How much laundry do you have piled up?

I know I’m bad but curious if I’m average bad or bad bad.

Bathroom laundry bin is full and overflowing (30l). Both kids laundry bags are half full (25l). Mine and Dh’s laundry bin (30l) is three quarters full.

Our dining table is fully covered in washed laundry that needs to be folded and taken upstairs. Paying one of my kids to do that today. Table has become a bit of a de facto cupboard as we all often go there first to find clean clothes.

Family of 5 and we have one laundry bin which is half full that said 3 beds need changing this weekend so there will be more...

Saladcreamdreams · 29/02/2024 23:12

White sheets in washer needing to be dried
Half a laundry basket of dirty laundry to do and about 18 months worth of clean washing to be put away

Zamazenta · 29/02/2024 23:12

I have towels, bedding and darks each drying on a clothes horse that were washed yesterday

Another wash in the machine ready to go and dc clothes to wash tomorrow after school (dc had 2 wet bed accidents this week so it has piled up a bit)

Also a huge laundry bag of clean clothes to be ironed

DiscoBeat · 29/02/2024 23:23

The only things I iron are formal shirts and trousers, tablecloths and napkins. The occasional linen dress etc. Just one small basket a week.

Creatureofhabit87 · 29/02/2024 23:26

Why is it downstairs?
We have one laundry bin that is 3/4 full.
We have two clothes horses in spare room that are full and damp.
We have one laundry basket of clean clothes that needs cleaning putting away

ColourMeBlue · 29/02/2024 23:41

FizzyWizzyBubbles · 29/02/2024 23:42

I can't stand a full basket. I wash daily to avoid this ever happening. However I enjoy doing laundry so suits me.

However i do have a small basket of ironing maybe 15 items , which I'll do Saturday when rest of School uniform is washed. And need to empty tumble as that's just finished and I've gone to bed

Goneback2school · 29/02/2024 23:47

One wash on the airer to dry. Basket 3/4 full. Previous couple of loads folded and left in kids rooms to be packed away tomorrow.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 01/03/2024 00:07

I wash .oat day, fools from the drier or line and put away. I can't stand washing hanging around .

Diamondcurtains · 01/03/2024 00:10

Washing is up together but I do have a big basket of ironing to do. I tend to leave a fair amount though as if I do it all there’s no room in the drawers and wardrobes.

NewName24 · 01/03/2024 00:23

I have a couple of days worth of pants and socks, waiting until there is more washing there, to form a full load.
On most MN threads, I am on the slatternly end of housework, but I can't understand firstly how people have so much washing, and secondly why they let it pile up. I mean, putting a wash in is one of the least labour intensive jobs that need to be done around the house.

Sgtmajormummy · 01/03/2024 00:24

Half a basket of darks waiting for more to arrive.
Two damp loads on the pulley maid, two dry on the airer (DC1 brings it every fortnight so I keep those separate) and one waiting to be put away.

I don’t iron.

I'm good at washing- it's the putting away! There's often a pile waiting to be put away.

I’m exactly the same I absolutely hate folding clothes and putting them away.

We have ended up with our most worn clothes ending up in the clean laundry basket but that pile is ever increasing if we wear something out of the usual laundry rotation.

At least it’s all in a neat wicker basket and getting washed and dried and not in overflowing hampers or taking over the rest of the house. Its easy to find in a basket as well rather then rooting in a wardrobe or drawers.
What is it about men that means they are unable to find something despite being given detailed instructions?! I used to have to find my partners clothes in the wardrobe and give them to him despite them being on “his side”. At least he can (mostly) find them in the basket.

@NewName24 all I can say I’m doing a load a day and drying it on a heated dryer but there’s always still more 🫠

Small house and working full time, so not space or time to do more than one wash most days. In the summer drying is faster but it’s rained every day but one this week so hanging washing out would be pointless

It’s stuff like the kids have accidents at school or nursery, so that’s two changes of clothes for them a day. One has special needs so still regularly doing that even at age 7. Or one will come home occasionally and throw up in their bed because they’ve caught some virus.

I try to change all our bedding once a week which is two loads just in itself. Then hand towels are changed daily. Winter coats are bulky and they get them really muddy and they need washing occasionally. It all just adds up.

WhoaJayShettybambalam · 01/03/2024 05:58

Only yesterday’s gym clothes and towel to be washed but a pile to be put away this weekend.
I’m having a declutter of my wardrobe at the weekend so haven’t put things away as I wash like I normally would.

Ginandjuice57884 · 01/03/2024 06:05

I don't let mine pile up these days. It's a gateway drug to chaos. Easier to just keep on top of it.

Oblomov24 · 01/03/2024 06:08

I put a wash on as soon as there enough. I probably do a load every 2-3 days.

Desecratedcoconut · 01/03/2024 06:14

I do a load a night, hang out on a clothes horse in the morning after I've folded the clothes from the day before. So there's rarely a backlog - just when we come back from holiday.

Tiddlywinks63 · 01/03/2024 06:19

Only the clothes I wore yesterday are in the laundry bin, I hate having laundry hanging around, it’s washed, dried and put away.

greenacrylicpaint · 01/03/2024 06:21

3 bins, one light one dark one underwear&socks
wash is put on when bin is full
each one folds their own clothes.
whoever puts a wash on hangs it up or asks another family member if that's not possible.

lifebeginsaftercoffee · 01/03/2024 06:22

About a quarter of a baskets' worth that's not enough for a full load yet.

spidermonkeys · 01/03/2024 06:32

None. I do a wash or 2 every day.
I find you have to put it away straight away, that's the bit that can build up quickly

muddyford · 01/03/2024 06:35

Only damp stuff draped around almost dry and some towels that may get hung out when it gets light.

OnGoldenPond · 01/03/2024 14:32

I used to have enormous mountains when there were 4 at home, but now DD has moved out there is hardly any! She used to change outfits twice a day plus went to the gym every day Shock

Now I worry that DS seems to put very few pants in to wash and he must be either wearing the same pair for days on end or going commando! Envy
