and I genuinely don’t understand how people spend hours sorting it out!

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 29/02/2024 20:58

I'm a bit obsessive about not letting it pile up, 2 loads are probably dry and ready to be sorted and put away, another will be getting put on tomorrow.

I've got to a good place with it though, we've got enough airers for 2 full loads and once those are dry it gets sorted into a basket for each person, put away when I can, 2 adults and 2 young kids, I refuse to iron anything!

Jellycatspyjamas · 29/02/2024 21:27

I have one load in the machine just now and that’s it, everything else is dried and put away. If you’d asked this time last week though I had two overflowing baskets to be washed and piles on the table, sofa and in my bedroom to be sorted, folded and put away. I was sick last week and laundry was just too much.

JMSA · 29/02/2024 22:01

Dirty laundry under control but I absolutely cannot face putting it all away. It's the worst chore, in my opinion.

rightoguvnor · 29/02/2024 22:08

Only what has been worn today.
In the ironing basket only what was worn yesterday and washed this morning.
I do one wash a day at 40, if there are whites I'll add some Vanish.
Towels and bedding are only done at weekends.

BrokenWing · 29/02/2024 22:22

We have 3 laundry baskets - mine, dh, and ds. I have no idea what is in dh and ds's(since he was about 13)

Mine is about 1/3 full. I have clothes on my airer from the weekend wash that will probably stay there until my or ds's next wash. ds's will take my clothes off the airer and put on my bed if he needs the airer for his wash and I'll stick in drawers before I go to bed. dh has his own airer. We don't generally have washing piles, but airers are usually partially full and we sometimes get clean clothes directly from them.

We don't mind having an airer up most of the time in winter in either the corner of our bedroom or over the bath. We also have an airer hanging over the stairwell that dries really quickly as the heat rises up. We don't really have anywhere where there is room from piles of clothes.

JaceLancs · 29/02/2024 22:26

Not enough to put a wash on!
I will probably have enough by end of next week to do a white/light load and a dark load
DS does his own - I do need to hand wash some jumpers though

stargazer02 · 29/02/2024 22:30

I have boxes (1 for colours/whites, 1 for dark ) that when full of regular clothes, is the same volume as my machine. Once they are full, I wash the contents. Heat pump drier so not too expensive or energy intensive to run, so I put what I can in it and rest on airer or on hangers on a rail upstairs in a warm spot and dehumidifier running. Always dry by next morning. I don't iron.
Bedding washed, dried and back on same day.

Kids fold and put away own clothes and put the fitted sheet and pillowcases back on their own beds. I do duvet cover with them as it's too big for them to manage.

Thelnebriati · 29/02/2024 22:48

None! The laundry is the only thing I manage to stay on top of. We don't have enough clothes to fall behind too far, which helps.

Kerantli · 29/02/2024 23:00

In January, 3 to 4 years worth of non-essentials
Now, about 4 large black binbags, and 2 white bin bags.

having limited access to a washing machine (be it via an expensive laundrette, or begging a mate down the road, or my mum), to having been able to finally find the funds for a portable twin tub, I've been washing many loads once a week (now only limited by space in flat, on airers, and having a shared back garden with 7 other flats that we can't fully trust), would do it more often, but as the airers are in the living room, we like to have a couple of days without walking into them.

Peekaboobo · 29/02/2024 13:10

None. I follow "A Slob Comes Clean" advice and do all the laundry on one day - yep one day, not a load a day that seems popular with most people.

It's a game changer getting it all done in one day and having 6 days where I don't worry about it.

Go have a look at her website for inspiration she's got other good ideas too.

I've never heard of that but I do washing on Saturdays, that's it, family of four and about 4-5 loads in one day.
