To call my baby Joan?

What do you think?

I’m 5 months pregnant and having a girl.
Ive just watched “maid of Orleans” video by orchestral manoeuvres in the dark and had a brainwave. Joan as in Joan of Arc.

Classic, moving story/heroine, devout catholic. The name Joan has suddenly taken on new meaning for me!

Joan of Arc was also always my favourite bit in Bill & Teds excellent adventure ❤️

Or am I just suffering from baby brain? Is it awful?

Love it

PinkiOcelot · 15/02/2024 21:42

Bloody awful.

ChuckGarabedian · 15/02/2024 21:43

I like it!

MaybeImbad · 15/02/2024 21:43

Love it. It’s my dream name if I had a girl.

ladygindiva · 15/02/2024 21:43

Why not? Joanie is cute. And if Joan is a little " old lady" ish that's highly trendy at the mo, and you can use Jo, JoJo, Joanie, Joey etc as nicknames. I really like it!

Allican · 15/02/2024 21:43

I love it and think it’s probably coming back. Joanie is really cute too.

TeaKitten · 15/02/2024 21:44

Awful. How old are you?

Beahappy82 · 15/02/2024 21:44

It would definitely be unusual for a baby now which is nice. I work in a care home and we have a few Joan's of 70-90 years. Joan and Pam(pamela) most popular names.

Porageeater · 15/02/2024 21:45

I like it. It’s classic and strong.

Beryls · 15/02/2024 21:45

I mean it is of course completely up to you but... baby Joan? What about Joni?

Or Joanathan...just putting the ideas out

Sparklesocks · 15/02/2024 21:45

I like it. Someone I work with has a Joni after Joni Mitchell.

But it shouldn’t matter what others think. There will always be people who hate your choice no matter what you pick. So choose the name you want.

FaiIureToLunch · 15/02/2024 21:45

Is it honestly the best you can come up with?

that’s all you have to think about.

ChimneyPot · 15/02/2024 21:45

I saw Joan on a list of names most likely to make a come back.

it is lovely

SkaneTos · 15/02/2024 21:46

Joan is a beautiful name!

NoMoreFalafelsForYou · 15/02/2024 21:46

Not a name I'd personally choose, but if you like it go for it!
It's a good, solid name.

judgedreadful · 15/02/2024 21:46

Poor child would get picked on.

vodkaredbullgirl · 15/02/2024 21:47

Call her what you want, don't need to ask MN permission.

I prefer Joanie. Not really keen on Joan or Joanie the. Joanna us slight better. Uo to you in the end tho, your choice.

Prizefighter · 15/02/2024 21:48

Adorable. She’ll be the only Joan but everyone will be able to spell it.

handfulofsugar · 15/02/2024 21:48

Moanie Joanie... I want to like Joan but I just can't

HolidayPrepIsStressful · 15/02/2024 21:49

I think its awful sorry. But it's your baby your choice.

Dd has a friend called Edna, She gets teased all the time for being a granny.
To me joan would cause a similar issue

BlackeyedSusan · 15/02/2024 21:49

Honestly, not keen. I'm in my fifties though so new fashionable names remind me of old ladies I used to know.

However, it's your baby and your choice. Names sound better in different accents. (Sadly mine only sounds good with an American accent.. (one of the American accents)

NoMoreFalafelsForYou · 15/02/2024 21:49

Poor child would get picked on

Why? There's loads of old fashioned names popular now.
Arthur, Stan (makes me think of On The Buses personally but each to their own, that's just me lol)
Mabel, Nancy etc (love Nancy)

salamithumbs · 15/02/2024 21:50

It sounds dreary to me, not sure why as I like Jane and Joanna! Maybe because it rhymes with moan...

IsThePopeCatholic · 15/02/2024 21:50

Awful.
